My $ is on Australia to win it. But saying that any of the last 8 could get through, each team has it's weakness.

how wrong was I??? Ha in that case South Africa have this one in the bag.

They have the ability, but not consistency.
Awesome stuff.
We will never fully decide who has won the football.

can i just say BOOYAA
i was squealing this the whole time ryder/taylor were batting and the commentators were whinging that we were going sh*t
it was tough out there and that partnership ultimately won us the game

Sh*t. I went to bed with Sth Africa at 50/1 and Smith and Kallis set. The comeback always comes just after you go to bed. Ha!
Awesome effort. Please forgive me for everything I was saying about you at the end of your innings black caps!

More like Hot and Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold Cold...
still awesome 2 watch... coz the HOT, when it comes is fantastic.... Its similar to the 6-0 defeat of gold coast last season, when the nix were average for 10 games and then hit form and it made great viewing
That's some pretty awesome picking right there.

lol, obviously we couldn't let the streak of being knocked out in the semis end!

Seems that the Match Referee ain't too happy wonder what kind of punishments "It could cost New Zealand" could be, player bans? Or Match Result change.

Not gonna lie, I had zero faith. But I'm stoked. Just a little bit

Watch it here - 1/2 way through part 7, it's bloody brilliant

After Du Plesis runs out De Villiers, Mills, Vettori & Styris are all right in his ear telling him all about it. Brilliant! Then Du Plesis pushes Mills away. Nothing too much in it really.
They'll probably end up with a fine.

Absolutely. I didn't think that 220 was enough, thought we would need at least 240 to apply the pressure that we would need to be able to bowl them out, but the commentary during the Ryder Taylor partnership was just plain dumb. They set the platform to get to what could have been 250 if Taylor had of gone well when he decided to launch. Don't normally like Nicholls but good on him for having the balls to disagree with the previous commentators (Symcox especially) on that point.
Symcox obviously hasn't watched Ryder much either - talked about Ryder being:
Slow between wickets (wrong)
A poor judge of a run (wrong)
A 'block - bash' player (completely wrong, he is probably the most adept player in our team along with Styris at putting the ball into the gap and turning the strike over)
Even when Ryder was just over 50 off 65ish balls having only hit 2 or 3 boundaries, Symcox was talking about Ryder not scoring enough in singles and relying to much on boundaries. It is certainly something you could accuse Guptill and maybe even Taylor of, but certainly not Ryder.

Our whole team is pretty poor at rotating the strike throughout an innings. Watch teams like Sri Lanka (Sangakara), England (Trott), Australia (M Hussey) among othrers. These teams and in particular the players mentioned are the masters of it. Most of our singles are when our batsmen hit it through a gap in the ring and it goes to the fielder who has been placed there, on the boundary. That's not really the point, the opposing team wants you to play it there. The best teams can hit it with soft hands to a fielder in the ring and get a single (two if he's on the boundary). Ryder is actually a good example, he'll get singles but it is very rarely ever a quick single or pinching two from what should be one. Ryder hits the ball cleanly but he relies on that alone - if it happens to find a gap its four, if it doesn't it's a dot or a single. We faced something like 170 dots last night, if we could have turned a third of those in to singles our total would have been much more competitive. It's easy to say in hindsight that 221 was competitive enough on that pitch because SA choked (we also bowled reasonably well apart from Southee) and I agree that it wasn't the best surface but a better team would have set a bigger target.
Don't get carried away because we pulled off one big win.
Cold, cold, cold, cold, cold, cold, cold, cold, HOT.
In saying that I hope this win lifts our confidence and we play better against our next opponents and things go our way, again.

God that game was good yesterday. Really hoping England get one over SL too - anything to avoid a semi against four home spinners in Colombo. England have made a decent start of it, good platform to go on from here.

And I would just like to add that Navjot Sidhu is the greatest commentator of all time. OF ALL TIME.

Hmm pretty ordinary total from England. Really need a couple of quick wickets or the game will be taken away from them.

England more goals than wickets and Sri Lanka more centuries.

Yes 1992.
Some research also tells me 1983.
And 1979.
Record is played 8 won 3 lost 5.

Cheers sanday.
I give us a slim fighting chance. We really have to step up our batting to give us a good chance. Bowling + fielding can hopefully pick up from where they left off against SA.

But we've now lost 4 in a row - don't think we have much chance in this game to be honest.
It seems we've actually really profited from finishing fourth in our group, as that meant we avoided sub-continent opposition in the QFs, which gave a us a fighting chance.
