So, who can go to the airport tomorrow to see if he's on the flight to Newcastle?

The best part about top two is the week off in the first round of finals. Means the boys can go hard out in these last couple of games knowing they have a week off before we get back into the action. Really beneficial especially for the likes of Zawada who can have small minutes off the bench with an eye to a bigger role in the last (hopefully) three games.

If he’s good to go for the final league game we should play him. As I see it we’re in the hunt for two equally important pieces of silverware in the next few weeks and if we get either I’ll be bloody stoked. Not interested in resting a key player for a potentially decisive league game in favour of what is essentially a cup game a few weeks later.

My money's on Rollo or Piney (or both) being there to see them off. They'll be quick to let the twitter-verse know.

There’s no way he goes to Brisbane !!!

It seems unlikely - particularly given Brisbane's owners have consistently talked about how they don't want to invest big money into the squad and want to play young local players.

And also every few years seem to fall into a crisis where they either haven't paid players, paid council for the use of facilities, paid the stadium, paid taxes, etc.

I was looking at that announcement, plus the squad they have (with players like Rojas) and was wondering how they could outspend us when they constantly seem to be on the verge of collapse. But then, that's probably why they careen from one disaster to the next.

This is just me speculating but Zawada is up in Auckland for the week break between the semis. I know he was in Auckland before for rehab? So I wonder if he’s up there again for that or just enjoying the city.

But it wouldn’t surprise me if we can’t table a good contract he’s probably looking for that Auckland FC will look to get him as it seems Maclaren is not heading there now.

If that happens will add some spice to the derby games.

There are some AFC supporters on their FB group chat, who reckon they have the lanky Pole striker.

I love the guy but if they wanna risk him playing half the season on big wages, good for them.

He likes the country and the league, if we can't (or don't want to) keep him then I don't begrudge him going to Auckland.

He's a good player, but last season was the best in his career. He's spent most of his career injured and with limited game time. He's a bit of a risk.

I'm ok with him going - even if it is to Auckland.
He's been a good player for the NIX and a great ambassador for the league as a whole.
I want Aucks and the NIX to be successful next year - can only be good for the league and NZ Football.

I think him staying in NZ is a good positive sign of what NZ can offer as a place to live. That sort of value proposition benefits the NIX and AFC. But tbh I hope the best for him, I'd rather the nix spent the money on kraev and Kosta and as long as we keep those to I'd be happy for zawada getting a good opportunity and to keep seeing him in the A-league.

I found this on the A league app late last night.

Sad to see him go, but he has been injired for most of this season! Yes he's scored goals for us at crucil moments, not least in the semi-final, but is that worth months of odd injuries. If AFC want to risk spending decent money on him then good on them - we took a risk and got one full season out of him then he went back to type and spent half a season off the park. My guess is he'll go back to a lower league in Europe, can't see AFC wanting to risk the kind of money Zawada and his agent would be asking.

Reading through the article, Cheif says that Zawada had indicated that he wanted to move on but the offer he wanted didnt come throgh.

“I’ve made that decision. Oz at the beginning of the year was looking to move, he didn’t get the move but I think there will be heaps of suitors for him.”
So Zawada is clubless now and looking for whatever opportunity he can grab.

His first choice turned him down, they can have our seconds.

On a more serious note, I hope he does well (against everyone other than us), if we'd wanted to keep him and he moved to Auckland that would be a different story, but he wanted to stay and we made the choice to prioritise other players and positions so no hard feelings on my part.

Certainly won’t boo him, but I really wanted him to leave the a league if he wasn’t with us. Him Scoring against us will be fecking sheit.

I listened to the commentary on Zawada which covered both his goal against Victory, as well as the fact that it "appears" he is joining Auckland FC. While the panelist stressed it was unconfirmed, he said he got it from "reliable local sources", whatever that means.
They were quite aware of Auckland FC and gave thumbs up to NZ having two clubs now in ALM, which was nice.

He is going to Auckland not because NZ is shark and the missus hates it or because he always wanted to be somewhere nicer. But simply because the budget has been slashed and the nix have decided to redistribute what is left to other players. Going to be real hard to hate the guy, I wish him the best.

That's not what it says. This is all a game of telephone. The original instagram post said something like "rumours linking him to Auckland". And why would Auckland want him, he's crocked

A year ago it looked unlikely he'd stay in the a-league but you have to think all his recent injury drama would have cooled any overseas interest. It pains me to say it but I'd rather he play for auckland than any of the aussie sides

As I said earlier, the actual spoken commentary in Polish added a disclaimer that this is all "alleged" by "good sources in NZ", which means f-all despite their overall comment this is a done deal..

No idea why you continue to say he is crocked when he just scored one of the most famous goals in Nix history. If he continues to get injured next season the maybe yeah he is crocked. Until then he is just a player who has struggled with injury for one season, plenty of players, even in the premier league have that happen during their careers

It's been discussed on here and in other areas that last season was one of his few "full" seasons, he's been plagued with injury shortened seasons through his career. So this season was the norm not the anomoly. I dont know if that means he is done but it makes the risk even higher, especially if you're going to fork out big money for his wage.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but "can't play 90 minutes any more" might be the same as "crocked" in my language
