I just think that they were never on an anti-phoenix bandwagon per se, some were on a Serepisos witch hunt, and others were playing the media's favourite game of creating scandal instead of reporting news.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/sport/phoenix/7629212/Star-Sydney-signing-good-for-Phoenix

The former Italy and Juventus forward will likely play against the Phoenix in their A-League opener on October 6 after signing a two-year deal with Sydney FC worth a reported A$4 million (NZ$5.1m).

"He's not the sort of signing we're looking at, it's not our model," Dome said.

"That sort of money could do a lot for football in this country."

In the DP "Capital Day" section today:

"The Phoenix football star (Ifill) laughed over the new Phoenix supporters' T-shirt which carries the slogan: 'Keep Calm and Pass to Ifill", but wouldn't be photographed in front of it because he felt it might be disrespectful to his team-mates."

  1. Good work DP
  2. Ifill is awesome.

what the f*ck is this retard even doing writing about football;

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/7920733/Phoenix-need-a-marquee-central-midfielder

back four 'too flat'? what the hell? go back to rugby with your misinformed terminology

'release manny muscat to return to right back'

ever done any research?

suggests danny hay be bought in? Again, research please? like he and herbert would work together...

Advises that a midfielder needs to be bought asap, to 'turn around' the season... ever heard of a transfer window? It's pretty common knowledge among people who know about football...

and i havent even mentioned the grammatical errors, they seem to be standard fare for lazy journalists these days i guess

mark reason bringing the lols this morning

Apparently ifill should be a holding midfielder, and only managers who were once forwards can get their teams to play attacking football. Tell that to arsene wenger, former centre back.

why do these people get commissioned to write about football?

edit: some more examples:

Guardiola, former defensive midfielder

Vilanova, midfielder (with minimal goals)

Brendan Rodgers, defender

but seriously guys, Mark has a point -

If Ricki wasnt so deluded, he would just shift Lia to LB and we would become as good as Man Utd.

 Its so obvious

He's a journalistic troll. So annoyed everytime I click on a link and see that it's been written by him. Don't want to add comments as that just feeds the troll imo.

Yeah fair enough. Not hassling you for doing so, but I have this theory that due to the fact that online advertising is key, these journalist trolls rely on hits and comments, and will do anything they can to stir up either of these two. Thus any comment is a good comment for them, regardless of what is says. If that makes sense?

I think you are absolutely right. I ripped him apart in a Letter to the Editor though, I really hope it gets published tomorrow.

Also, Adblock Pro FTW. I don't see a single ad on the internet at all, and Stuff won't get any money from advertisers because of me. Winning.

One guy said "you'll only get 2 or 3 scores in the whole match". I've never understood this argument from rugby folk, you get exactly the same amount of tries in a rugby game. Just because they're worth 5 points instead of 1, plus the opportunity to watch a guy stand there for 3 minutes kicking a ball between posts for 2 or 3 points, doesn't make it more exciting.

Just FYI yes the column is trash but unfortunately it's not just in the Dom Post, it's basically in all Fairfax publications, just saw on Twitter some people ripping into the Dom Post only, not really their choice to publish it.

Ifill as a DM, good grief.....

Anything on stuff always draws ridiculous comparisons with rugby and a bunch of suggestions to 'improve' football. Someone else in there said they should have 30 minutes halves because somehow that would make it more exciting, wtf? He forgets that a lot of goals in football are scored in the last 20 minutes when everyone's knackered and fresh attacking legs are on.

Comparing sports is such a waste of time yet a large group of NZ rugby supporters stick at it.

Their main criticism of football is the lack of scoring, yet they don't seem to realise the fact that it's much easier to use your hands to get a ball past a 50 metre line than to use the rest of your body to get it into a small box.

Love my rugby but some of the other supporters are tiresome

I mentioned that in my response to him, which hasn't appeared yet

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
