From goal

http://www.goal.com/en-au/news/4019/transfer-zone/2014/08/04/5003031/honved-leak-mariners-coup

The former Hungarian champions claim to be sending one of their midfielders to the A-League, and Phil Moss admits he's on the radar of the Gosford club

Central Coast boss Phil Moss has confirmed he is interested in the acquiring the services of Hungarian midfielder Richard Vernes after Honved claimed he was set to join the A-League club on loan.

"He's certainly one we've been looking at," Mariners coach Phil Moss said on Monday.

"There are a few foreigners in our sights. We obviously signed Malick Mane, who's a Senegalese international and Richard Vernes is certainly one we've been looking at as well as a few others."

Hungarian outlet Nemzetisport have reported the temporary switch as a done deal, while parent club Honved have released a statement on their website claiming the midfielder is headed to Gosford.

Vernes, 22, began his youth career at Ferencvaros before joining Honved in 2007. He made his senior debut in 2010 and has gone on to tally 46 league appearances for the club, scoring nine goals.

The midfielder has represented Hungary at U-20 and U-21 level.

'Hopefully something will crystallize in the next few days," added Moss.

Also I could be wrong ...the last time was June 1974 ... so it could happen again ...

But way back on 23 July I posted..

Unofficial rumour ... but a reasonable source ... The Mariners believe they will win any legal fight ... however are holding off a tad and looking for a replacement ... if they can find one they will let him go ... if not they will enforce what they see as almost an open and shut case... the rumour is they may be close to finding his replacement ... on the basic better to have a player wanting to play rather than forced to play...

Pretty sure nobody plays for an U21 side aged 22.

A few people suggesting your new Senegalese striker could be a contender.

Apparently, yes.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

The more this drags on, the more I want us to dick the mariners when the season starts.

I feel like arbitration is just designed to drag this out until the mariners can sign a replacement player so they can release weemac and no dangerous precedents need be set.
I guess they are hoping to get a signing over the line by the end of week like that player they were linked to earlier in the week.

I think this sounds quite likely. Otherwise litigation is coming, thank god the PFA will fund it. I think the Phoenix would prefer a decision is simply made and would accept it either way. However from McGlincheys point of view, playing for the Mariners is almost untenable now and it would not be nice to leave him hanging.

Phoenix should drop there case as soon as the Mariners sign this new guy, push them over the salary cap.

You know, Welnix might be working with CCM on this and keeping their heads down while the Mariners tidy up the loose ends with this new signing. Otherwise you would think there would be more noise coming out of Wellington about how ludicrous the situation is. I am presuming if the Mariners sign this new guy, they can not keep McG as it will put them over the salary cap or they won't need him - so it keeps the A League family all nice and cosy while its worked out behind closed doors. All of this BS, wouldn't have been played out in public if that original leak on the FFA website didn't happen and now everyone is trying to resolve it wihout anyone looking like a pussy.

Do CCM have any import slots remaining assuming they are counting Wee Mac as one of their imports? If they are signing this Hungarian, I presume they have at least spot open.

Am I being cynical in thinking that the FFA are more focussed on the "All Stars" circus at the moment than resolving this issue?

I'm sure I can think of ways they could...Though FIFA might not like an association getting involved with bribes...wait a minute...

Jono, there is no corruption in FIFA. Sepp Blatter himself, investigated the accusations and reported back he found nothing. Apparently the brown envelope was empty, therefore no cases to answer.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

In the A-League you are allowed five import spots in the ACL 3 spots plus one player from the AFC...

Our imports are signed and in negotiations are, Malick Mane (Senegal), Nick Montgomery (Scotland), Kim Seung Yong (Korea), and Richard Vernes in negotiation (Hungary) and or Michael McGlinchey in the hands of FFA (New Zealand)

Storm holds both Australian and NZ passport and therefore my understanding does not count as an import.

If salary cap allows, and given FFA pay wages, we could sign both … and drop one import for ACL matches..

Well that’s my understanding anyway…
