I like Baz, but that was a dumb declaration. Would never have happened in the 80s when you never game a sucker a break and test victories were holy. At the very least he should have batted for another 7 overs, scored another 40 runs and that would have meant 100 overs at them and a run rate above 4.00.

I think he still remembers that draw against engalnd at Eden park and how they were down to their last wicket. The difference is Baz you are one nil up in this series.

I won't be impressed if we stuff this up after watching for 5 days.

Spose Starc didn't listen to Warner's  "Let's stop giving the batsmen send offs" speech prior to the test...Chappell thinks it's fine..LOL, if an Indian had done that to an Aussie...

Kane Williamson's catch number one on sportcenter's top ten. They had him on the phone too. He had to tell the host what a bowler was quite funny

I reckon declaring at that stage was the right thing to do - we've set a target which is much bigger than any that's been successfully chased at this ground, and we've given ourselves enough time to get the second new ball at the end of today if we need it. We've got two of the best swing bowlers in the world to come at them, and by giving them this much time to bat we've put them in a situa tion where they might think they can get the score, and therefore are more likely to get out going for it than if they just shut up shop and tried to play out for the draw. Sure Sri Lanka might pull off an unlikely chase and win but I'd much rather see us trying to win every game we play than being comfortable playing out draws so we can get series victories (at home at least).

I'm glad someone else saw the sense in it. Far too many people disputed the decision to declare at that sage

I saw sense in it. I just wanted to see Kane get 300 that's all.

I would have waited an over or two. He should have let Kane try and get 250 and Watling 150. Other than that, brilliant game.

Put it this way, Kane would have been one of two or three people who discussed the plan at tea. He's pretty unselfish and probably didn't even think about personal milestones. He even said he's not a big stats person.

Maybe however they didn't listen to him in the discussion as he also said he was surprised with Baz declared, waving his arms around

So... what's our WC squad going to look like? Pretty predictable for the most part... I've heard Radiosport saying they've heard Boult will miss out whilst Stuff is reporting that Henry will miss out... I'm kinda hoping it's Mills - though I know it won't be lol.

Rain can be forced under the covers by wind, not like it hasn't happened before but like i said, depended on how much wind was around. I live in the Hutt where there was a bit but Adelaide Rd and Cambridge Terrace can be a bit of a wind tunnel

The groundsman would probably find himself out of a job if he let that happen during a test match. Trust me all measures are taken to keep the pitch dry and bar a tsunami it shouldn't happen. I've had some close calls in storms in wellington but the weather was pretty tame for that test in comparison

My ODI 15:

1 Guptill
2 B McCullum/Latham (TL batting cover BM floating)
3 Williamson
4 Taylor
5 Anderson
6 Elliot ^
7 Ronchi
8 Vettori/N McCullum
9 Southee
10 Mills/Milne/Boult
11 McClenaghan

I think Neesham could be the #6 but I prefer Elliot. Henry would be unlucky to miss out but so would Mills, Milne or Boult. Either way one of those four miss out.

On call would be:
Neesham
Henry
Watling
Munro

Apart from maybe Taylor and Slater, the Channel 9 commentary team should all be thrown into the ocean.  Their bias is almost at sinister levels now.

Surprised there's no talk/debate here about the ODI team. Seams like there's a few unpopular decisions amongst fans. I like it but probably wouldn't have complained too much if it was Henry over Milne and Neesham over Elliot but can see why they went with that 15. It's a good thing having depth anyway and with nine games between now and then I highly doubt we won't see at least one injury.

This is gutting. He's quietly been a key cog in our resurgence. The performance of our bowlers during his tenure has been excellent.

That's a big loss. He has been a good addition to this team. Have to point out that a big majority of the current bowling team were heading for big things before he became a BC coach but I have no doubt he's only helped push them further.

Black Caps on fire these days...8 wins in their last 13 tests (only 2 losses)...Williamson makes run getting look effortless (with help from SL fielders!!) , Boult & Southee  now world-class .  Now No5 in the rankings and only a few points off 3rd place

Think Neesham was very unlucky but have nothing against Elliott. So yeah, i can see the sense in what they're doing. So I'm not to worried.
15 seems incredibly small squad for a tournament though. You'd think they'd have a couple of more.

No real issues for me at all.  The only thing I would have changed is have Henry over Milne, and maybe Watling over Latham, but that last one was never going to happen.

The only issue I would have had is if they had of not taken Mills.  I think the public at large completely ignore just how good he has been over the last few years.  In this country a lot of the public are FAR to quick to want to push experienced players out the door because they are 'too old' in pretty much all sports.

Elliott makes sense over Neesham, although it's harsh on the young guy. But Elliott in the middle order gives us a more experienced and balanced looking side I think. I saw a little of Milne in the Pakistan series just gone and as well as his obvious asset he looked accurate and able to bowl with a plan, so picking him is a no-brainer for me. Again, harsh on Henry but Milne's pace really does add another dimension to the side.

India Aus final session shaping up nicely.  As long as Kohli is in India are a chance!  Got $10 on them now (tea) at $7.  It's a long shot, but those are pretty good odds.
