Ridiculous game- the quality of Verdasco vs Nadal last year for sure. Brilliant tennis- nearly every rally would make rally of the match in most other games.

Hey what did the commentators say something about perhaps at the end of this set they have the choice to continue or take a break?  Did I mishear that?

If it goes to five they will be well shattered for the next round...

Yeah- due for fireworks to go off for Australia day in Melbourne itself (don't get me started on Australia Day right now...).

Great thanks, thought I was going crazy.  Answer another crazy question please, why is the 6 in the score a different colour?  Doing my head in...

Just to show who won the set- makes it easier to glance at if there are tiebreaks (to see that the 6 doesn't actually win in that case).

Yip. But I think Cilic has played three 5 setters in a row. At least two. But different with Murray vs Nadal, as they about the two fastest guys around so they make a lot more balls than a normal match.

Nadal looking the more solid player so far in the second. Murray not quite pulling off the shots he was earlier.

Agreed. Also be interesting to see who carries on with greater momentum after this wonderful break for fireworks

Phew. Murray made some bad errors after the fireworks, but a great return game to break straight back - like in the first set.

Cilic has had 3 five-setters in his last 4 matches I think

Last two games the match stepped up.

My favourite was the cheeky drop shop by Murray, then the cheeky dink over his head.

Wonderful stuff all round. This match could come down to the smallest of margins.

Sad that Rafa pulled out, but Murray had him tonight. Murray very respectful in the post match interview.

Now for Murray to lose to Cilic.

Permalink Permalink

If you are Djokovic or Tsonga or Davydenko the you could well be a tad disheartened right now, just because Murray is basically already in the final (Cilic is a good player and will be very good but Andy will account for him easily if things go to plan) and these guys are still only in the quarters! Not to mention the greatest player of all time in your side of the draw.

Rog v Tsonga semi I think. Will be a ripper hopefully, then Federer to beat Murray in the final.

Tsonga all the way, to take Cilic in the final after an epic meltdown from Murray.

Cilic is the semi-final I didn't want to get Murray to get. I would've been less worried about Roddick or Del Potro.

Fantastic that Roddick lasted 5 sets with an injury. Does anyone think it was strange that Nadal was suddenly injured after losing the lead... It is always funny how when you are down injuries seem to kick in. If he had one the 2nd I think adrenline would of made hi get past the injury but anyway. Nadal was definatly below his best, I think it is ridiculous to compare it to the Verdasco-Nadal match, just look at how many forehand errors Nadal made.

In saying that Murray looked good although I don't think S&V will work against Fed.

Nadal never had a lead. Well, maybe for about 5 minutes in the first set, but he didn't get injured until a couple of hours later.

Nadal was playing the best he has for at least the last few months (he's been in rubbish form lately). The points both players were having in the first set and near end of second in particular were astounding. It was clear that Nadal was moving completely normally (which is abnormally fast compared to most!) until right near the end.

Bad wording on the word lead. More meant when it was clear he was going to lose in 3. Final should be good as Murray looks very good at the moment.

I wonder if Tomic will start saying he could of got to the SF because he almost beat Cilic if it wasn't for the time he played him...

Murray not guaranteed final at all. Cilic can play great tennis. Still up'n'coming young guy. A bit less experienced than some of the other young guys, but has been stepping it up big time the last 6 months. Talented. Colvinator2010-01-27 16:47:34

Yeah absolutely Cilic is quality, I just think Andy will dispatch him as Cilic is a young lad and on the way up. He's also already had a whale of a tournament, and Murray needs to make the final for him to say he has been sucessful. Just how I see it happening anyways.

Cilic has played 3 5 setters and atleast one four setter. Murray has not even dropped a set (IIRC). Also Cilic in my opinion has scraped through all his 3 five setters and would of lost to Roddick had it not been for his injury. Murray should win in 3-4 provided there is no sudden change in form. Although Cilic is dangerous given everything he has gone through, the fact it is a GS SF and he is playing an inform player I think it is fair to say Murray has it all wrapped up.

Federer was outstanding in the last two and a half sets, just needs to maintain that consistency. Forehand was really on fire at times and his serve was at times at its best.

I see what you're saying here, but don't forget that Cilic dispatched Murray in US Open, so the mental battle might be interesting. Cilic has a killer forehand that Murray doesn't have, though Murray has the best backhand out.

I disagree with your comment that Murray has to make the final for him to say he's successful though. He's only about three months older than Federer was when he won his first major. He has made a Grand Slam final already. Murray is successful big time already. Ok, he is dieing for a major though. But yea, you would think Murray would have the experience to beat Cilic.
