Worst thing is i sat in the changing rooms for the rest of the game and then had to wait about an hour after to get taken to A & E. I toughed it out though.

Three for me, and two for them.

Cheers for the support lads. It is highly unlikely i will be back out on the field this season, i'd say even nationals are out of the question at the moment.

Still i know things could be far worse.

Three for me, and two for them.

Sorry to hear Buffy. All the best for your rehabilitation.

You could play for Brooklyn Northern United now.

Hardly mate. It was one of those challenges where only one comes of worse for wear.

Still, i did prevent the goal.

Three for me, and two for them.

Gutted for ya man. I know what you're going through. I'm just out of a cast now from my one, my recovery has been a lot quicker than what doctors initially said to me, so don't take what they say straight away as gospel!

Thanks. I try not to listen to what they say anyway because some of it includes career ending damage which is something i dont want to consider one bit.

Just returned from the hospital, mixed news really.

Right now there is no need to operate and all they had to do is reinforce the cast but that means that i am in a full leg cast for about 6-8 weeks which is gutting as it is incredibly heavy and hard to move which means unless it is necessary i am pretty much stuck on the couch for up to 2 months!!

Still require a weekly xray to see whether or not my condition has worsened and ultimately i do need the operation. But right now that seems to be last resort.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yet another example of goalkeepers being completely undervalued by their team.

Hello all fellow goalkeepers. I dont trawl this site too often, but happened to come across this topic.

As you would know and hopefully agree. We seem to be the only store, certainly in Welly that devote any money and retail space into looking after keepers gear to any great variety.
I'm well aware that prodirect get a lot of business and that just the nature of competition.

Im just interested in getting some feedback on what else we can do to increase our trade with the keepers in this area and elsewhere.

There are obviously certain things outside of our control eg, access to the variety of product and what range suppliers will provide. The wholesalers will only bring in the range if they feel there's a demend for it and if they can meet the minimums. On the whole we try and get hold of what we can at the best price. Pretty much every keeeper who plays for a team in Welly gets an automatic discount and hopefully a pretty decent level of service.

If there are things we can do better and product you'd like us to stock let me know.

Funnily enough our enlarged keepers are in the shop is called "Keepers Union" but i stole that title from Danny Robinson at Waikato.

Cheers

Chin up, Buffy. Hope the recovery goes well and you're back to 100% soon.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I am impressed by Champs for starting to introduce Sells Goalkeeper Products to their range. Would also like to see uhlsport introduced. Some more goalkeeper clothing would be ideal also. Keep up the good work Champs.

Actually the range of keeper tops worldwide is pretty average.  I've checked international website there are very few that i would actually purchase.

There are some intersesting shorts sleeve Sells shirts and shorts sets available im getting in. I agree that most of the rest is boring although its all thats available and believe me i should know.We do stock the Sells Training jerseys and All In One overalls plus the best undershorts ive seen.

Uhlsport hasnt been done in NZ for about 5 years. The Head Office makes it difficult for a prospective agent to pick up the dealership due to the range they have to try and shift. Lets face it outside of keepers who else pays much attention to it as a brand.

In regards to whats available in NZ for next year,The Sells range is decent with about 8 Match gloves available - we will stock about 5 of them.
Umbro - 3 Match gloves
Lotto - 3 Match Gloves
Adidas - only 3 different Fingersave options, nothing else like Fingertips or Response
Nike - 2 Match Gloves
Puma - 2 Match Gloves

We've got some mega cheap deals on most of our 08 range of Gloves coming up. I'll let you know when that happens.

Look forward to hearing those deals. Was stoked today to see you have the new Nike Total 90 Confidence gloves in. $129.99 is a reasonable price too.

A teammate of mine has them. They keep him warm and clean. He looks like a janitor.

I would have thought an overall suit whilst handy for cleanliness and warmth would restrict movement? and lets be fair I hardly need any further hinderance of movement.

I do hope your team has 2 goalkeepers...an outfield player with a pair of the overalls would really worry me...

That said, maybe they are going to be the new club scene rage...?

Trained in overalls once, not that comfortable imo and looked like a bit of a twat.

Overalls - Declan Edge, Melville United 2003. Piss. Took. Lots.
But, he was warm.

Paston - last night, amazing. Caught the ball heaps.
HUGE effort to come in after a year in the cold.

Moss is cool, don't get me wrong...but he wouldn't have got a few of those.
He would've stayed on his line, and pulled off a full-stretch fingertip save.

Question, determining your value as a human-being = which is better? (save/catch)
Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Oh hi bro.

Agreed. Paston was immense and he is much more assured in the air than Moss.

Can you please clarify your question? I assume you mean which is better out of catching a cross or making a save? I guess it depends on the type of person you are (relating to your prior determination of our value as human beings). Saves make everyone think "Hey bro, that was a really great fantastic thing you did. Can I high five you?". Catching a cross whilst under pressure from opposing players (arguably much more difficult than making a save from a shot) is not always appreciated by everyone but instills a sense of confidence and self worth that makes you feel really nice inside.

In MY opinion, I would prefer to be able to confidently challenge and catch all crosses than HAVE to do the spectacular.

As Plato once said, "Beauty of style and harmony and grace and good rhythm depend on simplicity".

Every goal keeper seems to be brilliant before they go to Spurs. Happened to Robinson and now to Gomes..I heard more than once that Gomes was arguably best keeper in the world. I don't think he's automatically become rubbish, its just that its a lot more obvious when a keeper stuffs up than when an outfielder does, and he wouldn't be the only Spurs player to be screwing up right now, basically.

I had a kick around today and I used some rubber gardening gloves as goalie gloves and I must say they were the best set of gloves I've ever played in! I'm not sure how they'll do when its wet but can't be beat in the dry.

How's the leg cuz?

Junior teams in Gisborne are generally provided with kiwifruit-picking gloves for those that don't have a 'specialist'.

I didn't notice whether Gomes was in for Spurs today...only saw highlights but

No actually went pretty well, kept a clean sheet and we're through to the third round.  Great over here, every team plays in a league and two cups competitions (from 1st teams right down to 9th and vest).  Managed to make a few decent saves as well as a one - on -one  so looks like I've been handed the gloves for  the season!  Main issue, it is absolutely freezing back there!  Need a new jersey or something to keep me warm (it was about 5 degrees)

Question for you keepers, would you rather a quiet match where you don't have to do much meaning your defence has done well or have to do loads with the possibility of conceding goals??
