i was just wondering whats the situation at most clubs for goalkeeping coaches? currently playing for varsity 1sts and i had a guy who had play semi-pro in England for the first 6 weeks and it made a big difference, especially for a young guy like myself. do most clubs have coaches or is it just down to the senior goalkeeper

one or two clubs have gk coaches but not alot, the best thing is to get some one for 1 or 2 trainings and run thru a heap of drills for you to do depending on what you need to work on. then have a constant player/manager at your team training going through them with you.

i would be more than happy to come up and have a session with you, as i am doing alot of junior gk training atm

Only seems the top few have one down here...and, across New Zealand.

Actually - there is no consistency. We didn't even have one at Central last year.

So yeah, usually the 'senior'/most-motivated 'keeper does it.
It's definitely not rocket science though.

If enough of us are keen, and we can get a ground - why don't we do some 'keeper sessions on...Wednesdays?

Dale?
Nick?
DKP (...of course you do, my colleague)

4's enough - but, can never have too many.

Unless there was like, 100 - then we'd probably need two grounds.

Have just sorted a ground and gear for special gk trainingwill post new topic

You should read the previous posts to get the context of the message. A GK was complaining he was getting fouled.I mentioned he needed to get a bit of justice becasue the ref wasn't helping him. I didn't mean it as GK advice, it more a way to get even.

P.S. I know we shouldn't foul outfield players intentionally but when they are doing it to us, I for one am not going to just stand there and take it!

BU%$^&IT we shouldn't intentionally foul outfield players.as you said you should read the above posts.

1) the play is not around us very often so when it is it is harder for a ref to make a decent descion.

2) out field players target gk's

3) make a point of having a go at someone (an opposition outfield player) as early as poss to stop them even thinking about cumming near you!

The whole point of this post s for gk's to post a problem or a question! then other gk's can respond or answer. not for any other people/players to post any crap or any gk's to post s%*t

I agree. A goalkeeper should not intentionally foul and outfield player. As a keeper you need to expect that at times you will be targeted it is called gamesmanship or something like that. Last weekend against IBay I went up for a ball and got smacked square in the kidneys and although I was Pissed off at the time I did not try and get even, and it was left on the field. Still a bit sore, but at my age you get that.

Couldn't have been as bad as Jim Bannatyne's day:

Gets caught gardening outside his box and is beaten from 40 yards by Jimmy Haidakis.

Gives away indirect free kick for picking up a back pass.

Almost gets sent for calling referee a muppet.

Genius.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Sounds like your describing a lot of strikers .  I have played with and against him.  I haven't coped any excessive abuse from him but that might be because we played rep together for a number of years.

Our game was one of the most intense games I have played in considering the importance and closeness of the game.  Bloody enjoyed it.

Question for goalkeepers regarding place kicks. What technique and approach do you use in taking goal kicks etc?

Whack the f**k out of it.

you have to love outfielders, cant knock a 10 metre pass to feet but expect a 40-50 metre goal kick on their chest

Fair call steelo. It's almost as if sometimes they expect you to run up the field and control it for them too.

Three for me, and two for them.

From what I've seen heard, most midfielders would ratehr I could just walk out and hand the ball to them, I'm yet to see a striker control the ball on his chest effectively.

how many techniques are there?  I can only think of two: Laces or the side of you big toe area.

Yea those are the two I have been varying on. My kicking just seems to go downhill once the pitches get well soft.

Guess it doesn't help playing on Shark Park.

I'm a bit the same.  WHen pitch gets softer my planting foot tends to slip (or sink in) a lot more and therefore fairly average kicking.  I always lace it.  It tends to go straighter than curl left.

New topic:  Cleaning gloves.

What is your process.  I heard a couple of ways to do it.

Take them in the shower, rub out the dirt on them, run water through them until water is clear, lightly squeeze excess water out, then wrap them up in a handtowel.

rinse, drain, air dry! repeat each week.

what about the dirt?
Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

When I ordered my gloves from overseas I also purchased some glove cleaning liquid.  I can only assume it is some type of detergent. So I put some of that in warm water.  Chuck my gloves in there for 5 minutes to soak.  Then grab one of those yellow bench cloths to gently rub the palm of glove.  Sponge the tip of the finger to stop any more tearing of foam.  Then put them on top of a towel to dry out over the week.

I was once told by Mr. Football Mum to soak gloves in detergent overnight.  Then sponge any excess dirt off. Never really tried that though.

Question, how many pairs of gloves do you all buy per season? Is having one match pair and a cheap or old pair for training suffice or do you buy two pairs of match quality gloves?
Permalink Permalink

1 for games and 1 for training does the trick for me.

Three for me, and two for them.

Fair enough. Just curious as the website I purchase my gloves off has 2 for 1 deals which I am wondering are worth it.

i buy a cheap pari for practive.  Use my last years match gloves for warmups and buy a new pair for matches.  They last way longer now that i don't warm up in them.

Horror day for me yesterday. 1-0 down after 10 mins then i went and fractured my leg when i collided with an opposition striker in a 1 on 1. Season ending. Gutted.

Three for me, and two for them.

Shepherds Park at 2.55pm. I have written that down many times in the past 24 hours on various forms.

I can barely move its in a full leg cast and stings when i move it but is relatively fine when still. On crutches obviously until Thurs when i go back in to hospital and they decide whether to keep it in a cast or operate.
