Woop, bet365 has streaming of the games.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea vs UAE.  Some nice movement from the DPRK.  But defence and goalkeeping, full of the LOLs.  DPRK penalty miss.  UAE starting to put on the pressure.  At the 29' mark.

Probably the best game I've seen so far. Two evenly matched teams, both having dominant periods, good build-up from both midfields and creating opportunities. Decent quality of football too. (The exception has been NK's keeper).
Very few fouls as well.

A half of two halves

DPRK completely in their shell now.  Harper: "Can you even call it an attack" [whenever DPRK goes forward].  UAE "playing all the football" according to Hill.  But do they have the killer quality in the final 1/3?  Doubt it.  67' mark.

The 2nd half, DPRK vs UAE turned into a Nix away game - a bit of sh*theap.

0-0.  Final.

Scratch my earlier comment about the quality. As Stevo said, 2nd half was rubbish; though the NK keeper, was much better. Funny thing is, I too was comparing it to a Phoenix game - typical away match v Perth.

Thought Harper and Hill were overly anti-NK, as UAE weren't much better.

Stevo, did you pick up on the comment about the NK sub who was the first Nth Korean to play in Russia? "He had a ..minder, and wasn't allowed a TV or refrigerator.... The reason he wasn't allowed a fridge was they were afraid he'd catch cold from iced drinks"

My first thought was "Was he allowed to sleep with a fan on?"

Ha Wolfy!

Weren't they just?  I think Harps might be getting a little peeved at the "quality" of this tournament so far.  He sounds pretty pissed off these days, that's for sure.

Nonetheless, Star Sports' Shebby Singh* called the DPRK "pathetic".

*Ex-Malaysian international, and without doubt, the 2nd worst football commentator in history**.  My spine still tingles - in the most awful way possible - whenever I think of his "commentary" of the Bahrain/NZ tie.

**Only behind some Indian dude who provides official commentary for the AFC.

Stevo, I gave up on Shebby years ago. I see they've now paired him with Steve McMahon in some kind of EPL review show...Jesus wept. I proudly say I've never tuned in. It's bad enough reading McMahon's tripe in the paper every Saturday.

I now feel fortunate I had to watch a mute replay of the Bahrain match while the other punters at the bar who were watching the All Blacks.

Although I think you're being harsh putting Shebby 2nd; there's always Tommy Smyth

One thing you can say about this Asia Cup is that they are playing on pitches that are 'magic'

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Day 6
Kuwait v Uzbekistan. Pretty cagey stuff in the first 15-20 minutes, only one really good chance. Akmedov heading over from close range.

Shatskikh 40' . Free kick in front of goal, hits his own player on the end of the wall, and deflected past the keeper.

Halftime 1-0.  Uzbekistan dominating. Apart from some nice crosses from the left by Waleed, Kuwait offering nothing wolfman2011-01-13 03:30:41

Kuwait come out in the second half with more intent, and get a penalty.

1-1, 48' Bader Al Mutwa (pen).

64' Server Dyeparov. Gets teed up up the edge of the box, and lashes it just inside the post.

Is this "expert" comments man* with it?  Can he speak anymore slowly?  UZB are kind of the NZL of Asia, bigger guys, more direct.  Lovely strike UZB.  2-1 after 66'.  "This goal came from nothing".

*Maybe Shebby's bro?

Stevo, I thought it was Shebby (Fulltime EDIT Apparently, he's called "Bert")

Uzbekistan 2-1 fulltime.

Kuwait played well in patches, but Uzbekistan too good overall. Uzbekistan all but through.
If China get anything out of their match with Qatar, Kuwait will be eliminated.

Sets up an interesting final day in Group A, with all 4 teams having a shot at going through (or going out).

Apparently that German sounding Bert guy who can't commentate to save his life is a former Perth Glory coach.

What a chance for Jordan to go 2-up.  Was probably 5 yards offside, though.

FT: 1-0 Jordan over the Saudis.  "It's like Brazil or Germany getting knocked out of the 1st round during a WC".

What about Italy or France?

An absolutely shocking piece of keeping, and the Saudis are eliminated. I was looking forward to seeing Yasser Al Qatani playing, but the forward who impressed me for Saudi was Naif Hazizi. Wins the ball in the air, good with ball at his feet, and a promising Fellani-style afro in the works. i.e, the complete package

All sorts of controversy there.Syria equalise from the spot. Keeper sent off for the foul. Was the Syrian off side?Five minutes of discussion later the penalty is slotted.

Japan take the lead with Honda driving home the penalty.
Debatable penalty.

Saudis do have a longer history of dodgy keeper.  The one in 2006 WC was quite bad.

Cheers for the link there 2ndBest.

Unfortunate for the goal keeper that he took only like, 2 steps out and the cross had just enough on it to float into the top corner. But I suppose at international level that kind of thing shouldn't be happening.

I'm starting to renege from my oz support.  The kind that are Scott "34 years" McIntyre, Craig Foster, Dingo's Son, and Matt Morris are weighing heavy on my mind.
