After Leith-ing this thread when I went overseas three months ago, I really missed the awful puns. This will be the Firth of Forth-coming threads from me if you'll have me back! Please do, I don't want to have to Sever(n) my ties with the pundemonium thread! That would leave a bit of a Stour taste in my mouth.

We using Orwell as a re-focus ?

If we don't make 1984, it won't be a Blyton any of us.

Well if we do, I suggest 2 puns good, 4 puns (not) baaaad. But in the interest of avoiding disappearing up our own behind's, and the potential Rhine-ing of those yet to enjoy an April morning in which the clock chimes 13, we had better Styx to rivers.

Good to see no one is Rhine-ing about this thread biut are taken awash with the puns. we're getting Severn about it now!

I prefer HN's suggestion to change from rivers to authors, because rivers doesn't flow like it used to, and I can see many-a-pun on authors rowling on and taking up many more pages.

Quite right, Darling!

I'm not sure the flow has quite dried up - the rivers have brought out a few out of their Hutt(s).

Gee, the potential for Authors is vast, so how about we start within the NZ corpus first?HarryHotspur2008-06-06 19:46:12

Have you fallen on Hard Times, LG? We need to put this (Bleak) House in order if you are losing the thread.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
