Just noticed this. For a test team you have to pick your best keeper. While McCullum is opening the batting, he can't keep, and the next best keeper in the country sure ain't Watling.

Reece Young was pretty impressive in the Pakistan series. He comfortable has the test spot locked down. I think Watling is fighting for the #6 spot in the batting line up.

Which is ridiculous, considering he is an opener. Come to think of it, don't think he's even in the test team, but should open in the odi's, has a fantastic avg.

And now, keepers have to be able to bat also. I'm not convinced that Young can at test level

What time is the game tonight?

Wouldn't mind seeing a few overs (if I'm allowed....).

I turned over and Zim were 8/2. Didn't bother watching much more. Surprised that they made it to 230 tbh.

Anyone watch any of this last night? Watched a bit of the NZ innings. Williamson was all class I thought. Quick 100, but through intelligent cricket rather than just bashing it everywhere.
Bit of a worry that Zim chased down 330 though.
On another note the commentators are atrocious. Didn't even mention that Williamson was approaching 100 until it had happened and then they only just realised because he acknowledged the crowd. Despite the fact that he hit a 4 off a no-ball then ran 3 off the last ball to make it.

Was a great knock.

Get rid of McKay I reckon, too expensive, all his wickets are crappy. Rosco gave away his good innings with some dreadful fielding, and Luke Woodcock is not international level.

Still, very entertaining!

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/cricket/5858382/Radio-Sport-pulls-out-of-Plunket-Shield-broadcasts

Very sad. Radio Sport was built on its cricket coverage. Between this decision, getting rid of Miles, the bloody farming show, bringing back Veitch..., I have just emailed to let them know I will no longer be listening to any radio network station (except for coverage of live sport)as this is the final straw. (Sorry Piney - would definitely listen to you if I was in Wellington/Kapiti aswell.)

You left out the fact they keep that grade a c**t Mark Watson on too.

Three for me, and two for them.

I could have crapped on and on about the diminishing quality of their hosts, (especially the dork you mentioned) but decided that my rant was starting to take away focus from my main point (the cricket) so left it at '...'.

D'arcy Waldergrave?

Probably Watson (replacing Miles, can't see them moving D'arcy off the drive show.)aitkenmike2011-10-27 15:49:28

Miles was very diplomatic when asked about it yesterday, his words were "things are being reconfigured and I don't feature as part of the plans"

Will be interesting to see what path they go down. I wonder if they will just give Kent Johns a regular slot?

That was the only positive outcome I could think of from curent staff.

Wonder if McHardie or Piney could do the slot from Welly?

If they bought Piney on I might have to break my email statement that I will not listen to radio network stations as long as they aren't doing commentary on Plunket Shield.

Can't see it though.

McHardie did nights for a while a couple of years back, the other one I thought was maybe they give Goran his own show but I can't imagine they will break up him and Darcy.

have already signed it, is a travesty. The worst part is that they didn't just come out and say it was cost-cutting, tried to pretend their proposed system was better

Test match under way...

Ryder injured, Brownlie and Bracewell make their debuts. Two spinners and only two seamers - one of those being Bracewell. McKay apparently sick. Will most likely see Williamson, Brownlie and Guptill bowl some overs too. The pitch is cracking already so the balance makes sense.

Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor (capt), BJ Watling, Dean Brownlie, Daniel Vettori, Reece Young (wk), Doug Bracewell, Jeetan Patel, Chris Martin

Harry ftw.

Baz only bats in one fashion, something we should all be used to by now.

He does what he wants, on the field, off the field. There is nothing that can be said or done by any coach to change him. I can assure you he is hurting a lot from missing out on the top job.

That tends to only work if the player is world class, and he is not world class.

Try telling him that mate.

I've met numerous international players with the same attitude and I think the IPL has made it a lot more prevalent. If you get the big bucks you're a big dog. Not a rule but more often than not.

So the IPL is ruining Test cricket then? What else is new?

No wonder the Poms don't bother with it.

Pretty much. Not saying it's new, just that it effects certain players more than others. I know players in the black caps that it won't effect (or hasn't) the same way for example. TopLeft072011-11-01 23:06:47

was feeling pretty sick so went to bed at about 50-1 so didnt see a lot but would have thought on that pitch against those bowlers we could have scored a little quicker. still, happy to be only 3 down

Only saw the first five overs, but that pitch looked incredibly low even with the new ball. If that continued it probably wasn't easy to score runs on

Will be interesting to see if we can get 20 wickets on that. Time for Dan the man to step up...
