Shane Smeltz (Guiseley AFC | England)

Over the years Ive learnt to not let paper speculation get my hopes up about transfers but Smeltzy's move is still slightly disappointing when you hear him being linked to Fulham, Turkey and the Bundesliga. Is the Chinese Super League currently in progress because I notice he has his 1st game in a few days.

The Chinese Super League is pretty dodgy in terms of match fixing and general corruption. The money will be good for Shane but it's not a league I would want my name associated with.

I doubt that he needed a good performance at the World Cup to cement this move. He could have done it purely on his A League form.

yeah, but the WC and the Serbia goal might have brought some additional bidders into the fray and strengthened Smeltz negotiation position

I can hate on gold Coast without feeling a little bit guilty now.

In all fairness the Shendong Luneng squad looks pretty decent. Especially the dutch fellow on loan from FC Twente. Hope they put the CSL on FIFA11!

Would there be anything that'd mean he'd have to go back to Gold Coast, or can any any A-League side take him? So soon after leaving, if it is true.

It's not a good look for Smeltz. I'm not sure what is plans are, but following this teams are not going to be very confident negotiating with him if he is just going to back out after a week or so.
