I'm looking at skins leggings or similar to wear during practise and probably games on some of the colder mornings...has anyone had experience with these and do they rip up at all? Normal fabric longjohns ofcourse rip up easily so I'm hoping the different material fairs a bit better.

I havnt tried them at all.  i think they are mainly for running rather than with contact with the ground.  I often use thermal longs at practive.  Keep me warmiing and prevetn stinging from shot on cold nights.

DKP, are you back from injury?  How'd you guys get on in the weekend?

He stopped Feverish scoring on Saturday and then popped up in Sunday League with a quality finish.

I suspect he thinks he had a good weekend.

I hope he had one hand tied behind this back to make it slightly more challanging?

I use thermal longs at training but they rip up there too...will keep that in mind eejit, I provide my own goalie gear really such is the crap Soccer program at my school. Given that pro rugby etc players have worn these I'd hope they're not just for running...

Yea mate been back from injury for two weeks now. Beat Karori Waterside Dreamers 2-1, didn't have too much to do, their goal pretty much defining what a one on one means. Got a big game this weekend against Tawa, if we beat them, it will give us a good idea of whether we can get promoted to Capital 1 or not.

Your reserve team got a win finally?

They sure did.  Managed to see the first 30s up at wakefield of all places.  Def improving week by week.  Founf it pretty entertaining.  Could easily been 2-2 when I left.

Could be starting on the bench for 1sts this week, what with injuries and all.

Three for me, and two for them.

The bench is a very, very strange place when you've been starting for the last few seasons consecutively.

the question is why are you on the bench? and who is starting infront of you

Our reserve keeper is starting ahead of me. Why? Don't ask me i don't pick the team. Oh and DKP i haven't been starting for 1sts for several seasons so it's not something that i'm greatly upset about.

Three for me, and two for them.

Has the coach given you chances in the 1st team? I hate it when coaches automatically assume someone is better than you when they haven't even given you a chance in a 1st team match.

what team do you play for? how long has the keeper (who is now starting) been trainging with you?

I play for Birkenhead. I just progressed through to 1sts/Ressies this year. The keeper for 1sts in front of me has been at the club for several years and was Reserve keeper last year but has been promoted now. The reserve keeper i train with has just joined the club.

Tbh i'm happy to work hard in training and earn my place. I'm not about to go and spout sh*t like i should be starting every week blah blah whinge whinge because it's simply not true. So i'm happy where i'm at right now.

Three for me, and two for them.

Chatham Cup weekend, should be a few keepers responsible for some giant killings this week.

I hope we get a cup run going this year. Last year's defeat still haunts me.

Three for me, and two for them.

in about 6 years of senior football I have only ever played in one winning CC game.  Shocking.  It was a good 3-0 pumping of Island bay though...

Yer but it was your second team so not as bad.

We got Petone first up.  Pretty tough draw that.

No, I'll be with the reserves at Happy Valley 1 taking on the might of Brooklyn Northern United.

Ahh the romance of local football.

Happy Valley. Quality.

I remember the first CC bench warm i did.  Got rung up on saturday morning (after having a bending the night before) to be asked if I could.  Sat on the bench hungover as anything praying that i wouldn't have to go on.

Mine was benching for Wellington College against Olympic. Got asked on the morning of the match. Getting my gear together, I discovered I had lost my gloves.

We lost 11-0. Thank God I didn't need to go on.

Battling now with a somewhat average keeper (albeit improved greatly) for 1st eleven spot at school.  We have Terry Nutter coaching us who some might of heard of, I believe he was on the coaching staff at youngheart at one stage, and is currently coaching Palmerston North marist. Enjoying the competition for the spot as its really brought the best out of me I think and I'm playing with a lot of confidence. Never really had an element of competition before due to the general lack of keepers around. But who wouldn't want to be one...no glory if we win, all the sh*t if you lose...

Well theres me gone. Broke my leg on Saturday 2nd minute into the game. Went to block a shot and the guy accidentally kicked my leg. Broke my Tibia (or Fibia one of them), even with my shin pad baring some of the impact. 6 to 9 months out. Replacement goalie for my team had a seizure and had to go off. Next replacement goalie couldn't wear his glasses so was half blind for the rest of the match. He was also half deaf. Some game. Lost 7-2 in the end.

Christ and I thought we were cursed this season.  So far we've had a concussion, a head gash, a broken leg, and a broken collarbone and ribs.  All bar the head gash accidents.

Looks tame compared to you lads.

Bloody hell your team aren't fairing so well then either with the old injuries. Just hoping we can actually find a reliable replacement in goal.

Guttered.  A knew a goalkeeper who had that blood disease where it bleeds heaps because this blood won't clot.  HE had to give up GKing.

Anyway looks like it could be a tough day at the office tomorrow for us wgtn keepers.
