How about Ross Taylor subsidises the ticket costs and everyone pays $10 a day. Done.

Anyone see the tv3 interview with Ross Taylor tonight? He couldn't even look at the camera.

End of an era.  Vinnie - It's over.

What do you mean by that? Some people aren't comfortable with a camera in their face and he's relatively new to it.

But not even a glance? Surely they have some sort of media training, esp for a vice-captain.

Is it that big a deal?

They have cameras on them a lot when they are training etc and they probably try their hardest not to look at the camera then so maybe it comes naturally.

just got a reply from the emai I sent to NZC re the ticket prices, not too sure if they got my point really.....

Hi David

Thanks for your e-mail.

Ticketing service fees are a fact of life with any major event in the country but I get what you mean in terms of adding that to the cost of the day.

That said, you are looking at $30.25 for six hours of international cricket which I personally think compares well to the (around) $40 plus fees for a Super 15 match of 90 minutes; or $20 for a movie, also of 90 minutes. As for two hours concerts at $160.! While its difficult to compare sport and entertainment events dollar for dollar, I hope you can see my point.

Professional sport is expensive to run these days and cricket is no exception. A five day event does not come cheaply and as it is, we lose money on Tests. Our ticket costs by and large have not altered much over many years and we have no plans for any increases in the future.

Kind Regards

Owen Harrison

Subject: Test match ticket prices

Good Afternoon,

I had been considering attending the test match in Wellington this weekend. However due the cost of a day pass being so high I have changed my mind, Ill stay at home and watch it on the telly, with my own beer and comfy chair. $25 + a $5.25 fee from ticketek which apparently I have to pay if I purchase at the gate is ridiculous.....especially when our own team are peforming poorly and it is effectivel Pakistan B we are playing against.

If test matches are ever going to be well attended NZC must reduce the cost of tickets dramitcally.

when did the super 15 matches become 90 minutes?

When did movies hit $20.00?

I paid $50.00 to see Shihad and 2 other bands recently, that was value for money,

The Slack Craps are nowhere near value at this price.

Once again, NZC are out of touch with the people that prop up the game here.

I guess he's trying to point out that 6 hours of cricket for $30.25 is value when compared to other events, $5 an hour for crap cricket, when I can watch it at hom in the comfort of my lounge with my own beer, hmmmmmmm I know where I'll be,.

Fans could expect to pay more when the top-rated South African team tour next summer, he said.

Yes, cricket is longer entertainment, but it isn't a fair comparison as it is much more drawn out. It is a completely different atmosphere to more fast paced things he compared it to.

My point is that they are going to lose money on tests no matter what they charge, and T.V revenue (especially subcontinent rights) are where they get their money, so why not take a slightly bigger hit on the tests and attract a larger crowd.

I paid less per day to watch Australia v England (averaged out at 30 per day) at the MCG than I would if I bought tickets for this game. Saying that though ill still go.

Axemen on Saturday though surely? We don't charge $30 and you can watch me score little or no runs again. Just like New Zealand!

pretty much how I replied to his email - saying that I'd rather see 10,000 fans over the 5 says paying $10 than 1500 @ $30. NZC wuld still make more money my way and the event would look fantastic on telly.

Email them back and say all those things are an entire match/concert. While one day of test match cricket is only 1/5th of a match.
Also

Complete rubbish.

Re-reading that email,it felt a little patronising,or is that just me?

Chris Gayle didn't get picked up by an IPL team. Any reason behind this? Because he is probably the best T20 batsmen out there.

West Indies are touring England and it clashes with the IPL. Might be more to it than that but I know that is the main reason. Most English/West Indian players who got picked up are on smaller contracts than expected had they been committed to the entire IPL competition.

BILLYS DAD

Billy was at school this morning and the teacher asked all the
children what their fathers did for a living. All the typical
answers came out, fireman, policeman, salesman, chippy, captain of
industry etc, but Billy was being uncharacteristically quiet
and so the teacher asked him about his father.
"My father is an exotic dancer in a gay club and takes off all his
clothes in front of other men. Sometimes if the offer is really
good, he'll go out with a man, rent a cheap hotel room and let them
sleep with him."
The teacher quickly set the other children some work and took
little Billy aside to ask him if that was really true.
"No" said Billy, "He plays cricket for Australia but I was just too
embarrassed to say."
