a bit more info here ... sky sports reckons its a 2 year deal, "lucrative" and that he is a marquee player
terrible move by Killen if its true
He may have found himself without too many options...

I guess if this is true, this means that in a couple of years, if he still got it, Killen looks likely to wear the black and gold.
Thats my thinking too.
i dont like the move, but I guess this gives him 2 years earning the cash then come back to wellywood to play for us?? Wouldn't mind that

Is it any worse then what Europeans think about playing in Aussie/NZ?

Quite. He just isn't that good.
Agreed..he didnt exactly set the world on fire at Boro (missed too many he should have converted) so would struggle to get a regular place in a Championship team IMHO...so continuing to play for 2 years and getting good money in a "exotic" league where his attributes should help him is good thinking.
And its not as bad as 400km south of Beijing....
A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

It just annoys me the CSL isn't on fifa. An overseas club with two All Whites is very cool.

This - better China then sitting on your arse on a couch somewhere in England.

Went to Shenzen on a day trip from Hong Kong..1 hours ferry or 45 mins on train so close to shopping for Mrs K. Very modern city from what I saw..nice parks, shopping areas and hotels. Ratio of 7 women to one guy apparentl;y..grew from nothing in 20 years to like 11m pop I recall. Handy to Macau etc...Could be fun for a couple of years.
Guangzhou is nice too...and yeh- if you want a foreinger fix Hong Kong is easy to get too...even watch a Bledisloe!

Would've preferred to see him either go to a stronger league or come home but I guess it's pretty hard to turn down the money coming out of China at the moment - something we'll see with Jade North's decision..

Why has no-one in the NZ media contacted Killen or his agent or his family or the club or someone and gotten a couple of quotes from someone? The reporting on this has been pathetic, the only source for the transfer has been the sky sports story in the UK. This is a good story, especially after the Smeltz saga

Nice start for his new team!
"Elsewhere in the CSL, Chris Coyne started but was substituted at half-time as Liaoning Whowin lost 2-1 to Shenzhen Ruby.
The winning goal in the contest came on 80 minutes, from Shenzhen's new All Whites signing Chris Killen.
The New Zealand international, on as a second-half sub, showed lovely control with his chest before producing a beautiful volleyed finish for the winner."

Hopefully he scores a truckload this season and performs well enough to head back to Europe

That's awesome. Ivan gets kicked in the nuts at about 1:20.
How many overseas players are they allowed in the CSL? Seems like a lot.
