Oh yeah, for all my lambasting it's me who started this one. To be fair I didn't think there would be much to debate, but 🤷

Yeah, you underestimated the number of Nix fans who have what both you and I would consider reactionary politics. Of course, they consider us to be the Woke Mind Virus or whatever, so we have nothing to complain about.

Poland is not known to be one of the more socially enlightened countries on the planet :(

I would not make a link between what Zawada was saying and the question whether Poland is socially enlightened  or not.  I know nothing about his personal opinions on women's rights or even human rights in general.
As for Poland being "socially enlightened" -  it certainly is not by our formal standards, and you will find a lot of patronising nonsense even in public life.  Strangely enough, the 45 years of socialist rule made it in some ways miles ahead of New Zealand (for example, equal pay for men and women for the same work, or paid maternal leave for up to 2 years with an optional third year at half pay, etc).
In other areas It has become pretty bad under the current government (in office since 2015) that is trying to turn Poland into the closest thing to what Franco's Spain or Ireland under the Catholic Church rule have been (clawing back of the previously existing abortion rights etc).
At the same time , you would be surprised at the growing strength of their younger (and older) generation's support of women's rights to bodily autonomy, rights which have been trampled by the the powerful church lobby that has the gained the ear of the government for over ten years now.

New Zealand is becoming more like California. People who say a lot of the right things, but wouldn’t help someone with a flat tyre and expect an Uber and much beside as of right. Peppered with a disgusting amount of pseudoscience nutters. And at the end of the day stark inequality.

I think a lot in NZ would be surprised at some of the social benefits and rights there are available in other countries.

And do not even get me started on the availability of (access to) modern fully funded cancer medication; or even just access to medical and affordable dental care. Sixty years later and I still have all my own teeth thanks to the  "socialist" free dental care received as a young guy in Poland.  End of OTT.

It boggles my mind that dental care isn't covered here.

It boggles my mind that people believe in the trickle down economy when we don't have a (meaningful) capital gains tax on housing and people can invest in a commodity almost guarantee to make money (if not forced to sell early) and keep all profit.

Someone should start a "it boggles my mind page!"

It's been really brought home to me recently that what "boggles the mind" for us is considered absolutely sensible by many other people on this forum, and vice versa. I mean, I could write a perfect impression of someone who thinks that private dental care is absolutely correct, and indeed that doing anything different would be confiscating the wealth of Hard-Working Kiwis so a bunch of shiftless fat bludgers can eat candy. It would be absolutely foul from my point of view but it would make sense if you accept the assumptions that those people have.

There is very little middle ground, or even agreed reality, anymore.

By now I have accepted that if I want to engage in a sensible, polite, political discussion, I need to go to Yellow Fever Forum and look for "Zawada".  :-)

I agree with Doloras that political polarisation makes it hard to talk openly and exchange ideas with respect for others' views. To paraphrase The Orange One, "there are lots of good people on both sides" of the political spectrum even if we may think they are bonkers if they have opposite views from ours.
I used to think that the polarisation was a particularly USA phenomenon, due to their two-party system, but now came to accept that this is a modern societal phenomenon present in most parliamentary democracies with good access to the internet.

Modern politics for me is typified by the cartoon of a group of black people on one side, the KKK on the other, and in the middle a well-meaning white guy holding a sign saying COMPROMISE?

And the really horrible thing is both Left and Right will tell you that *they* are the victimised black people and *those guys over  there* are the KKK itching to destroy them. All I can say is that the last time fascist ideas were so popular we needed a world war to sort it out.

The rise of Facism in Europe and America is concerning.

We need aliens... that way we can finally come together as a human race and hate something else as one!!

I'm hoping the current trend of misinformation, us/them mentalities is a fad and that it will pass sooner rather than later. NZ gives me some hope otherwise I think individuals like Mr Tamaki and Mr Peters would be getting a bigger chunk of the election pie.

I mean I don’t think that the division Doloras mentions is an exact description of NZ politics, but I do think we should leave Zawada’s thread for goals and glory!

And to be honest I don’t mind my football with a mild sprinkling of politics, as long as we all pull together once things get going! And I think by nature those given more to opinionated statements are attracted to online forums, so it’s only natural we see those from time to time.

I think it’s not that we’re seeing more politics on here, but less of everything else- other sport, banter, controversy over Liverpool merch etc etc

He's looking fit and healthy today at training. Also a word on Wooten, whom looks like he's lost a lot of weight and too, is looking lean and healthy.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

A suspicious mind might wonder if his distractions in the press had anything to do with his injury. Certainly distractions hurt us a lot last year.

Keeping it real. I think whilst everyone would be happy if Zwada stayed it would take him and his agent declining a couple of decent offers and accepting what the Nix could afford.

I just scrolled up and saw he was out for 3-4 weeks. That was 4 months ago. He's had a shocking season. I think he almost needs to stay another year and have a good season to have any chance of getting a good contract overseas.

That's gutting.
I see the article mentions they still hold out hope he may be able to play a role during the finals series - probably unlikely, but it would be great to have him as an extra option up front in those must win games.

Tough season for him unfortunately

Lil ig post from Zawada “it’s hard to beat a person who never gives up @wellingtonphoenix see you soon again” also liked a comment that said please resign.

Hopefully he’s back for the MacArthur game to get some fitness going into the finals

I miss the Spelling Referee.
He alone could enforce differentiating between Zawada being re-signed vs resigned.

Maybe I should branch out and not just correct player names...

Will be good if we can get him some minutes these next two games without getting injured again so he can play a part in the finals. Don’t think he’ll be ready to start till the home semi

The best part about top two is the week off in the first round of finals. Means the boys can go hard out in these last couple of games knowing they have a week off before we get back into the action. Really beneficial especially for the likes of Zawada who can have small minutes off the bench with an eye to a bigger role in the last (hopefully) three games.
