Sounds like mustafi has done something fairly serious, pulled up with a thigh problem with no one around him, in a lot of pain, in the first half of Germany's game this morn.

And to compound things it doesn't sound like Koscielny's achilles injury is settling down either. Could find ourselves with Holding, Per, Monreal re-united again.

yea and it would be for more than a one off game. it could be for quite some time...kola can play on the left side of a 3 as well...

And immediately our lack of depth a wing back is exposed. Maybe Walcott can make the conversion hahahahahahahahaha

Koscielny and Chambers have niggles but I would expect both back fairly soon. In the meantime, perhaps for this weekend;

                    Cech

 Holding-Mertesacker-Monreal

Bellerin-Xhaka-Ramsey-Kolasinac

              Ozil-Sanchez

                 Lacazette

If Ozil is still not ready I would throw Wilshere in, but realistically Wenger would probably put Elneny in midfield and move Ramsey forward.

Well Ramsey did play today (gutted for the lad) so with Wilshire fresh and firing maybe nows the time to bring him in if Ozil is out. Wouldn't be surprised if the nod also went to Iwobi after his heroics. It's funny, we're short at CB due to injuries and have no depth through WB, but we have a variety of combinations through the middle and up front.

Sanchez and Chile moments away from miss out on qualification. The irony that he finally gets a summer off and he'll be signing elsewhere.

Edit: updated.

Yeah came to post that. First summer rest in 5 years the summer he leaves.

Chambers has signed a contract extension. Between him, Holding, and (if he keep him) Mustafi we look OK. Maybe one more senior next summer when Per goes but should be OK when Kosc hangs up his boots.

3-4 more years in the Premier League, talks are progressing with Arsenal to enable that.

Putting my doom and gloom hat on I'd say they're confirming Ozil's intent to stay in the EPL but not gauranteeing it'll be Arsenal. Given we won't sell to a rival he's in a strong negotiating position.

Edit: actual quote

"Even so, he wants to play in Premier League for at least 2-3 years more. Our contacts with Arsenal continue and we are going in a positive direction." - Erkut Sogut

Mustafi should've been the one sold, not Gabriel imo. Don't rate him at all.

I liked gabriel and thought he suited the right sided CB role. Was surprised and a bit gutted when he was sold.

Reading a few bits about the injuries and sounding positive. Not all from respectable sources but apparently koscielny and kolasinac will both be available this week, welbeck and coquelin are next to ready, and mustafi is only out for 3 weeks... hope it's all true

Haha Arseblog had Kosc at a last minute test, Kolasnic yet to be assesed, Mustafi 4-6 weeks/after next window, but Welbeck & Ozil back for the game. Reading the comments Wenger didn't update on Le Coq but he's been spotted at training since Monday:

Cracking piece from Tim Stillman on the 'Sanchez/Ozil' era. He's beautifully highlighted that Ozil isn't a building block of a team, but rather than finishing piece. You build structure and stability around him so he can ghost around and drift between that stability. I do wonder if we need to revert to a 4-3-2-1 formation to get the best out of Ozil/Sanchez/Lacazette. Where we let our fullbacks cover the wider areas, and Laza/Ozil/Sanchez drift around up from with the solidity of a Wilshire/Ramsey/Xhaka behind them (maybe tag in Coquellin for more defensive bite).

Could be glorious.

Troy Deeney is f*cking annoying. Made it even worse losing to them like that.

Same old story, though - the one time I was glad I accidentally saw the result before watching the game..

Bloody Bein, we only get 1 game on demand in October - WTF? Anyway only caught the first half via dodgy sites before I gave up. Ultimately that penalty was absolute BS - but per all your comments it's the same sh*t different week. Surprised JW10 didn't get the nod over Elneny or Iwobi, would have given us a lot more drive and creativity up front.

You guys remember that french RB we purchased from Newcastle after Sagna left only for Bellerin to surpass him after back to back injuries gave Bellerin time to show, the one who then left to Marseille to make the Euro's squad only to get injured again, yeah you know the one who then tried to leave for United but Wenger said no. You know the one eh? Yeah apparently he's still on contract AND he's fit again - Wenger's indicated he's starting tomorrow. What a time to be alive 'eh?

Not surprising. We have no other full back cover on either side so he is it. One right back and two left backs, one of which is a starting centre back. This won't be the last of Debuchy this season.

I know its our only route back to UCL football (realistically), but i just cant get excited about the europa league ay. I... just.. cant.

Anyone got any tips for how to make this be more engaging?

separate note - Geez, just checked out Everton's form in europa. It is horrid. those poor fans...

Think of it as a refreshing change of story. We've had 7 years of R16 knock outs, often against Bayern or Barca. At least this time round we get to play different teams, there are lower expectations, and we can see more squad rotation. Personally, I'm stoked we'll see more of our youngsters playing - always enjoy seeing the prospects given a crack.

Yeah I'm liking the opportunity to play some different opposition so far, however it's inevitable we'll end up with Dortmund in the first knockout round.

Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and even Napoli on course to fall into the Europa League. Its a bit of a farce (quality wise) until the later stages, because there are too many teams in the competition. But get excited about it - its still European football and there are good teams in there. And there is a pretty good prize at the end.

What odds on 2 consecutive Puskas nominations for Giroud???

I knew there was a reason I got Giroud 12 printed on my new blue away shirt.....actually, it was to commemorate his 100 goals for Arsenal as he was wearing that shirt when he achieved it.

It's a refreshing change of pace, and we have a decent chance at a proper run in this, unlike our last 7 efforts in the CL.

Besides, we aren't doing anything of note in the league this year so you may as well get excited about this.

Three for me, and two for them.
