Fever NFL thread - Superb Owl Day

loved that 2nd game almost as much as the first game bored (and disapointed) me.  Watched it all the way through, so feeling pretty beat up today.  Already have the Monday after the SuperBowl booked off after going out and drinking all the way through the game and then going to work on the Monday for the past 2 years.  The powercut last year absolutely ruined me.

Heart says Seahawks by 2, head says Bronco's by 6 (fuck you head).

Was a bit meh on this Superbowl, mostly going into the Championship week, I couldn't have thought of 4 teams I less wanted in the Superbowl, I would've taken any of the other playoff teams (Even the filthy Packers), but now that I think about, this is what the NFL is all about Great Defense against Great Firepower. As a fan of big hits, and tight defense (I Support Minnesota, this year was gutting to see our defense sooo bad), I have decided to cheer for the Seahawks this time.

Really looking forward to the day off, Chicken wings, chips, dip, and some beer. :) Might watch a replay of the Royal Rumble in the AM...

Also on the Vikings note, I am delighted with our coaching appointments, Zimmer as Head Coach to run the Defense, and Norv Turner as OC, just excellent. Looking forward to seeing an improved defense in 2014 (Hopefully less injuries as they killed us). Hoping at #8 we go for a linebacker, cornerback or defensive end (Think any QB we take there would be a reach, guessing that at least 2 QBs go before pick 8). Though in Speilman I trust.

Turner is terrible, why would anyone in the NFL touch him after he made such a mess of a very talented Chargers team?

And also, just in case someone was in any doubt, I really, really hope that Peyton and the Bronces arse rape Seattle.

Wouldn't want him as a head coach, but as an offensive co-ordinator yes please.

Other way around. God Denver were terrible.

The Broncos are very good, but I can't help but feel that at least on some level, they were hampered by just how terrible AFC was this season, they were completely overwhelmed and unprepared for what happened.

On the flipside NFC, especially the playoffs, was brutal and that served the Seahawks in very good stead.

Massive blowout - great fun to watch. All but one of my bets came in - Seattle to win, Percy Harmin to score, Lynch to rush less than 90 yards, and Denver to turn it over 3 or more times. The only one I missed was who the MVP would thank first - I thought that that it would be a Seattle player and he would thank the Seattle fans first.  Not sure who he thanked first, but it wasn't the fans who got him there

It was Malcolm Smith, and I believe his first thank you was to the rest of the Seattle Defense (Or Players), can't remember exactly, but he was saying it was a team effort etc.

Loved watching that game. Percy harvin showed why Kick Returns need to be part of the game, as for the Safety, OMG that was a huge wow moment to start the game.
Agree with comments about the Broncos in the poor AFC, especially the lack of a Top 6 defense, as I don't think the Broncos played any of the good defenses, while Seattle played 5/6 (Them being the 6th). I love a good defense, and seeing Special Teams matter, and Seattle plauyed to their strengths the whole way.

..wrong thread..

I was looking to start a new NFL Fantasy League this season, would like Dynasty, but if the majority of owners say nah to that then all good. Looking for 10-12 members, have 3 currently, if anyone is interested post away here, or pop me a message on twitter (@JonoNewton).

Probably run it on ESPN as their UI is a bit easier to use than NFLs.

07 Jul 00:51

no free gamepass this year

07 Jul 00:55

typical! The year I was thinking of giving it a go.

07 Jul 01:08

hopefully Sommet will still have their coverage. 2 games a week, plus a some playoff games including superbowl.

07 Jul 01:10

I was hoping to try condensed games out. Cuts out all the crap apparently. Guess can mysky now and spend most of the time fast forwarding. Gets annoying though.

The thing about this that annoys me is the loss of the 1pm games (I am generally awake at 5am so would watch 1 game in the morning on a Monday before work), I am probably going to pay for it as the Sky coverage is just not good enough...the jump from $0 to $200 is a bit steep in one go, but oh well.

07 Jul 17:20

Especially as a Vikings fan who get no prime time games :P

16 Jul 21:22

So guys, I have started a Fantasy Dynasty League for Yellow Fever members, thread about it here

http://www.yellowfever.co.nz/categories/football-g...

If anyone wants to join either reply in there or send me a DM on Twitter with your email address (Can ask me for a follow if I am not following you right now).

There is a minimum of 3 spots remaining, and I would like to be able to fill it before August 1st so that we can get the draft done and into it before the season proper (Am thinking evening of August 16th for our draft). If I don't have numbers for this draft by August 1st I'll have to chase other owners out on twitter to get some more sign-ups, but if you want in the Yellow Fever group have priority.

08 Aug 18:24

BUMP!! Purely because we have a last minute spot in the league for anyone who wants to join.

Just learnt Redzone is going to be on ESPN2 here every week

13 Aug 23:13

Very nice.

14 Aug 08:00

RedZone is amazing.  I know that the timezones aren't great but I cannot recommend highly enough putting a bet on each game, and then getting drunk and watching RedZone. It is confusing, exciting, funny, and nearly impossible to drag yourself away from when you need to go to the bathroom. You will also find that you physically "whoop" in delight when they go to the first quad box of the night.

OMG the Vikes actually looked good yesterday, Defensive line was pummeling the Cardinals, and both Teddy & Cassel looked good under centre (Looks like the O-Line has improved), both throwing for near 200yds, at 75% with 3 total passing TDs, just awesome.

Also the battle to make the WR Corps looks interesting

Jennings, Patterson & Simpson should be looks

Jarius Wright is the #4, and Theilen looks like taking the 5 spot.

Then you have Robert Smith going really hard to try and get a 6th spot on the 53 man roster, now normally teams take 5 WRs through into the season, but his performances since camp started make me think he will be there as well.

19 Aug 04:08

I've decided to support the Rams this season. Underdogs in the division of death and all that. Look pretty good defensively.

Have a better chance this season, Cardinals are cursed as the Superbowl is in Arizona, and Seahawks cursed by Madden Cover.

Eugh, Sam Bradford out for the season. Hopefully Shaun Hill can step up. Rams even more underdogs now. They've got some exciting young players though.

Shaun Hill is probablt the best back-up in the league, very solid.

He has also thrown 16 passes in the last three years, so he could have lost it and nobody will have known....

There is that, forget that it was 2010 that he last started a game. Though I still think I'd trust him over most of the options out there/available for trade.

27 Aug 05:24

50% off game pass when your free trial expires for PLP subscribers. Tempting for the condensed games.

How'd you get that? An email? I unsubscribed from their emails. Might have to hit them up.

oh man, Rams beyond terrible today. O line made of paper

Solid win vs the Jags.  A few turn-ups today already though with the Fish beating the Pats, the Bills over the Bears and the chiefs getting pasted.

Need the Giants to go down and it's a good opening week for me.

How's my driving? - Whine here

08 Sep 22:42

Delighted with the start by my Vikings, especially seeing Harrison Smith with the Intercept Return TD.

A good win there and some clear progress in all positions. But now comes the hard run with Pats, Saints, Falcons, Packers, Lions over the next 5 weeks :(

18 Sep 04:05

Finally saw a couple NFL (preseason) games at MetLife stadium was pretty impressive as a spectacle in the stadium, play was average. But got to see the Giants vs. the Pats, and the Jets vs. the Colts. Might try to go to a regular season game, but probably out of my price range.

Bengals win again. I know it can't last.

Bengals are my second team. Rams won! can't believe it.
