oh wow. how crazy were this morning games. just loved it. I thought it peaked with the Dortmund game, but that Porto win was something else. I hope the new UCL format doesn't fudge with this.

It’s a funny quirk of the draw this year that the teams in pot two look significantly more imposing than those in pot one. Especially for Liverpool and United, who can’t draw Chelsea and City.

Watching the City vs PSG game. Same referee as United vs Young Boys.

The first one was a red card. The second one isn't.So glad the VAR is here to bring us such consistency.

Interesting:
No UEFA club competitons are being held between November 3 2022 and February 14 2023 (three and a half months) because of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November and December.
Tough for Spark Sport, who have already lost the EPL and are going to lose a lot of their remaining football subscribers, with few subscribing at all from November through to mid-February.
UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2022 - 23:
The 2022-23 Group Stages dates — all Tuesday and Wednesday evenings — are:
  • September 6-7
  • September 13-14
  • October 4-5
  • October 11-12
  • October 25-26
  • November 1-2
  • ROUND OF 16:
  • February 14-15, 2023
  • February 21-22, 2023
  • March 7-8, 2023
  • March 14-15, 2023

Real have absolutely mugged their way to the final. They have never been the better side offer 90mins. But when they click for 5 or so mins, they blow people off the park.

How on earth someone at UEFA has watched this competition year in year out and decided it needs a revamp is fudgeing bonkers.

The greatest sports competition on earth.

Three for me, and two for them.

Omg.

Real didn’t score until the last few minutes when City were two up on aggregate?

Pep must be ready to try voodoo or something.

Well Real Madrid win it. Liverpool fans show up is numbers and try and squeeze in causing a delay in kick off time.

Up to 60,000 Liverpool supporters, most without tickets, throng Paris, turning avenues and cafe terraces red in their team's colours ahead of the Champions League final against Real Madrid. With each club allocated space for just 20,000 supporters...

At least they didn't murder anyone this time.

No word yet but I suppose that Sky will pick up the rights to the Champions League and other UEFA club comps now that Spark Sport has folded?

Annoying. Was assuming Sky would pick it up so there wouldn't be another subscription to pay for.
I see if you are a Sky Sport customer you can get it discounted for $12.99 a month for 6 months (usually $14.99) or $119.99 for 12 months. Won't be stuff on it that I'd watch for 12 months so will probably just get it whilst Arsenal remain in the CL and cancel once we're out. I suppose it's still better than last season when it was $25 a month for Spark in addition to Sky Sport.

Also annoyed that I'll have to pay extra.
Worth contacting Sky to ask if they are going to screen the Champions League.
There's always some chance they will do a deal with beIN because not many people in NZ will subscribe to beIN and they may enjoy getting some revenue from Sky.
Sky have just picked up the rights to the Dutch Eredivisie so may be interested in rights to other football.

What Sky have stated (and done) is that they won't be renewing their four year deal to carry a beIN Sport channel on Sky with multiple leagues covered.
There is no reason that they couldn't just pay beIN for the rights to specific content like the Champions League.

Fun scenes across France after the great win by PSG 5-0 in the CL final. 800+ people arrested, 300+ cars torched, two dead. Makes you wonder what would have happened if they lost.
Great game. PSG were a joke before with their all stars team. Now they have a real team packed with brilliant youngsters. Easily now the best team in Europe.
In France PSG are hated outside Paris. Its a bit like us and AFC. You begrudgingly recognise their success but you dont celebrate it.
As an aside. I have a friend moving to NZ and he asked if he can watch CL football in NZ. Is it Bein sport? How much per month?

I'm in the east of France this week and there were a number celebrating outside my hotel window on Saturday night.  Can't imagine if a London team had won there'd be celebrations in other towns in England.

It was a good thing Auckland FC did not make the A-league final as I might have faced an interesting day last Saturday being mistaken for an Inter supporter  if I'd worn my blue and black Auckland FC shirt in sight of PSG supporters.
