I don't agree. United need someone better than him to steer the ship from the back. T

I think some people underestimate what playing for United is. All United forums have basically laughed at the suggestion to sign Reid. No one at all wants him. If he played for us he would get castigated for letting RvP score a goal like that.

If we did need another defender, why would we go for Reid? Players like Vlaar, Inigo Martinez, Nicolas Otamendi or Joel Matip. All of those players would be good squadies, relatively easy to obtain and probably better than Reid.

Even if it was a good move for Man U, I can't see why it would be a good move for Reid.

We have plenty of CBs with his ability, granted most with less experience but we need one player to sure up the defense and it's not him IMO.

As opposed to the awesome defence who played so well last season and against Leicester 2 weeks ago? All I'm saying is that Man U's defence is currently rubbish and in my opinion Reid is a better player than most of the ones there at the moment. There are most definitely better defenders than Reid as well, but he sure as hell is better than Evans and Blackett, among others

Some of the utd forums are full of delusional idiots who think nobodys any good unless you pay 50 or 60 million pounds for them, the bottom line is with ffp rules now we are unlikely to be spending huge money on a defender in january unless we get money for,Nani,Hernandez,Cleverly and maybe a couple of others.Otamendi is being quoted around 40 million pounds,Im not sure hes that good,Vlaar is nearly 30 and likely to be overpriced being from an English club.Martinez looks a little on the short side to me but may be worth pursuing and you would have to convince Matip to give up champions league to come and then have him go straight to the African cup in january.Im not saying there arent better defenders out there than Reid but at least he knows the league, speaks the language, would be cheap and very rarely has international duty,if we can someone better then great but if not its worth considering at least, imo.

Hammers are 4th after being written off by so many in the friendlies here. LOL

I'm one million percent sure that every paper in this country has a Winston Reid linked to big club story saved for days when faff all else happens. Literally three a week. I'm sure it's all self-perpetuating as well. Everyone is reporting the rumour now and no one seems particularly sure where the rumour started.

Yeah ,it's all bs. He has been linked to Arsenal for about 2-3 years now with no actual solid links at all.

He's quite obviously just angling for a better contract at West Ham.

That's my impression too. I think this rumour has been started by NZ press and then the English press have picked up on it.

Hah. So no one, errr, clicked on the link then? With all due respect to Arsenal, I said a top 4 club.

As Hepatitis pointed out above, he's already at a top 4 club

Saying all that if he let his contract run down and there is no transfer fee, he would be a good piece of business for any premiership club

Been offered a "substantial" pay rise.

there were some stories about pressure being being on him to sign with an agent that represents Fat Sam and the majority of the players he has worked with on a number of occassions over the years - Nolan, O'Brien, Carroll, Jaaskelainen, etc.  Similar stories were out there about Ravel Morrison as well. Not sure if true, or if it is just the fact that Reid wants £60k, and the club (at this stage) do not want to pay it. With his contract up at the end of the season, he would be a decent cheap signing for someone in Jan.

Wonder if Downing still teases him about it? Playing Villa this weekend too.

This is one of the reasons I have no interest in the EPL. What a ludicrous amount of money for a football player.

It absolutely is out of whack. There people that play far more meaningful roles in society and yet Winston makes in a week what they make in a year....

Supply and demand etc.

There's enough money in the game to justify it. Is the same reason hollywood stars get more than brain surgeons..

This. It's a capitalism problem, not a football one.

indeed. People say "who can afford an EPL ticket" but something like 95% of EPL tickets have sold this season.

It is a ludicrous amount of money, the reality is there are plenty of footballers getting more than that!

Yeah, it's ok to treat fans as cash cows. *Insert obligatory Bundesliga link here*

It is rather sickening though, how much money is involved in sport. When it gets to the top levels it all become rather abstract, players like Rooney wanting 300k/week instead of 250k/week - that 50k/week is not going to make much if any difference to his quality of life but could be hugely beneficial to hundreds of families in the UK or probably thousands in poorer nations. What amount of good could be done if we valued other people as much as we value sport.

If players weren't paid so much ticket prices would be less so goes beyond supply and demand. Also the main revenue stream is surely TV rights so surely ticket prices can be subsidised.

Why should footballers be picked on for this though. What about the massively excessive amounts of money earned by bankers even when theycost everyday people their life savings through reckless business practices? What about executives and shareholders for electronics companies which use sweatshop labour and source rare earth metals for components from mines run by genocidal warlords in African conflict zones? Footballers might wear sweatshop made gear and endorse dodgy products but as far as unfair distribution of wealth goes they're small fry. At least football entertains people and lets them feel something special occassionally. I can think of a certain high profile kiwi who made his millions buying and selling foreign currencies - what benefit does that bring to most peoples lives? Who is happier because 4 million euros became 6 million greenbacks, other than the guy who took his cut from it?

Sorry, didn't mean to rant but I just think there's way bigger issues in the world than footballers salaries and it seems like an odd thing to get up in arms about
