It's a reasonable point.

Those are guys whose local heroes are probably Englishmen, whereas most Premier League sides the heroes are the foreign contingent so the attachment to England as a whole is/could be reduced.

I'm in Dunedin on business tomorrow night. Anybody know if there is a pub showing the game?

Hang f*cking on a minute

I thought Terry and his weird press conference was a fr*ggin odd one, but I find out today that he did it off his own back and it was not backed buy the FA.

Now admittedly I never watched it, and the bits I read seemed very crap, but I cannot believe you would allow one of these clowns, (players), his own press conference that was not officially sanctioned.

Are they fr*ggin FA mad?

He should be fr*ggin sent home as well as Anelka.

We are in enough of a sh*tpit not to have the same bullsh*t going on as the French. We bought in the "Iron Duke' Capello to deal with these w*nkers in the squad not let them go and talk to the bloody press blaming others because they are rubbish.

Do these people have any understanding of their role in the universe? In the grand scheme of things? I know Terry has always been a th*ck tw*t but this is unreal.

I just watched the whole conference on the BBC site:

There isn't anything controversial in there, no slights cast on Capello or team mates. No criticism of tactics or anything like that beyond admitting that they had not played well so far. Just some honest answers and a little humour.

It seems odd if this was an independently convened conference, but seems more like a media-created storm in a tea cup than anything.

what are England missing..........a Leader on the pitch...Capello must wishing he never dropped the Captian who lead them so well to get them to the finals. Love or hate him, on the pitch there is no better leader than John Terry.

Not in the complete press conference as aired by the BBC he didn't. No-one was slagged off, beyond him saying that the team didn't play well. Was there another incident you meant?

I'll change the quote:

The loyal leader that is alleged to have slagged everyone off to the media ?

I think they should play 4231, swap Heskey for Joe Cole and play Gerrard behind Rooney and Cole on the left.

Really don't know about this one.

Was so sure they'd beat Algeria and for the first part of the match I thought they were good and just getting into the groove so to speak before burying Algeria.  WRONG!

I think they will because this is the end of the line if they don't.  But not going to put any monmey on it.

I'm biased but Defoe and Crouch have looked "hungry" when they've been brought on.

Yeah I am certainly not 100% confident but I think they will do it.
I heard they all had an open session team talk with management etc and all got everything off their chests as to what's going wrong and what ideas the team have to pull this out of the bag.
The media over there are slating Capello for picking the wrong starting XII and slating the players for 'lack of heart' on the pitch.

Slovenia are a tough ask though, nerve wracking stuff. I do hope they pull of a good win in the morning. USA vs. Algeria will be interesting too.

Wonder if that's why you see so many 'Mansfield Town' type banners at England games? Not taking the piss, just wonder if supporters of teams in the lower leagues can identify more, for the reasons you've stated.

There was a 'caistor' st george's cross for the first game. That's where I grew up with a population of a couple thousand in rural Lincolnshire.

well that was a better display all round. still alot of work to be done if we are hoping to go further

thought milner was really good tonight, as was all the defence, bar johnson on a few occasions. lamps, barry and gerrard were all guilty of giving the ball away cheaply a few times but the whole team seemed better at retaining possession and making something of it

thought rooney coming off was the wrong choice, didnt look to great after that. still think rooney is dropping a bit to deep

eyes to group D now to see who we get

Put Joe Cole in central midfield as the attacking option, play Gerrard deeper and drop Lampard. Stick Dawson in for Upson (who was actually OK today) and then you've got a team capable of beating Germany. In my opinion. TheJam2010-06-24 08:45:12
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Germany then Argentina. Won't troll. All i'll say is good luck, you'll need plenty of it to beat those two.

Three for me, and two for them.

not sure what to think about that performance, certainly an improvement

will need to continue an upward trend (or get a huge dollop of luck)to progress past the trad WC enemy, to the other trad WC enemy

certainly has the makings of a good story if it comes to pass

I agree with you about Cole. I think Lampard before Barry. We need S. Wright-P for a bit of pace. Milner seems a biy sluggish.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid
