Bellingham really taking on the mantle in the midfield. Giving a bit of physicality back for all the cheap shots.

First time for me to see Guehi and he’s been tidy so far.

Be interesting to see if they play down the left much in the next half. Foden hasn’t done much or had much to do yet…

England lucky in the end - Serbia in my eyes deserved a penalty there.

Sharke second half from England. Let Serbia right back in to the match. Far too passive and defensive.

Bellingham man of the match for me. Head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch.

Southgate needs to bin off Trent in midfield now. Too many misplaced passes. Get Wharton or Mainoo on instead.

Three for me, and two for them.

Eh? I didn’t catch that one? Surely not the Trippier bump? That would’ve been a super soft pen.

Kane perhaps not his best match, compared to his imperiousness in previous tournaments. Trippier is keeping Foden caged imo. Or Foden isn’t up to snuff, which the statistics say he is, but he’s got a settled, drilled reliable team around him at City.

Solid enough start. Low energy second half. 3 points.

Bellingham was great but exhausted from carrying everyone. Needs a bit more help.

Trippier and Gordon is a short term solution. They need Foden sparking to get a decent run in the tournament. Maybe Gomez on the left? Bit of a mess.

On that performance you wouldn't be backing the English to get any further than the knock out matches. Denmark and Slovenia probably aren't going cause too many issues but Germany or the Dutch are going to be more difficult.

England's left just isn't anywhere near as strong as England's right. Foden plays his best football on the right but he has been shoehorned in on the left to accomodate Saka starting on the right, who tbf had a good game this morning despite fading in the second half.

England also go down the right and ignore the left far too much, it's all very predictable.

Still, you start a tournament with three points and a clean sheet, can't be sniffed at.

Three for me, and two for them.

Trent, Foden, and maybe even Kane should've been subbed at half time for Mainoo, Palmer, and Watkins.

Anyone who thinks Trent should play in midfielder, never-lone over Mainoo or Gallagher is out of it. The fact the first half went okay is testament to how good Bellingham is.

Foden lasting the whole match is unreal.

You think they’ll have a bit more up their sleeve. Gallagher and Bowen looked decent enough. They’ve got Toney and the Villa fellow.

There’ll be a bit of evolution of plans yet you’d think after that game.

Only just seen the tripper challenge. Shoulder to middle of the back, that’s a pen.

Absolutely this. If this challenge happens anywhere else, it's blown as a foul - indeed there were several examples of softer fouls given during the match. In the box, the ref didn't have the stones to make the big call.

In general I like the new refereeing rule that only captains are allowed to talk to the referee. Removes all the ridiculous player theatrics out of the game. We need this for the A-Leagues, very simple to implement.

Come the end of the tournament it will probably be forgotten and players will be getting away with berating refs like they always do.

As much as i agree with you in theory I think buffon's right and players will start getting away with it anyway, time will tell though

This is exactly why online ratings are about as useful as a chocolate kettle.

Tbf whoever compiled these ratings did well considering they probably struggle to dress themselves in the morning.

Nothing too surprising with this mornings results except that Portugal were very lucky, Czechia handed them both goals on a platter.

I asked TVNZ on Twitter and they said...

"Kia ora! Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, the highlights we have been provided for #EURo2024 are without commentary. We are enquiring as to why this is and seeking a remedy "

To be fair, probably not a question you'd think to ask when buying rights...

Just finished watching the Turkey vs Georgia highlights and the Turks look exciting. Reminded me of their amazing team that came third at the 2002 World Cup.  Would be stoked to see them go all the way.

Their first two goals were great strikes, and the last one was a player running the length of the pitch to score as the Georgian keeper had come up for the corner. The most impressive part was the linesman keeping up with the goalscorer the whole way.

Interesting that after a full round of group games not a single player has scored more than one goal. 31 different goal scorers so far.

One player has managed two assists though. Dennis Man of Romania.

Would have thought the package would include the half time and full time studio analysis rather than just ads and cut off straight at full time, but at least we have the games.

As an aside, if I'm ever in a position to build a home I purposely won't go to GJ Gardner after how many times I've been unable to skip their fudgeing ad on the app this week, and how many more times a day I'll have to watch it for the next few weeks.

Agree about that ads. But if CJ Gardener homes can halt the signs of ageing like they have for Simon Barnett, I could well be interested in a new whare.

Does any one know how long does it take TVNZ to pop up the full replay?

Wouldn’t mind Denmark doing well in this tournament so I’m happy with that result.

It’s always a laugh to watch England buckle under the weight of their own expectations.

I watched the second half, it's puzzling how bad they played. There was a lot of bad passing, no energy and lack of any individual class. Looks like Southgate sucks all the quality out of his players. I personally love it.

Every big tournament we have the shame story - England have their best squad ever but some how fail to make it past the knock out phase. It's totally hilarious watching their fans boast about how great they are and then how quick they turn when the team fails to meet expectations.

My fave part of this competition is getting to see the new batch of young guns coming through. Germany's Musiala looks to be a massive talent.

He's been defended for ages by the press but the BBC pundits were pretty scathing of him after this match. Perhaps the tide is finally turning against him.

Southgate admitted after the game that Trent is an experiment because the plan was for Phillips to be fit. The man is a fraud.

Get Potter in. Or someone with a bit of endeavor about them.

Southgate has been ripped to shreds regularly. Mostly for not playing Foden. But he’s played Foden this tournament and he and Bellingham haven’t clicked together yet.

There’s a generational change in the team and not much cohesion between the players yet. And there’s no left back. But also, the big game players in the team going forward were somewhat anonymous. Walker, Stones, Guehi and Pickford had good games I thought, particularly Walker.

They were up against a Danish team that is one of the most cohesive. Apparently they have the most unchanged squad since the last Euros. They played really well. They double or triple marked Bellingham, who looked tired and uninspired. They came at England and scored a wonder goal to equalise.

Look at the Spain game. Those players forced a million brilliant saves from Donnaruma. In this game England must be deemed a limited squad by comparison. But then if Saka’s header and one of Foden’s shots go in we’re all saying Foden has finally arrived with this England team and TAA is a luxury worth having because he creates goals out of nowhere. Spain only scored and won because of an own goal. France, an undeniably talented tea, also sneaked in their win.

Previously Southgate had a team of control- Rice and Kalvin Phillips didn’t allow half those shots, possession was maintained and Kane was younger.

The parts not quite working together is the problem and the team not responding to a strong, motivated and tactically smart Denmark.

For example Bellingham played Watkins in with a through ball he couldn’t with Kane. But overall the substitutes lack of impact should be concerning. Bellingham wasn’t making late runs into the box because there weren’t any crosses.

And is the current generation better than Lampard, Scholes, Gerard and Beckham? Better than Rooney, Ashley Cole and Rio Ferdinand? Better than Crouchy and Hargreaves?

The team has abandoned Southgate’s model of two holding midfielders which saw them control games and progress with relative comfort previously.  Mostly because they don’t have a second holding mid or a left footed left back of sufficient quality and fitness.

But in this game Bellingham got shut down and the team couldn’t cope with that. Bellingham himself kept on turning into the second or third defender pressing him and falling over. Didn’t work, he rarely got a whistle. The other play makers couldn’t step up and the team wasn’t cohesive in passing.

The other factor is most of these guys- Saka, Bellingham and Foden particularly, have played a lot of football and perhaps just weren’t as fresh as they might have been.

And Dominic Solanke? Surely a better plan B? And

But it’s a team that doesn’t have time together to find cohesion through playing together for 4 years so they better do it another way, chop, chop.

If you really think that this is the most talented and more talented than other teams at this tournament, who are Southgate’s bankers? Who are the players he can rely on? Maybe Saka, Pickford, Stones, Walker and Rice? Not enough there yet to win a tournament or perhaps even to get out of group…

Sorry a very sleep deprived effort and we’re all down with a nasty cold too. Though some might say not much different from usual!

Long story short- could have been worse. The tournament has been refreshingly even in results for everyone except the Scots so far and there has been some amazing goals. Turkey! Shaqiri!

Perhaps England should send their best to the MLS so they’re conditioned like Shaqiri is…remember when Stoke was in the PL and kinda of good? Phhhhhhh. Shaqiri does!

In terms of talent he has the current PFA Player of the Year, La Liga Player of the Year (who also won Bundesliga Player of the Year last year), and Bundesliga Golden Boot (who has also scored over 200 goals in the Premier League).

He also has one of the best defensive midfielders in the Prem, one of the best right wingers in the Prem (and Europe), and a right back who many would consider the one of the best of the Premier League era. Actually two right backs if you include the one currently deployed in centre mid.

He has a number of league title winners and Champions League winners at his disposal. Not third choice keepers either, integral players to their teams success.

The talent is there, the manager is not.

That isn’t to say this is the best team on paper at the tournament. I don’t think they are. I’d have France ahead for starters. But this squad is hardly Georgia.

Three for me, and two for them.
