You reckon? City and Liverpool have a clear run in now, surely it's theirs to lose at this point.

No doubt. But I'd be very surprised if they both won all four of their remaining games, neither side are in any sort of decent form, much like us.

The problem is, I can't see us winning our last 5 games anyway. We've got lots of tough ones - ManU (Wenger has still never beaten Mourinho in a league game, although this could be his best chance with Bailly and Shaw now injured as well), Soton (a noted bogey team for us), Stoke away (the king of all our bogey fixtures), and Everton at home, another tough one for us.

Just can't see it unfortunately.

Will be interesting to experience the Europa League for the first time next season!

That went about as expected. Once they got the 2nd it looked we’d fall apart again and they could get 5, and only really thanks to Cech that they didn’t. And it was largely thanks to him and a couple of open goal misses that they weren’t already out of sight at half time. Been a few years now they’ve been saying they are better than us all over the park, and sadly it’s finally come true. League is done is as far I’m concerned, only really care about the Cup final now. Finishing above us could even be a bit bittersweet for Spurs if they end up winning nothing and we win the FA Cup.

Still the first time in 21 years or whatever it is, so the calls that it’s the beginning of a 20 year domination are possibly a bit premature.

To be fair to them, most Spurs fans I know (not many) are hardly gloating. It's more the end of a long struggle for them.

As good as they have been to watch, they're currently on track to match our league finish from last season, and that's it. Until they win something (10 years plus without a trophy) they have little to celebrate other than bragging rights in the local rivalry.

There was a big banner they kept showing too. It was another mauling of the type we're now accustomed to in big games, this time masked by a stunning performance from our keeper. Could easily have been 5 or 6.

That chant has been going on for weeks at every ground we've visited.

Ironically coming from the Spurs fans it's the funniest.

I appreciated this comment from the Arseblog comments section:

"Any player that wants to leave can fudge right off.

Let’s get a new man in, some new players and start afresh.
We survived the squillaci, Denilson era.
We’ll get through this too."

I just realised today that in 2002 when it was Arsenal v Chelsea in the FA Cup Final, we were going for the Double. This year the same two teams in the final but it will be Chelsea going for the Double.

Don't worry it's only Ray Parlour on the ball...

Interesting rumours about.

Talk of Bayern offering 55m for Sanchez. That's big for a player with only one year left on his contract. If he wants to leave then I'd take that in a heartbeat - send him abroad rather than to City/Chelsea and get decent coin in the process.

On a more positive note, rumours about that we are willing to pay the 85m Monaco want for Mbappe.

Crazy money but that's the football world these days. Would be an exciting one for the fans and a statement of power from the board. God knows our club could do with a lift in those two areas.

Apparently working in our favour is him supposedly already turning down ManU due to concerns over the style of football, and he's also looking for first team guarantees, which Madrid aren't willing to offer. Young to get that kind of guarantee, but his quality speaks for itself and there's probably a spot there.

I just don't believe we've even considered an offer for Mbappe. Even though he has taken the opportunity to have a sly dig the rumours just reek of agents angling for more money from someone else.

good win. I don't think we were pushed that hard by them, and on another day it could have been much more. Nice to see Welbeck get a goal and continue his record against his old club.

Holding did ok, but he was challenging his inner gabriel a few times there.

Has anyone seen the footage of Le Coq trying to block rooneys shot? flipping hilarious. Very committed, but not style points.

That was awesome. Don’t think I’ve celebrated a goal as much as the 2nd since probably Welbeck’s last big one. Forgotten what going to work with the throat feeling hoarse from a good scream felt like! For me probably the only better feeling in football than beating United is beating the vermin who currently manages them so to do them both at the same time feels pretty special. As much as so many of us want him gone, you wouldn’t be human if you don’t feel an immense amount of joy for Wenger finally beating him.

Some good performances all around, Ramsey especially produced something we haven’t seen from him in a long time. The formation seems to allow him a bit more freedom to make the sort of runs he excels at. Ox is obviously the other big winner from the formation change as he seems to be thriving in the RWB role. Been tried in so many different roles so perhaps we’ve finally found his long term one? Quite like Monreal in the left centre back role too. He hasn’t quite got the legs for the LWB sort of role anymore, but is defensively solid enough that this could be a good position for him.

"Arsenal were not better than us. They score they win, congratulations (dripping with sarcasm)."

Mourinho is such a cod.

I thought holding was quite good, dodgy back pass aside. He dribbled or dinked his way past Rooney a number of times, and I recall one moment not long after the dodgy back pass he volleyed a pass from the sideline on his weaker left foot perfectly into Cech with enough steam to not be caught out. It takes confidence to try that after an almost catastrophic disaster!

He certainly has confidence, and quality, on the ball. A joy to watch sometimes.

Loved that skip past Aguero in the FA Cup semi.

Impressive that after the poor backpass he was the one who headed the ball away from the resulting corner. Said it after the City game but looks a great defensive talent for the price compared to someone like Stones. It was also him who won the ball back to send Ox down the sideline for the cross for the goal.

I'm not sure if there's much to be excited about for you guys - three players returning from injury who haven't even had minutes of the bench, a debutant, no out and out striker to begin with and Wayne Rooney who may as well be replaced with a road-cone. But I suppose it is traditional for Arsenal to celebrate mediocrity.

All we need now is 5 wins on the trot, City to drop 4 points, and United to lose the Europa final and the season will be saved!

Easy.

I am not sure either team should be celebrating today. Both teams were poor, for much the same reasons - the players out there are just not good enough on a consistent basis. For United, most have played a lot of games recently and key injuries have restricted rotation and rest. But at the same time, if they played today, they have been deemed to not be as good as those who will be playing in the semi final.

Other points from the game -

1. United has not scored an away goal against the other top 6 teams this season (Spurs to come), so have had two losses and two draws. United used to know they can win every game, no excuses. Mentality needs to improve to get higher on the table.

2. United played deep (almost 6 at the back) against the 3-4-3. It didn't work against Chelsea the first time and it didn't work this time. But playing a 3-5-2 vs Chelsea the second time worked? Why the change?

3. Why did United let Welbeck go? He is at that perfect age between Rashford and Zlatan/Rooney, he has loads of energy, he can play wide if need be, and he is a youth team product. And he is pretty good, when not injured. Another LvG mistake - putting his faith in Falcao over him. Ugh.

4. Why do Ozil and Sanchez (seem to) sulk and go missing when there is no longer anything to play for? They just don't seem to have that energy and desire you see in those top class players, whatever the game. For Sanchez to be outshone by Tuanzebe in his first league start is crazy (the kid looks good).

On a final note, the only difference between the teams at the moment is that United have improved their style of play from previous years and that has given the fans the sense of belief that there is more to come. Arsenal have played the same way, with the same type of players with the same type of results for a number of years now, and the fans don't have any sort of belief that there is more two come. If that is what the club is content with, then that's great. Ultimately, both teams are relying upon cup success to turn a mediocre season into a reasonably good one.
