Somewhat suprising that Aaron Clapham never got called up given the number of players that did.

Football: Selection questions vex All Whites coach Anthony Hudson
"We're on such a good run the last few years. We've lost one game in two years. You know, we've scored 26 goals, conceded five.
"I don't care what league you're in or what country you're in, what level, we're on a very very consistent run, so I feel very positive about where we're at. We're doing the right things and we're building something very strong."
The All Whites actually lost two games in the past two years, against Mexico and South Korea, scoring 16 goals, not 26, while conceding six, rather than the five Hudson stated.
Hudson is the Trump of Head Coaches.
you can blame Hudson for many things but blaming him for picking those two (who were half decent) and their injuries is not on
not blaming him. It just seems a bit crap.Seems like they both worked long and hard over years, were starting to get noticed, got a call up, got injured and then have struggled to get back to where they were.
You reckon it something to do with the medical team? Maybe not doing the right warm ups etc? Both happened during games.
Both injuries were ACLs weren't they? If so that's plain bad luck. Might have more to do with quality of pitches in Oman and New Calendoni than any fault of AWs medicos. Cameron is still very young do hopefully he can regain his form and Blackpool stick with him
Graham has yet to return from his injury
I shake my head at Hudson's whining about negative reaction to his selections. Would he rather we all just meekly accepted his picks and said nothing?
He should try coaching in a country where people really get stuck in!
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

oh Anthony, the penalties against Papua doesn't count
Hudson gets hit on here no matter what he does. I knwo for a fact that the senior players respect him as a coach and like him as a man manager and that's enough for me to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I'm also 100% behind the logic of trying out new players - he replaced a coach who was criticised time and again for sticking to his favourites and not trying new blood and now that he's tested the depth of his squad he gets attacked for it? Make your bloody mind up!
We've known since he started that he was to be judged on this World Cup qualification campaign more than any other, can you blame him for exploring his options extensively and allowing himself the best possible chance?
Admittedly there are some bizarre decisions - Moses Dyer, etc but I'm happy to reserve judgement on his ability as our coach until he's actually done the bit that NZF wants to judge him on. He's done enough (in my eyes anyway) to earn that right.

Since when does a coach need to try them all and waste limited game time and training he has? Surely he could of wandered around the place and seen these blokes playing in club matches to assess whether they were anywhere near where they need to be.

Did he wander over to Brisbane to watch a 17 year old ( who nobody has ever heard of) play two games for the Roar?
If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Agreed with this. There's a difference between 'trying out new players' and burning through 54 players in 3 years/18 games for the All Whites. Inconsistent schedules (which he can't do much about) + Inconsistent squad selection (which he can do something about) doesn't equal consistent performances/results/success. Barring injury/suspension I would like there to be a very similar starting XI and bench for every game from now on, until the end of the WC qualifications and Confeds Cup.
Trying out new players is awesome for a club side, but does it kill the prestige of putting on that All White's shirt if you have young players who aren't even playing professionally called up?
My conspiracy theory is that he's purposely trying to fall out of favour with the NZ media, so he has even more of an excuse to jump ship with his flashy wikipedia CV.

Since when has the All Whites shirt had prestige? The general public couldn't give 2 sharks about who's playing for NZ.

Tell any of the players who have played in world cups that the shirt has no prestige. Even tell our own Leggy the shirt has no prestige. Sure it is no Brazil, but for every player who pulls it on it means plenty.
Edit: Except Tommy Smith

We both know the issue is far more complex than simply not knowing who the players are.
I'm sure it means plenty to the players. I just don't see how capping players diminishes their past achievements and I doubt most of them are all that concerned.
Valley FC til I die?
Aside from the stupid number of players he has capped, do you not think it would be advantageous heading into WC qualifiers to have a settled(ish) starting 11 and maybe squad of 20 or so that have had a few games under thier belt together?

Men we all know we will win the next stage of qualifying but the fact is Hudson is a whining nobb and if youv'e had the chance to speak to him face to face he's so far up his own arse hes got a brown nose he'll turn out to be worse than that Irish coach a few years back Joe ??????? Who actually appointed this man thats getting p off
The criticism that he's blooded 54 players is just but think of what would have happened if he didn't try them all. He's leaving no stone unturned with the limited Manager time that he gets. I'm sure if he had more games like what other top tier nations get then he would be able to keep it fairly settled and introduce players sparingly may be even time to try some others like Keat and James. Also the lack of resources to have a NZ A team means he has to utilise his minimal resources to know what he's got to work with before the World Cup cycle. To me he's done some good planning considering what he has to work with and being a coach for NZ results wise he could have done much worse with all the new caps thrown in. I'm sure he would have preferred more games during the last 2 years so the team is better prepared but he can only do so much with the little time he gets.

He used a lot of swear words at the All Whites training this week, maybe this is normal, I found it a bit odd.
And corner kicks practice, don't expect anything to fancy, don't think they pull stuff like this off:

why the perception that you need to see them in the team to see if they are any good?
I'm no coach so I can't say much myself
A bunch of names on paper may look like a good team but are they a good team? What better way than to test the theory.
Being in the team/not in the team doesn't mean that the player is a good/bad. You gotta find whats best for the team. However if putting the team first means that some players need to be tested in the environment to prove the theory why not? We have very few pros at elite level so getting injuries to our top players means someone has to step up and its better for someone familiar with the environment than not, it also gives the outsiders a carrot to aspire to perform well at lower levels (SSprem) and keep the fitness levels high.
at this level they are selected on performance now, we just hope they can gel for the teams sake, having competition on the bench encourages commitment and makes everyone feel secure that our team is there for the wright reason..
TO WIN

If you can't see the intent for a high pressing game in Hudson's All Whites' on-field efforts, I'm concerned. It's nowhere close to a finished product, but he's definitely trying to implement it, for the most part.

Our form over the last 12 months has been good enough for me, a draw against the states and a competitive showing against Mexico is nothing to be laughed at.
Lets see how we go at the Confeds.

Interesting, I have not noticed any real pressing intent in our play. I also remember him saying he wanted to implement a "high-tempo" style which I definitely haven't seen.

Wonder what All Whites games you've been watching if pressing hasn't been seen in them. Much less so in the islands (heat), but v Mexico/USA and in the early friendlies for sure. Mostly haphazard, granted, but it's not as if his teams are sitting off and holding their shape.
He's liked by the players and seen as professional, after Herbert and with the shambles that NZF can be, surely we can't underestimate the value of this fact.
Even after he goes, hopefully, the professionalism he's brought to the team through his research and planning will stay behind.

Admittedly Herbert juggled 2 jobs, but Hudsons level of planning seems light years ahead. And yes being currently liked/respected by his players says something
