Dirty bloody aussies.Cant wait for the AWs to play them again
It was a disgrace the boutsianis was able to be registered by another club that season

I have huge admiration for Smeltz as a footballer but he must be dumber than a sack of wet mice!!!! FFS.....what do you expect if you go to China? Duh! try billions of Chinese people speaking Chinese, eating Chinese food and living in Chinese houses!
Mrs Smeltz has done the " Shane! I can't live here....take me home!....Right Now!!!!!"
Well here's some news for you mrs Smeltz. In 15 years time Shaney boy will be just another broken arse footballer with a beer gut. He will probably be pumping gas at some service station while she's on his case about not keeping her in the manner she expects. Hope he then has the caljones to tell her..." um!....we actually turned down $2 million for two years in China."
How many of the millions of footballers in the world get one shot at the big money.....and walk away from it because they have to live somewhere that is not to their liking. Unbelievable!!!!!!

I think that's a bit harsh. It's very very difficult to perform on the pitch if you and your family aren't happy off it. I say wait until we hear the full story. Not sure why he signed there in the first place though (aside from the obvious - cash)

should have waited the silly boy!!!
But hey if the Dirty Aussie's got away with it in '01 (ruining the Kingz while they were at it) so can he, and lets not for get that Shane is more Dirty Aussie then Dirty Kiwi

yeah altough I doubt such big clubs would be so slow after a great WC performance in trying to secure a player. I mean, c'mon, scoring vs Italy and playing 3 good games, surely means you will get some attention. If you're a decent club you'll get in touch straight away.
But who knows? I'd be so happy to see more kiwi's in the EPL. One good reason to watch EPL games.

There is always a solution.....
"Using his extensive contacts in China to ease the wheels of negotiation, iron ore billionaire Palmer, who has a home and offices in Beijing, is working to find an amicable resolution to a dispute which could land Smeltz with a two-year ban were Shandong to pursue the matter through world governing body FIFA."
How many bags of coal will it take??

Reckon he'll get a bigger transfer out of the UK ?

I guess if they really are sniffing, they know they have to pay 300 at least. Would he be worth more than that to a club?? I really dont know.

If Fallon and Killen can play Championship level then Smeltzy could easily slot into a Champ side. I'll bet his agent is mega annoyed....he won't get his cut out of the transfer deal to China now that Shane has walked.....mind you he could get a nice payday if Smeltz goes to England.

Would you employ someone who just ups and leaves without a bye your leave because his missus said she doesn't like the place? You could spend the same money and buy a simila rplayer that wants to be there. I wouldn't touch Smeltz with a barge pole now.

Unless your club was in the sun, at some form of beach, with a plethora of shopping opportunities for Mrs. Smeltz. Shane would sign for them in an instance!
Back to Gold Coast it seems.

As much as I hate them I would prefer him to sign with Sydney or Melbourne. I want Smeltz at the biggest club possible where he will still play reguarly. He's too good for the Gold Coast. I think he's got one more good year and if he can't pick up a contract in a decent league then that will be it. And being in a championship winning team would help his creditals.

What absolute nonsense. There won't be any service stations in 15 years, the oil will have run out.

So can anyone explain this to me? Still very unclear.
I'm speculating that his wife refused to leave Australia and he had to choose between his marriage or the transfer. That's the only thing I can think of.

I doubt that Shane will be going anywhere near the UK. There is a real good article in the Guardian football section about post WC transfers. Basically is says the days of someone coming out of nowhere and being signed after a good WC are over. The main reason is that there are so many football scouts around the globe working to find players and also so many agents offering players, that there are almost no "unknown players" left.
Scouts and agents would know all about the Smeltz's and Reids of the world. Their play in the WC would just reconfirm what they already knew. Smeltz is 29. He also has an average history in the UK. His efforts in the A-league would have been noted before the WC. His problem now is that having walked out on his Chinese contract there will be a big fat "trouble" stamp on his dossier.
With the exception of Winston Reid I am not surprised that any of the Aw's have not been signed to bigger clubs.

You are right Zinidane, he is still a Gold Coaster
TWO-time A-League Golden Boot Shane Smeltz has confirmed he will make his return for Gold Coast United in Sunday's pre-season friendly against North Queensland Fury at Carrara Stadium after the disintegration of his short-lived move to Chinese outfit Shandong Luneng.
''I am happy to be back involved and just looking ahead to doing what I do best, which is score goals,'' he said.
United CEO Clive Mensink insisted: ''There is no dispute with Shandong. 'We have retained Shane's international transfer certificate and we don't believe there are any ongoing issues. We have the support of the FFA in this.''

Any chance Smeltz might of had of going to a decent European league has just vanished.
Silly silly boy.

you are all commenting on 'assumptions'.......none of this stuff is factual. Smeltz must have smellt a rat, nobody in their right mind would walk away from a 'big payday'. Think about it. He said there were issues, none of us were there. it will all come out in the wash, stop the bagging, he was great for the Phoenix and IS great for NZ Football, he helped put us on the map!!
The way this site bags him, its no wonder he lives in OZ. I think he has been a fantastic role model for NZ Football, he has earnt respect, about time he got some!

1. That's an assumption
2. smelled
3. Cast you mind back to the end of the 2nd season - that's why he gets bagged.
