So how is Boyd managing with the pre season over there?

He was involved in Os Vimaranenses' official launch this week but he hasn't been involved in any of the first team's pre-season friendlies. He will almost certainly be involved with the B side in Liga 2 this coming season and subsequently push for a place with the seniors in the Liga NOS. The new coach, Armando Evangelista, was the B team coach last season so he will be closely monitored and is at a superb club to develop.

I don't see much of Guimarães but did manage to dig out this short article on A Bola (the biggest football daily in Portugal) about his debut - a 2-1 loss to fellow Liga 2 side, Aves... http://www.abola.pt/nnh/ver.aspx?id=560843

Promising that Tyler scored on his debut for the reserves:

Desportivo das Aves

Triumph over Vitoria Guimaraes B (2-1)

07/18/2015

"The Desportivo das Aves, League 2, on Saturday beat the Vitoria Guimaraes B, of the same league, 2-1 in a pre-season match behind closed doors, in Guimarães Sports Complex. The New Zealander Tyler Boyd scored first for Vitoria Guimaraes B, but goals to Rafinha and Rui Li secured the win for the team coached by Abel Xavier. This is the second victory of Desportivo das Aves in the preseason."

The Segunda Divisão campaign got underway in Portugal last night but, for Tyler Boyd and Vitória Guimarães B, the season opened today. Santa Clara, a club from the Azores islands, visited the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques and left with all 3 points in a 1-0 win.

Boyd started the game for Guimarães but was replaced on 84 minutes by João Correia.

The team's next fixture is next Saturday when they travel to the capital, Lisbon, to take on Oriental (KO 17:00).

Very promising that he started in their first game. Hopefully he finds his feet and scores a couple of goals soon.

Vitória Guimarães travelled to the capital, Lisbon, yesterday to take on Oriental. A highly entertaining game finished 4-4 and Tyler Boyd kicked it all off with a goal on 5 minutes. Making a positive start to his career in Portugal - long may it continue.

Correct. Boyd substituted off on 59'.

Hopefully a stepping stone to cracking the 1st team.

However a croud size of 492 might just show where the Portugese 2nd tier league is at

It would be fair to say that the standard in Liga 2 is not the strongest around. Don't get me wrong, there are some very talented players and Boyd will improve his game technically, but it's not the strongest second tier.

Attendance sizes are a bit of a misnomer in Portugal, to be honest. For instance, you'd struggle to find too many well-supported clubs outside of the "big 3" - that is Benfica, Sporting and Porto. Clubs like Braga, Académica and the Vitória Guimarães first team get reasonable crouds but outside of those you're talking the lower 4 figures. I used to spend a lot of time watching UD Leiria in the top flight (they were relegated 3yrs ago). They only used to average around 1,000-1,500 for home games. The big 3 have a massive hold over most Portuguese fans nationwide.

If Boyd can progress and have a good year in the B team then there's no reason he shouldn't be playing for the Liga NOS side next season.

Reserve teams never get huge crouds. Even Real Madrid Castilla and Barcelona "B" fail to get more than a couple thousands

Tyler played the full 90 minutes today as Vitória Guimarães B were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Freamunde. With 3 games played and no wins on the board as yet, today's result leaves the side in 17th place in the 24-team division.

The side's next game is away to newly-promoted Famalicão who sit in 4th place. The game takes place this coming Wednesday (26th).

Vitória Guimarães B had a midweek game last night and drew 3-3 with Liga 2 newcomers, Famalicão. Boyd came on as a 69th minute sub.

A full 90 minutes for Tyler Boyd in today's 1-0 win for Guimarães B at home to Algarve side, Olhanense. No goals for the Kiwi but the side is now up to a healthier 16th position after its first league win of the season. The next game is in 2 weeks away to Leixões in Matosinhos.

Apologies for the tardy response on this. He has indeed scored in the league this season. It was against Oriental in the 2nd game of the season.

Wearing shades back to front during the game? New fashion? Won't catch on.

Was an unused sub today in a highly entertaining 3-3 draw at Liga 2 newcomers, Famalicão. The result leaves Guimarães B in 16th place with just 6 points from the opening 5 games.

Yes he has... since the 3-3 draw, the team has played 4 games, winning 1, drawing 2 and losing 1. Boyd has featured in every game -

31/8/15 Full 90 H 1-0 v Olhanense

13/9/15 Full 90 A 1-1 v Leixões

17/9/15 Sub on 72' H 0-0 v Atlético CP

21/9/15 Full 90 A 0-1 v Varzim

Quite pathetic the grudge held by (apparently) grown men towards a 20 year old kid.
