Gareth called Sam Worthington a 'tosser' in his latest blog. Giggles.
It's become quite obvious that many of us hate what the Doom Post writes about the Phoenix, and it's been happening for quite a while so it's unlikely to stop. A full-blown war seems like the next logical step to take, and I welcome it.

Why would it do that Tegal? We all know that DP reports "without fear or favour" and are bastions of objective, balanced reporting.
Oh how I wish I re-subscribed all those years ago.

No he didn't. He called Paul Thompson a "tosser". He called Sam Worthington a "gossip columnist" and has previously called him a "low level knocker".
He's certainly not pulling any punches with the Dom Post at the moment. I tend to agree with his comments but it's probably not the best media strategy.

Two years ago , I had a work related issue that resulted in me having a significant issue with both the Doom and Stuff.co.nz. Misreported , mis quoted and bloody well lied about . When I was able to prove this , I at least had the courtesy of a formal apology and retraction from Stuff . Nothing at all from Doom. Fuckwits.
The issue with the media isn't generally bias (in this country), it's laziness and urge to make an exciting story where none exists.

This forum needs less angst and more Kate Bush threads

The Phoenix will not win a war with the Dom. End of. The Phoenix need the Dom much more than the Dom needs the Phoenix. They have a bigger microphone and the casual fan that the club needs to attend home games isn't going to be reading Gareths blog, they're going to be reading what Bidwell and Worthington are saying and believing that. Two seasons ago, an organisation whom I was heavily involved with at the time, considered banning the Dom or a certain writer from its trainings because of what he was writing. They realised that would cause more issues than it would solve. They didn't. They proved the guy wrong with their actions, it's up to the Phoenix to do that. At the moment, it doesn't seem like much of what the Dom writing is horrendously unfair (watching from afar as I am)My point re the accuracy of the Opinion piece yesterday and why I thought it had merit was the comments about off-field culture. The Pulse, Firebirds and the Hurricanes have all turned around horrendous off-field cultures recently, see the Dom piece on Elliot and the Firebirds last week, it doesn't quite seem like the Phoenix organisation are ticking on all cylinders at the moment. That's to be expected as new owners bed in a style that will work both on and off the field. Teams can still have success on the pitch while what is going on off it can be hideous, I show you the Hurricanes in the Cooper years. That place was toxic and it took Hammet (and Te Puni) coming in to sort that out. An organisation is much more likely to be successful and be in a position to build on that in the long term when the on and off field cultures are right.
Can anyone honestly say that the Phoenix back-office is firing on all cylinders at the moment? That was the point that I thought that Opinion piece yesterday was trying to make.

Don't be too harsh on Sam. He is at the whim of his editor Jonathan Milmow. It is Milmow that drives a lot of this!!
Five significant Nix pieces in the Dom Post this morning:
Phoenix eye move to smaller venue
What's going on at the Phoenix? (Sorry, can't find link right now)
Editorial: Time to support the Phoenix
Durante: Enough of the talking
Love them or hate them that's good coverage.
The big piece 'What's going on at the Phoenix?' goes over a lot of familiar ground and wheels out the likes of Kevin Fallon to offer his particularly unsophisticated views. However, the editorial is really good, noting the importance of the Phoenix to Wellington, giving Gareth and Welnix credit for trying to do something good (while not communicating especially well) and challenging the Wellington public to support the team.

Anyone else notice that Sam Worthington hasn't actually written a Phoenix piece for a while? He's either on holiday or has been moved onto something else.

Did they ask him how his involvement with the Kingz worked out?

It's probably the worst part of the article because Fallon apparently thinks Gareth was down there trying to run training - "it's like my headmaster wanting to come down and name the captain and wanting to dictate the training". Even the most pathetic and unsophisticated of us know that is not what was happening and it's disappointing to see this urban myth being given more traction.

Think he is on holiday.
