Ryder seems to be hogging the strike...

Does Ryder look comfortable batting?  He could do some real damage if he lasts a while.

this must be surely the best start we have had for a while, ie most runs for the 1st wicket.

Great start. No Murali for Sri Lanka, which sure will help us get a good total...

Sri Lankan supporters complaining about that selection on website
"Since when have NZ been good players of spin?? What is the point of dropping Murali?"

Have dropped below 7 an over, C'mon boys, it's becoming slow reading.

Yeah, that does seem to be more his bag.  Hasn't he watched Rocky "Women, they weaken the legs"  or something like that.  Hang on, how're Jesse's legs?

Maiden over is a bit sad fellas. get into them.

Who's playing again?  Rare territory in recent times.

big discussion on cricinfo whether NZ should be taking power play now.

Ryder no longer scoring at twice the rate of McCullum.

Yeah, the captain must have his plan in mind, just so long as he is thinking on his feet too 'cause he wouldn't have been expecting a start quite like this - I guess.

Three for me, and two for them.

No no, that's not a collapse.  We just fast-forwarded to our next in-form batsmen.   (gulp)

If Guptill and Broom stay together for 10 overs we will be looking good.

There are still 10 overs of power play to be taken.

Taylor got the magic 200 strike rate and 100% boundaries for his scoring shots.  (Phoenix supporter well trained in looking for positives)  stevenivan2009-09-27 22:55:53

lol @ Broom.  Don't know why he's here.  Franklin is currently on 102 not out, so hopefully he keeps going.

Sri Lanka calling first powerplay now. Despite fair advice from someone on cricinfo:

"At the rate of the NZ collapse, the longer he holds back with the bowling powerplay, the less competent the NZ batters will be. 10 overs of powerplay in overs 40-50 might be too daunting for numbers 9, 10 and 11."

Use them now while we are regrouping and can't afford to try to lift it.

I thought that was a bit cheeky when I first read it.  However the way things have been going??

What is a good total on this wicket?

from a cricinfo wit:  Bob o'Hara: "As a connoisseur of middle order collapses, I'm quite looking forward to the Eng-NZ game on Tuesday."

Dan doing the business now,Guptill a bit quiet.

Guptill's average is still looking healthy

213/5 (39.1 ov) with 11 overs at say 7/over gives 290.  Possible.

Guptill starting to flow more now.

Vettori holes out (tamely) 2 short of his 50.  Bring on Frankie

Franklin, who was 104 not out in a county game when called to replace Oram, to face now  - cricinfo     I hope he makes his trip worthwhile now.

scores off all his first 5 balls faced.

SIX from Guptill, beautiful shot, well it read nicely anyway.

New Zealand 252/6 (44.4 ov) Power play for last 5 overs.

He is a good player to watch, should keep improving too.

." Free hit coming up"    FOUR.  that's the way.  These guys are doing it.

"steered to backward point where Dilshan makes a rare fumble" -cricinfo.  They sound a bit sloppy tonight (today?)

Guptill gone - good partnership.  Can Mills produce a cameo performance?

YES

Kulasekara to Franklin, FOUR, Oh my .. he has smoked that ..  -CRICINFO

surely not.  The bowlers have got to love walking out and seeing that total on the scoreboard.

0.4
Mills to Dilshan, FOUR, he had missed the attempted slash second ball but connects this time. It was shorter this time and he flashed it over backward point in style
0.5
Mills to Dilshan, SIX, here we go. He is going after em already. A short delivery outside off and moving away in fact but Dilshan fetches it from there and pulls it superbly over midwicket boundary
0.6
Mills to Dilshan, no run

Oh Crap!
