I havent seen it yet,

I am with you harry, an away draw at Bremen is a good start.

Gers will be happy as well..sounds like poor old Wayne is feeling the pressure too!!
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
That was an alright result for you lads, especially given Inter and Twente drew aswell.

Three for me, and two for them.

over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah, certainly would have taken that before the game, so all in all a decent result. As Harry said, shame we couldn't hold on to the lead up till h/t, but there we go - hopefully we will learn!

What happened to VDV??
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
wouldnt have taken the draw when you had a 2 goal lead though?

Quite right, you should be able to hold out and win from 2-0 up. Or take more of the chances that we made, to kill off the game. With Inter & Twente drawing too though, it's a good result...

You should indeed, but that's been the story of Spurs all my life...it'll take a few more games at CL level beore we learn how to shut up shop...

1 nil down to Wolves looked to be all over, in comes forgotten man Hutton. Great run for penalty and what a cool penalty from VDV.

Not sure why Harry running with Keane, would prefer to see VDV in that slot and Lennon back in the side.

Very pleased with an uncomfortable 3-1 victory if there is such a thing!

Equally baffled. Keane is so off his game it's not funny. Maybe it is a mind games thing on the part of 'Arry. I'm sure against a bigger club Lennon would be brought back in. Nice to see Jenas stepping up to the mark in the absence of Modric.

I'm still not sure of Hutton's defensive capabilities... and as Lennon starts to lose his pace (which, fortunately, is still a few year's off), he's going to need to upskill other parts of his game, but his crossing sure has got better this past 12 months.

I'd actually favour Jenas over Palacios.
Gallas has been a solid buy, making up for a properly injued defensive line.
Bale still immense!
And Van der Vaart has looked really good. He will create goals, no doubt about it. Just needs more ptch time to blend in and avoid some of the "oops didn;t realise you were passing it there" moments.

Agree that Jenas currently a better option than Palacios. It's almost as if Palacios has done 'Arry's wish to steady the ship, and now will really have to fight to get back in the team given that all the MF are quality passers of the ball. I'm sure there will be some games when some extra muscle is required and WP gets the nod though.

Still, he'll get a game against the All Whites next month!HarryHotspur2010-09-21 00:34:25

A reshuffled side to start tomorrow - resting a lot of key players but Sandro and the new goalie Pletikosa get a look in:

Nice one UG, I'll do my best to see our second string versus your U12s. I only have happy memories of the BB and N London derbies (where has Denny Rose been loaned by the way?!)HarryHotspur2010-09-21 15:59:08

You gotta luv our 'Arry - ee's avin' a larf!

'Redknapp denies that by playing youngsters and reserves he is disrespecting the tournament. "If we weren't in Europe, I would have a real go to win the Carling Cup,'' he explained.'

Probably the blessing in disguise, Carling Cup would have only been a pain in the ass. Now we can focus purely on Champions League and Premier League.

Hutton was injured when he first came, but then when he first played he was immense. I always knew he had it in him and would rather have him at right back instead of Corluka or Kaboul. Corluka is on bad form atm and Kaboul is a bit unpredictable.

Assou Ekotto clearance to set up Hugo Almeida goal against Werder was frustrating. Every now and again he has those brain explosions

Funny video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAGs6l5TmjE about Gallas being Spurs captain.
It is the sequel to this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLHDzqTKajM&feature=related which was previously posted here, I believe

These are great - love them...

It would be interesting to know; at exactly what point (or group stage position) of the CL would a spurs exit not be "bottling it"?

I'll put my cards on the table and say that if Arsenal, Chelsea or Man U did not make it past the group stage then I would consider them to have "bottled it". Anything less than semi finals would be acceptable, and anything from semi-finals onwards would be "well done".

But I don't actually hold the same expectation for spurs, and I think it's justified based on
1. the relative strength of the group
2. our lack of experience in the CL
3. the fact that we're the last of the 4 qualifiers from England

FWIW, we were celebrating for just getting to the CL a few months ago.  . .

Get in there - 2 goals in 3 minutes to start second half - van der Vaart & Pav from the spot
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Good decision to switch to this game from the Manu borefest.

Crazy game this one. Van der vaart off. Stupid challenge when on a yellow. Now Spurs penalty 3-1.
