From Niche Cache. Some possibly good news there for Bindon & Stamenic, that even though Forest are confirmed as being in Europe next season, they can't go out and buy in many new players.

And with that the Tyler Bindon x Reading FC connection comes to a conclusion allowing the Nottingham Forest connection to soon begin. With Nottingham Forest having qualified for Europe there’s even more chance of Bindon (and perhaps even Marko Stamenic) sticking around with the first team as they’ll need an extended squad and financial fair play restrictions won’t allow them to do much expensive outside recruitment.

There was a profile on Bindon
published on The Athletic this week in which it’s stated that: “No decision has been taken about where he will be next season. He’ll report to Forest for pre-season training, and they will take a view on whether he stays with the first team, or goes out on loan”. Marko Stamenic has previously said the same thing about his situation. They’ll all be reporting to preseason training and from there we shall see how the cards fall.

I think Stamenic actually has a stronger chance to be a squad player for Forest next season out of the two of them. That plus the midfield of Forest has been a bit suspect at times this season.

With the likes of Anderson, Yates, Sangere and Dominguez occupying those deeper roles I think besides Anderson, Stamenic is more than capable of being able to mix it with the other 3.

The Olympiacos loan didn’t work out but I think he’s definitely capable of stepping up in the right system. He’s been unfortunate the last few years that he’s been thrown into the 6 role for quite high profile sides which is not his strongest suit.

For Bindon he’s so good but there’s a long way to go. I hope he gets loaned out to a championship team but he’s still very raw. Which is also exciting given how good he is already.

https://www.friendsoffootballnz.com/2025/06/29/all-whites-defender-tyler-bindon-linked-with-loan-move-to-championship-side/

UK media reports are linking Bindon with a potential loan move to Sheffield United, where he would be reunited with recently appointed manager Ruben Selles, who worked with the New Zealander at Reading.

Selles was the manager of Reading when Bindon joined the club in 2023, moving from Los Angeles FC.

Selles left Reading for Hull City but has taken over at Sheffield United after the Yorkshire club missed promotion to the EPL, losing a promotion play-off final 2-1 to Sunderland.

Bindon is a Blade (for 25/26 at least).

04 Jul 21:24
Thought he might of got a crack at Forest with them having to deal with Europe as well. Good step up though regardless.

Good move, nice and early done, which will mean he will have a proper preseason with his new club and therefore has a decent crack at making the starting team from day one.

On the Blades forum, the reception is positive.

The only concern from a few is that to them he talks too posh for their club!!

Auckland will rise once more

05 Jul 00:34
Well that rules out Nik Tzanev signing for the Blades. He speaks proper posh and lists European skiing as one of his hobbies.

Bindon is more a mangled softly spoken Kiwi/US accent.

Sheffield U fans will love him soon enough, once they see how fearless, tough as teak and skilled he is.

Top move for him. Always great if you can reunite with a former coach who knows the qualities you bring.

From Sky Sport UK:
Sheffield United have signed Nottingham Forestcentre-back Tyler Bindon on a season-long loan.
Bindon, 20, worked with new Blades boss Ruben Selles at Reading, where he made 47 appearances during the 2024/25 campaign.

Played the 2nd half in two friendly wins over the last week
6-2 over York City
5-0 over Rotherham

Brief mention in match report
The last action was a Rotherham opportunity but a last-ditch tackle from Bindon denied Nombe, protecting a clean sheet.

Blades played Nice and Fulham in France to finish preseason. Sounds like Bindon travelled there with some sort of injury.

Anel Ahmedhodzic - has gone to the Eredivisie - more likely means Tyler will start when fit

Of the 3 Kiwis in The Championship does seem like he's the most likely to be an immediate starter.

Bindon starts for the blades.

I am so keen to see how this lad goes at Championship level. A cut above in League One, but the intensity ramps up several notches at this level.

Go well lad. 👊

Unfortunately the blades get spanked 4-1 at home.

Bindon plays 90 while his CB partner is dragged before the hour mark

Tyler could and should have done better in the first goal. Was out of position (ball watching) and then got turned inside out.

I think his athleticism and technical ability undoubtedly got him here so quickly and in lower leagues can make up for a lapse here and there. Not so in this league.

Great for him to start and hell be better for it.

Certainly a steep learning curve for him, and not the best game I’ve seen him play, but I think he will adjust and bounce back very quick

I hope so, he had a shocker.

Niche Cache. Perhaps Sheffield U should try to buy Surman quick sharp from Portland. Sounds like they need a fit quality CB to partner Bindon

Tyler Bindon’s on loan at Sheffield United and the initial feeling was that he’d have to bide his time behind incumbent centre-backs Anel Ahmedhodzic and Jack Robinson. But the Blades they sold Ahmedhodzic to Feyenoord less than a week before their first game and there was a further shock to come when the line-up was announced for the Bristol City game and Robinson wasn’t there either. Instead left-back specialist Rhys Norrington-Davies partnered Bindon through the middle (with Bindon on the right side... having usually played LCB for Reading). Robinson has been heavily linked with a move to Wrexham (swapping one kiwi teammate for another) but manager Ruben Selles insisted it was fitness reasons why he didn’t start.

Well, that backfired. At home against a team that they beat by a 6-0 aggregate score in the playoff semis last term, Sheffield United were pumped 4-1. They fell behind to a magical direct free kick inside of five minutes though were able to level up via Tyrese Campbell pretty soon afterwards (14’). But they conceded again after 26 mins and then twice more in the early stages of the second half. Bindon was unable to halt move for the second goal while the last two both happened after misplaced Norrington-Davies passes. Goal four took a big deflection off Bindon for not-so-good measure. Selles soon hauled off RND to chuck Robinson on but the damage had been done. 4-1 to Bristol City.

Depending where you look, you might see some “Tyler Bindon Nightmare Debut” clickbait. That’s all nonsense. He was a 20yo centre-back in a dysfunctional defence who hasn’t previously played above League One and he made seven clearances, a couple of tackles, and completed 80/86 passes. He’s trying to adjust to the rise in levels yet was asked to be the senior man in that defence on debut. It was a shambolic team performance but Bindon was fine. Maybe if he gets to play with an actual centre-back next time he’ll be more than fine.
However you wanna dice things, playing a left-back through the middle in week one is a ridiculous bit of transfer mismanagement.

A tough watch, a few fans blaming Bindon for a own goal as the goal that sealed the deal for Birmingham came from a Bindon deflection. In saying that, the blades could not link more than 3 passes without losing possession. They didn't even look like the were going to score let alone get a shot off. Their goal came from nothing when Harmer wanted to try a shoot from half way and caught the keeper napping.

After the 4-1 loss and this 2-0 loss it could be a tough season.
14 Aug 01:57
The concern for Bindon will be that at this rate Rubén Sellés won't last long as gaffer. The Blades were unlucky not to get promoted last season. They have EPL ambitions. And of course it was Sellés who bought Bindon to Sheffield.

But Tyler B is plenty good enough to play at this level, just needs some time to adjust to a new club and the higher quality in The Championship

Bindon off at 81 mins (0-1). Hopefully just a tactical sub.

And a 1-0 loss. I think Sheffield United thought that they would cake walk this league this season but the opposite has happened. The good news is that Bindon should have met by now the legendary midfielder, Tony Currie. That would be something special for sure.

Niche Cache. Interesting times ahead for Bindon. Will be under some pressure to keep his starting spot, esp if Selles gets the sack

Meanwhile, the Championship signing in the most precarious position is probably the one who has played the most so far. Tyler Bindon has started all four games for Sheffield United but the Blades have lost each and every one of them to sit last at the international break. The latest was a 1-0 defeat away to Middlesbrough who have won 4/4, therefore that one isn’t so bad in isolation. But viewed with the rest of their form it’s absolutely shambolic for a team that made the playoff final last season.

This is a frisky situation for Bindon for two reasons. The first is that he was signed by manager Ruben Selles specifically because they’d previously worked together at Reading. If Selles gets sacked then Bindon’s biggest ally at the club would be gone. The other element is that Sheffield United left their transfer business so late that it’s only now that their squad is finally coming together.

Remember how Bindon started at CB alongside Rhys Norrington-Davies in the first game, a bloke who is usually a left-back? That was because they’d sold their main central defender, Anel Ahmedhodzic, and dropped the other one, Jack Robinson, in expectation of another transfer. Robinson was then recalled for the next two games.

Since then, Norrington-Davies has been loaned to QPR and Robinson has has joined Birmingham City while in their places
have come Ben Mee (Brentford), Japhet Tanganga (Millwall), and Nils Zätterström (Malmö) who are all centre-back specialists. Bindon’s got a completely new crew to compete with.

Tanganga was available for the Middlesbrough game hence it was he and Bindon who lined up – Bindon’s third CB partner in four Championship games. Zätterström was on the bench while Mee hadn’t yet been registered at that point. Bindon’s been okay thus far but has admittedly looked like what he is: a 20yo trying to make the step up to the Championship. Tanganga is six years older and has played in the Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur hence he had no such issues, serving up a brilliant debut performance.

We’ll have to observe how the dust settles because that could be a threat to Bindon’s playing time or it could be that Tanganga is exactly the type of commanding and reliable presence that he needs next to him in order to take the pressure off. Tanganga’s arrival also meant that Bindon moved from the right-sided CB across to the left where he’s played more regularly for NZ and Reading.

To be fair, it’s not the defence that’s been the problem for Sheffield United: they’ve lost their last three games 1-0.

Blades 2-0 down, no Bindon. Heard a bit of chatter that Selles might already have been a dead man walking going into this, and that Sheffield might have wanted to wait until after playing a promotion-favourite Ipswich side that's really starting to find form before they hand the reigns to a replacement manager. Time will tell I guess but wouldn't surprise me, Sheffield look awful.

A good one for Bindon to miss.

Who are Blades supporters going to scapegoat now?
12 Sep 21:11
Yeah, makes for grim reading having a look at what Blades fans have to say about Bindon over the past few weeks. Hopefully this will make them realise the issues are a lot deeper than just Tyler's performances.

In all fairness, I'm not surprised they're salty about him given how sharke the team is. For what it's worth, I know of a Barnsley fan who hates Sheffield who reckons that in those first games Bindon was practically a one man defence.

Well it's fair to say the writing was on the wall. You do have to wonder what this will mean for Bindon moving forward though.

Selles was clearly a fan, and a big reason on why he ended up at the Blades this season, but Bindon wont have that relationship to fall back on with a new gaffer coming in.

Chris Wilder coming back?

Tyler Bindon will be great as an overlapping centre back!
15 Sep 22:14
Confirmed Wilder, back for a third stint.

Likes a back three so hopefully a reasonable chance Bindon is one of the three.

Three for me, and two for them.

So to recap...
  • Tyler Bindon’s had an unconvincing start for a team that’s been going terribly.

  • He’s only on loan.

  • There’s lots of player instability around him due to all the late transfers.

  • And now the manager who brought him to the club has been given the flick after only five league games.

Chris Wilder has been hired to replace Selles as manager which will at least redress the absolute madness of sacking Wilder four months earlier after he came within quarter of an hour of earning promotion to the Premier League. In Bindon’s favour is that the other three CBs contending for starts (Tanganga, McGuinness, and Ben Mee) are also all new signings with Wilder’s preferred duo from last season, Robinson and Anel Ahmedhodzic, both having left the club.

There could be a scenario where he fights through and earns his stripes. There could also be a scenario where he doesn’t even get a chance and he’s back at Nottingham Forest in January looking for a new loan.
