Maybe try Frankie Mac as well. He used to get to a few games but hasn't commented on this thread for a while. Last I heard, he lived in one of the apartments at Highbury so wouldn't be hard to meet up.

I think  he is a West Ham supporter.

Yeah he is but i think he's gone to a number of Arsenal games tbf.

Three for me, and two for them.

with a pinch of salt, more rumours today of Xhaka and Bender heading to the emirates. I can only really see either them coming in if Santi is heading out at the end of the season. which would be a big shame, and also doubtful as Wenger is very loyal.

Doubt we'll be spending the money for them but wouldn't mind Bender. Sales for shirts with Bender on the back wouldn't be very high in England I wouldn't have thought. Imagine the abuse at away grounds too.

It's Lars Bender right? Surely you'd just get L Bend with the #7

Here's our current midfield stock:

Ramsey, Ozil, Wilshere, Arteta, Flamini, Elneny, Rosicky, Toral, Zelalem, Coquellin, Bielek, The Ox, Cazorla

Surely Arteta, Flamini, and Rosicky are gone end of this season.

Of the youngsters Toral, Zelalem, and Bielek I'm unsure if any of them are ready for a perm role.

Leaving you with Ramsey, Ozil, Wilshere, Elneny, Coquellin, The Ox, Cazorla.

For me I think we still need one more, and they need to be a solid big name signing, given we don't have that midfield consistently available.

Thoughts?

I don't think we need any more numbers at all really, only players who could improve upon what we already have.

7 players for 3 starting spots is fine, especially when you have Campbell and Chambers who can also fill two of those spots if needed in an injury crisis.

I think our squad is pretty great even when 3/4 fit ; perhaps we could do with one more striker.

The fact that we still pick up points without Coquelin, without Sanchez, without Ozil - that speaks to the strength of this squad. Previously if a Van Persie or Cesc was injured we may as well just not turn up.

Of course we won't win every game - the league is, all round, very strong except for the top teams - but I haven't been this confident in a squad of ours for a long time.

Fudge me. Was expecting to be disappointed by a football match today , wasn't meant to be Arsenal tho!!!
Costa is the most greasy , smug cod going around man ,grinds my gears big time

Do we bring on Alexis now and try to get something but risk him?

Still time tho and we haven't looked to bad going forward even without Giroud

Permalink Permalink
about 10 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Well that was a giant pile of stinking horse crap.

1) I'm unsure if Giroud was the right call, he was honestly so fired up with great movement. Walcott offered FA up front, and I'm wondering if Wenger was too sentimental about him keeping him on. Campbell at least was tracking back.

2) You know your midfield isn't working with Flamini is the man getting into the box as the striker

3) Our midfield was up to FA as well, Ramsey & Ozil kept running into spaces away from the box while spraying loose passes all over the show

4) Sanchez was a touch lively but still a wee way to go

5) Costa is a c*nt, but if Giroud was in the same position I would have expected him to dive & for the defender to be sent. It doesn't make it right/just/not a c*nty thing to do but that is modern football and it won't change without real time replays.

6) We should have salvaged a point there, Chelsea sat back and were also up to FA on attack against 10 men

7) Koscielny was woefully out of position in the Costa goal. Monreal may have impeded his sight as he rushed out to the cross but he shouldn't let a striker get in front of him at the near post, especially one that isn't quick.

8) Campbell should be starting ahead of Walcott for me, such is his form, defensive work, and his tracking back.

9) I can't believe how much Chelsea mind f*ck us each season

10) I really hope people don't talk about Arsenal 'blowing' the title when it's Leicester that deserve the praise for their season. If we're to miss out on the title this year Leicester doing it would make it a touch more bearable.

11) February is going to be a c*nt of a month for us:

2nd Southampton (H)

7th Bournemath (A)

14th Leicester (H)

20th FA Cup 5th Round - TBC

23rd Barcelona (H)

28th United (A)

12) I wrote this on my laptop while taking a massive dump.

Happy Monday chaps.

Same old same against them. Haven't even scored against them in the league for 6 games now, never mind got a result. Really had to hold on against Liverpool given we never win away at Stoke and always lose to Chelsea.

Frustrating morning, similar to the first game in that with a man down we never looked like getting anything. Having Walcott as captain was an absolute embarrassment on the club and shows exactly why we bottle it.

Typical Arsenal v Chelsea game - I would be annoyed if it wasn't all so predictable.

We really need to shake this feeling of being hard done by all the time. Just get on with the f*cking game and stop waving our hands about like we've been wronged.

That was really dumb by Per too. What did he think was going to happen? He was never, ever going to make that tackle. Just let him through on goal - we've got Cech ffs, quite possible he would've stopped that. If he doesn't stop it, then at least we still have 11 men.

Real dumb. Those things cost titles.

Chelsea summed up in one video. Though there's a few made-up stories that it was from today - it was the 2012 champions league final

Rumours that Coquelin and Rosicky could both be available this weekend. Huge news really, Coquelin in particular.

Wilshere and Welbeck also back in training now.

Jenkinson done his ACL and out for 9 months. You can take the boy out of Arsenal...etc. Means we'll have to keep Debuchy now I guess.

Permalink Permalink
about 10 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

With Coquelin back from injury and Elneny signed, I wouldn't be surprised if we let him go anyway, with Chambers given the job of 2nd choice RB.

Debuchy's being a bit of a baby about the whole thing as opposed to Gibbs, who is handling it like a champ.

Gibbs has at least been getting some game time though

Yea I did think that too, but at the same time, that game time could easily have gone to Debuchy. There have been one or two games recently where Bellerin has played even though Monreal has been rested for Gibbs on the other side. That says to me that Debuchy's attitude and effort in training is not as high as Gibbs. Also Gibbs has regularly played a few minutes at the end of games in an advanced role when we needed to maintain a lead - Debuchy easily has the pace and skills to do the same thing, in fact I'd even say we'd be stronger using him in that role to protect Bellerin's side, yet Wenger has never done that. Again that says to me that out of our four fullbacks, Debuchy is dead last in the pecking order, and Wenger doesn't necessarily trust him.

Monreal had a very similar situation not long after he arrived, yet he has turned that around massively, and now it's Gibbs who is the one on the outer and battling - but he's still training hard, taking chances as best he can, and rightly getting praise for it. Debuchy seems to have thrown his hands up and just started whinging in the media which is disappointing.

Permalink Permalink
about 10 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Debuchy's issue based on what we see in the media is that all he's focused on is Debuchy going to the World Cup. Not Arsenal winning the Premier League. And if that's accurate then no wonder AW is letting him stew. I bet he can't wait to get to Newcastle.

good news coming out of the Emirates. Le Coq is back and in contention to play this weekend.

im not sure how much time he will get on the weekend. but it would be good to give him a run. Also Rosicky is back to full health.

other changes for burnley, im assuming Gabriel is coming in for Per. We dont lose much there.

anyone else coming in or dropping out?

and transfer fairy land, we are now linked with Isco (along with ManC, PSG, Bayern and most of china).

Some talk about us agreeing a fee to bring in Yarmolenko, but not until the summer.

I'm guessing we'll be in the market at the end of the season for a couple of players considering Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky are all likely to either leave or retire.

Elneny and Chambers might be seen as sufficient along with Coquelin for defensive midfield, but I think we are due a forward/attacking mid with Rosicky leaving, and the Ox seemingly being groomed for a permanent move into midfield.

Wilshere's not far off being pretty much done as a top level pro like Diaby IMO. Only so many seasons you can keep missing 90+% of.
