Celtic have been very busy in the transfer window. Be interesting to see how they go for the rest of the season. Imagine if Boro and WBA were promoted, 3 NZers in the premiership!

Maybe he figures he won't be getting a game at a higher level than he wasn't getting a game at with Celtic

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Jimbo - I think it was mentioned a bit earlier in the thread that Killen's management asked that same question of Strachan when he signed him (why are you signing him when you never played him) and obviously got a satsfactory answer.  Interesting to know whether the McDonald signing was mentioned in that conversation!

Well at least Killen is getting plenty of game time. Not sure how long that will last though, it is one thing wanting to get on the field, it is another to perform well enough to maintain your selection.

On his day Killen can score some great goals and is a well rounded striker. Unfortunately he is not having any luck in front of goal for Middlesbrgh. He has missed some game winning goals and has had half a dozen chances...you got to take some of those. He seems to be skying all of his shots 10 feet over the cross bar, when he is only 10ft from the goal...maybe he needs to change his boots.

Come on Killen. Fingers crossed for your next game.

Hope Killen plays 2nite..looks like it might be 5-0-5 as we have no midfielders....injured or sold.

Could he play midfield if required?  As long as he's on the park I'm happy.

Who they playing?

Hopefully he doesn't play, they play awful, McDonald scores three own goals, and Killen goes on to play the rest of the season.

From teamtalk "

The sale of 12-goal winger Adam Johnson to Manchester City coupled with several players absent through injury and suspension saw Strachan start the game with three centre-halves and three full-backs.

It was immediately evident that players were playing out of position by the start they made to the game.

Chris Killen got an acrobatic effort on target on the half-hour mark but it was a routine save for Arran Lee-Barrett.

Miller fired over the crossbar five minutes into the second half and Killen forced a fine save from Lee-Barrett when his shot inside the area was tipped around a post".

played 81 minutes this morning in 1-1 draw.  Good sign that he kept this starting spot.

Sounds like he had a better game.

McDonald didnt play. Whats the chance of McDonald-Killen being the preferred striking partnership? Is Killen better than Miller does anyone know?
Permalink Permalink

Miller is a pretty good goal scorer. Killen will need to play well while he has his chances to avoid being stuck on the bench.

A bit weird that Strachan signed Killen when Strachan never really picked Killen for Celtic. A plus of this is that Strachan has obviously seen enough to rate him. Though back then he obviously rated McDonald higher.

McDonald was banging in the goals for Celtic week in week out. Killen never did when he got game time. McDonald is better at finding the back of the net, no questions asked. Killen has other attributes as an overall striker that might be better than McDonald....but it always seems to come down to goals when it comes to rating a striker.

If we build it, they will come...

sounds like Killen went ok on the weekend. had a header cleared off the line that would have won the game. he needs those kind of breaks to go his way at the mo.

Finished 2-1 so Im happy and Killen scored which is good for him and AWs.  We are still way off 6th playoff place tho.

From the horses mouth...would eb good to keep him scoring if Smeltz doesnt regain his bearings and same for Fallon.

Middlesbrough striker Chris Killen was a relieved man after finally opening his account for his new club and he is determined to kick on

The 28-year-old New Zealand international put the Teessiders on the way to a 2-1 Championship victory over Barnsley on Wednesday night in his sixth appearance since moving from Celtic.

Killen said: "It's obviously nice to get off the mark - your first goal for a club is the one you want to get as soon as possible.

"For me, it has taken a bit longer than I would have wanted, but it's there now and let's hopefully push on.

"I have missed a few chances along the way - I was a bit disappointed with the first effort against Barnsley, I probably should have scored that as well.

"It's something I need to work on and make sure I put right and score a few more in the future."

killen hamstring injury (not serious i dont think). sat out this morning's game v perterborough at stadium of light. Boro won 1 nil, no goals for the other strikers against the league's bottom placed team so he may be back in line up next week.

Boro 2-0 QPR.

Killen played the full 90 and got a yellow card.  Both goals were penalties so kind of sucks Killen didn't take one.

According to the Boro site, Killen stepped forward to take the penalty but lost the argument to Barry Robson. ... Bugger, would have been nice to get a couple of penalty goals to get Killen some confidence and a bit of respectability in his goals vs games stats.

latest from Strachan who is picking Killen to return to full fitness soon.

The 28-year-old New Zealand international put together a run of six successive appearances for his new club before being sidelined by a hamstring injury and then a virus.

He returned in Saturday's 2-0 Championship victory over QPR and Strachan is looking for big things from him during the remaining weeks of the campaign.

The Scot said: "It's been about two-and-a-half-years since Chris played six games in a row because of injuries and what have you.

"He had a great goalscoring record at Hibs but he went to Celtic and picked up injuries.

"He came to Celtic after he had a cruciate ligament injury and it took him a wee while to get back to full fitness."
