Harry's take on Crouch seems to be that he creates the havoc and the team will prosper by feeding off him. Certainly VDV couldn't argue with that.

He certainly does cause havoc, which the team (well vdV) have benefitted from - this is also what Heskey did for years with England, and look how much abuse he got! Difference is Heskey had someone else with him upfront, Crouch does not - playing a striker who can't seem to score as a lone frontman will clearly reduce our goal count, I think this is where we can really strengthen the team. And as for Crouch's heading ability, well....

Nice Quote from The Guardian re Harry/Crouch:
Harry Redknapp, who has also been busily sticking up for Peter Crouch. "He gives you something else," said Redknapp, stopping short of divulging whether the something else in question is a rousing rendition of Starship's We Built This City at the club Christmas party, thoughtful but inexpensive birthday presents, or something more mundane and unpleasant, such as fleas.

Nothing against a striker causing a bit of havoc and scoring or even scoring without causing havoc.

It annoys me he starts with Crouch, I'd start with Pav everytime, he has a more allround game. Sure he has his limits, but he can hold the ball up, good in air, can shoot from further out than 6 yrds, passes well etc.

Sure Crouch plays well with his back to goal, but struggles when he's round the other way! I don't think Pav does, he gets himself into good positions, he just needs to start putting some of them away...

It will be fascinating to see what Harry does with JD is back. Can you imagine playing 4-4-1-1 with VDV and Defoe and the 1-1...

...and to think NZ's been having problems with getting Hobbits to work together...

I may be tempoted to get up and watch this match.  Don't really fancy our chances but this might be the best opportunity to beat the red Mancs for a while.

They were the only team of the big 4 that we didn't beat last season.

Didn't watch it in the end (up too late playing Boxhead 2) - which was a good thing by all accounts.

Plenty of more games to go.  Will VDV and Bale be OK for Internazionale on Tuesday?

Sounds like a decent match Mike - unlike what we'll see tonight, unfortunately. Am sitting at work watching a rubbish match between Man U and Bursaspor and waiting to catch the delayed coverage of Spurs v Inter - bloody ESPN nonsense

What link are you watching, Sean? I'm at work flicking between Guardiand and Beeb.

Or is that proper TV you get at work?HarryHotspur2010-11-03 09:29:08

Watched in online, Bale was immense. The last goal was outlandish, Bale gets it just before half way, boots it 20m past Maicon, and sprints past him, recovers the ball, gets to the edge of the box, and provides the perfect cross to Pav who side foots from 6 yards.

For the first time in a while (well since we last played Milan) he wasn't double marked. He tore Maicon apart tonight, and Crouch should have had another couple from assists from Bale.

He is a fantastic exciting player - can we keep him?
