Good night in Europe for Kiwis

Dyer with a double in a 2-2 draw

I wonder how far away he is from the NZ squad and having a look in.

LOI not a great league - but we have picked from there before.

Well he ain't scoring tap ins. Obviously down in the LOI you get more space and time than higher leagues. I mean it isn't great keeping for the first one.

But hey he's scoring goals, which is more than say Waine is doing. Bazeley will be watching him, and is always a chance new dad Wood will bypass the June games in Toronto.

Dyer just needs to keep scoring bangers, and the door may open for a recall.
5 goals in 10 LOI games (761 mins) is impressive.

Galway stay 5th.

I didn't think I'd ever say this, but I would argue that Ben Waine and maybe even Max Mata (who was consistently very good at LOI level) will be looking over their shoulders.

Probably still a bit of credit in the bank for Waine and Mata yet, but if Dyer keeps scoring and performing as he is, then you're right, players have been picked out from that level.

Uncertain club future for both Waine and Mata too. Waine not even making League One squads at Mansfield and heading into a club option at the end of this current season - Plymouth staring relegation to League One squarely in the face too.

Mata is only on loan at Auckland, with one year remaining on his Shrewsbury deal. Shrewsbury already relegated to League Two for 25/26. So it remains to be seen if he's recalled, if he has a relegation release clause, or if Auckland pay a transfer fee.

Both good finishes.

Wouldn’t mind the nix trying to get this signature 😂

Niche Cache. Note Aidan Keena like Mata was signed by a L1 club (Cheltenham) from Sligo. He's now back in the LOI with St Patrick's Athletic.

Sounds like Dyer is scoring his goals in a team (Galway) that doesn't usually have much possession. Making his feats so far all the more impressive.

Geez, he’s (Dyer) scored some fine goals since moving to Ireland. He used to score a lot of goals in Canada too but a chunk of those were tap-ins and penalties. They all count the same so no dramas... but it’s fascinating to see a different version of Moses Dyer tearing up for Galway United. His brace away against Shelbourne came in the form of two equalisers, helping his team earn an unlikely point from a 2-2 draw in a match where they allowed 32 shots and kept only 24% of possession (although they did still have numerous chances of their own in a frantic game of footy).

Dyer has scored five goals in ten matches since moving to Ireland. Galway had a brilliant start though two defeats from three prior to this fixture dropped them down to fifth out of ten teams. All the more reason why Dyer’s wonderful brace was so important. Five goals puts him in a tie for the top scorer’s honours as things stand, alongside: Aidan Keena, Michael Duffy, Owen Elding, and Warren Davis. Five blokes on five. Seems like Dyer is picking up where Max Mata left off, ensuring that a kiwi flag flies in the Irish golden boot race.

Must say I do love the one-eyed passion these club affiliated LOI commentators bring to the table. When the opposition scores it almost sounds like they're describing a funeral procession. 😂

Another double for Dyer this morning though as they come from 1-0 down to snatch a 2-1 victory.

Not the bangers of previous weeks, but he’s certainly saying to Bazeley pick me

Scoring loads and looks good, but who would he replace in the squad? Rogerson etc? Kosta?

Waine.

If we're still going on the Bazeley theory that you have to be playing to make the squad that is.

Hard to argue with a hatful of goals in a league that very frequently gets visited by League One and League Two clubs.
26 Apr 02:28
Yep I'd like to see Dyer in white ahead of Waine or Mata right now
26 Apr 02:32
I’d like to see waine or dyer in yellow and black

Only flaw in this logic is Mata was top goal scorer in that league too.

I'd also expect Waine to bag loads if he got game time there too.

It's a lower level than the A league. A small semi pro league.

He should come back to the a league for the phoenix if he wants to fight for a world cup spot.

Mata forced his way into the AFC team this year and made them better. He hasn’t retained it for the full season, but they were struggling to score early without him.

Pijnaker too has looked good in the A league from the LoI.

Dyer has done some hard yards in Canada and the US and he looks the most athletic he’s ever been.

Remember too some players struggle in the A league- Simon Elliot was one iirc.

I think either of Waine or Dyer would improve our squad. They should both be pushing to start. Both can play 9 or out wide, or off the shoulder.

Either could take pressure off Kosta.

Niche Cache. Dyer to Blackburn Rovers. Duff make it happen!

I am joking of course, but then again late bloomers happen in football. Just ask Jamie Vardy. Waine's team mate at Mansfield Lee Gregory another. He was 26 when he debuted for Millwall in The Championship, that's after kicking around English 5th-6th tier football. He did score 30 goals for Halifax in the National League season before moving to The Den. Dyer is 28.

"This was Shelbourne FC manager Damien Duff speaking about Moses Dyer after the kiwi forward scored twice to haul Galway United back to a 2-2 draw against his team...

Of course we have our meetings but you don’t need me to highlight one of the top, if not the top, strikers in the league. Unless you’re hid under a rock. So yeah we knew he was a threat. And two goals again for him today.”

Duffman earned over 100 international caps for the Republic of Ireland and nearly 400 times in the English Premier League so we’d better listen to him when he says that Moses Dyer might be the top striker in the League of Ireland. It’d be rude not to. Especially since that claim has only gained in evidence since he spoke it, what with Moses Dyer scoring another brace a week later to lead Galway United to a comeback win against league leaders Drogheda United...

If you’re wondering what it would take to get Dyer into All Whites contention, there’s a precedent for picking players out of this league thanks to Max Mata and Nando Pijnaker. Those two were amongst the very best players in their positions across the League of Ireland but right now so is Moses Dyer – and he’s got an Irish legend’s testimony to prove it. What’s more, Max Mata’s best season in Ireland saw him score 11 times from 23 games (leaving midseason to join Shrewsbury Town in England) and Dyer’s (7 goals so far) on pace to clear that sooner rather than later.

That doesn’t make him a shoe-in... but it should get him into the conversation if he’s still doing this in a couple of months when Darren Bazeley next picks his squad. Even back in Canada, Dyer was talking about his desire to earn an All Whites recall. He’s motivated. That’s for sure."

Not this time. Dyer full game in a 2-0 loss to St Pats
05 May 21:29
Scores again as Galway lose 1-2
05 May 23:03
Think he deserves a spot in one of the next squads. Just to see if he can bring a different dimension to our attack.
05 May 23:48
Well he's scoring goals, so he's gotta be 100% in Bazeley's thoughts.

Note Galway from afar seem pretty limited, usually with low possession stats so he's scoring for a team not creating a huge number of chances.

06 May 03:22
Shocking that the defence of the opposition team was so, so, so deep for a through ball. The Galway midfielder has all the time to control the ball (from the through in), set it up then make a cross into the box WITHOUT any, ANY opposition defender closing him/space down. What did they think was going to happen? Galway was going to play tiki taka. I will take the A-league any day.

No criticism on Dyer. Well done mate. Keep going.

09 May 01:20
He looks the most athletic I’ve seen him too. As you say connections with the game over the water and potentially some good conditioning work gone in too. Or in the USL before he left there?

09 May 02:02 · edited 09 May 02:05 · History
He was in Canada last year. Over 2 clubs Vancouver FC and Pacific (loan deal) he got 8 goals in 24 games.

He looked bulked then, and often muscled/bull dozed his way to goal. Not that much finesse. But even in Canada he looked to have great hang time for heading in a goal.

I think in Ireland he's just highly motivated. Niche Cache has touched on it. More visible the LOI than CPL. He knows with a big season he can push himself into the World Cup mix. And yeah maybe get himself a gig in L1/L2. At age 28 it's now or never. No point to die wondering what if.

Also looks like Galway may play a pretty direct long ball game that likely suits him. How would he goes with a team has more possession, and requires some quick ball movement?? All he can do is keep scoring and leave the video analysis assessment stuff up to Baze & Co.

09 May 03:24
He looks good in the clips. The phoenix should definitely have a look at him
09 May 03:30
That last part coochiee... I'm with you. I'm sure Baze will give players like Dyer a run to see if they can offer the All Whites squad something different. The thing is I don't think he can.

Can Dyer play with his back to goal and bring in the midfield into play? Can he adapt to a possession game that will be crucial at the WC? What he offers is something that the squad already possess and are better at doing it. Happy to be wrong.

Finally from the LOI to the WC is a really big jump. Listen to yourselves, we all hoping he can make a jump to L2/L1 next season, but that's still a far off from a 1st division league in Europe. European 1st division clubs will be snapping at the heels to sign a striker that proves himself in the AFL. If Dyer want to prove he can do it, he should come back to the AFL and prove it
09 May 04:24 · edited 09 May 04:54 · History
AFL? I take it you mean ALM?

Not sure Bazeley will give Dyer a run. Dazza is proving to be very loyal to his AW incumbents, though Waine may have been dropped in March if Mata was fit. To be honest the whole stability in selection thing ain't a bad idea, given it's always very limited mins together in each window for the national team

Still Baze will be poring over the club footage each week looking at fringe contenders as any international coach should be. You have to have plans because it's highly likely come June next year somone will be injured and ruled out. That's always the cruel twist of 4 yearly WCs.

Wood may give the June games in Toronto a miss. More likely that happens if yes Forest qualify for Europe. He missed the Nations Cup and Olympics last year (part of that was getting married), but no coincedence that with a proper break and pre season in Nottingham, he's had a great EPL campaign. He's also a new dad.

If he does give Ukraine & Ivory Coast a miss (and he may not as he loves the AWs), then yeah definitely Moses is in the mix for a recall.

I remember being in Galway at night with a bunch of other backpackers on some 5 day Eire tour (Paddys hop on, hop off?). A bunch of young locals (looked like uni students) saw us, and one yelled out "Tourists" and then they proceeded to lay on the thick agents like they were in an episode of Father Ted. Humourous. Seemed a fun town

Delaney's Duds @DelaneysDuds
Just not true at all.
There's no one in Galway even out of bed before midday

Galway's form fading away (4 consecutive losses), and the goals drying up a little for Dyer. He has a full game in a 0-1 loss. Two scoreless matches in a row!

No OVH for Sligo, who get only their 3rd win in 16 matches. They remain last.
