Good luck then. You'll be hoping for an edge off either side of the bat, preferably the inside. Remember he has to get out too so you're hoping Arnel hangs in there!

If I was the Pakistani openers I wouldn't bother with pads.TopLeft072011-01-09 18:11:46

I'm not, cricketers aren't nice to deal with when they're playing sh*t and they usually give bullsh*t pitch reports.

Well trust me, If they give you any sh*t about your pitch at Wellington then they should ggf, generally your Wellington pitches are the best ones in the country

Tell them to sod off. About as much use as a chocolate teapot this lot.

Three for me, and two for them.

From watching it at the ground and having a look, and also on TV this pitch seemed pretty poor, but not in the way we have tried to make it look.

To me, it seemed like one of those horrible nothing pitches that have no bounce/carry, no early seam movement, little pace. It seems hard to score runs on even when batsmen are 'in', but yet still difficult to remove a batsman once they are set unless they f**k up.

We just f**ked up a lot. From what I have seen of the pitch, it should have been a fairly low scoring win to either side on the 5th day.aitkenmike2011-01-09 18:33:38

Yeah you're 100% correct there. It's a lifeless pitch, no bounce/pace or seam movement/turn so relatively easy to bat on if you're smart. But the down side for batsmen is the ball doesn't come on to the bat so it makes it harder to play certain shots. Foot movement is very important on a surface like that. It's actually quite similar to a sub continent pitch so no surprises we're getting shown how to play on it.

We'll see mate but cheers anyway. Should be better than this Seddon deck all going to plan.

What has cost us (as well as our obviously sh*t batting) is the continued inability of our popgun bowling attack to clean up relatively weak tails.

That would be cool, the fact they have now lost 2 days revenue from a 5 day test won't sit well, especially since NZ was on the losing end.

Check out The Big Bash WA vs NSW on SS1 at the moment. WA 97/0 off 7.3. Gayle's on 61 off 26 after pumping 32 off the last over. Ridiculous.

It's $25 + A Transaction Fee from $5.25 applies for this event.

And A credit/debit card processing fee of 2% to 2.6% (depending on card type) will apply for this Event

And I assume a booking fee

To be honest, after hosting India vs NZ, Pakistan [at full strength] vs NZ and Australia vs NZ test matches at Basin Reserve, I'm not particularly excited about this next one myself and today's performance certainly didn't help. Crowds are going to be sh*t no doubt, there is an ODI at the stadium two days after [the scheduled finish of] the test match and I suspect more people will rather spend their $27.10 [Adult] on that.

In brighter news, Craig Cumming shows he still got it playing a real captains knock for Otago at Molyneux in 30degree heat. Otago put on 191 for the last two wickets, cumming unbeaten on 94.

Yeah a lot of English/WesT Indians are either missing out or getting smaller contracts.

They will be gutted. Anyone hear about McCullum kicking up a stink over NZC scheduling a test match against Aussie that clashed last year? Got his way in the end and they canned it.

Pathetic loss by NZ really. This Pakistan team is nowhere near as strong as the teams that used to come out here. They were there for the taking, yet we lose inside three days by ten wickets.

First innings, we shoot ourselves in the foot with some of those dismissals. Then 275 still looks decent when we have them 107/4 but we let them get away on us a bit and they end up with a 92-run lead. Then we lose 10/78. Shot guys.

Our test record at the Basin in recent times is also very lousy too - a few losses, a couple of draws (where rain saved us), and a measly win against the West Indies.

Things will have to change.

i heard reports this morning on radio sport that there were cheers heard coming from the new zealand dressing room when players were receiving news of their ipl contracts.

not sure how credible this is (i thought it all happened overnight our time) but if its the case then its quite sad to see thats where their heads were

To be fair, Chris Martin didn't score a century in the most recent test series vs India. But yeah, his batting in this match was dire.
