Cags.

Three for me, and two for them.

Great result. You have to hand it to the Warriors supporters. They now how to get behind their team. Over 25000 there. They always seem to get big crowds.
wasnt it over half their average crowd? last game of the season v broncos in a playoff push wouldve been a big draw for most.

My calculations tell me we want Sydney to win this game but win it by less than 16. They have just gone 16 ahead.

Wouldn't we want the Roosters to loose?

Or if the Panthers loose tonight. ( doubt they will )

Then all we need to do is win and then either Panthers or titans loose in the final round.
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
well we definatly need the panthers to lose tonight. next weekend we are away to eels. given they cant make the finals im hoping they will be somewhat deflated and thinking at what might have been.

roosters are away to the cowboys and the panthers are at home to the sharks.

the two teams behind us on 28 points are the sea eagles who are at home to the bulldogs and the raiders who are away to the broncs

so i believe if roosters and panthers dont win, titans also lose to tigers, we win, then we go third on PD?

Paddy Ah Van is the next one to check out of Mt Smart. Being released and off to the Super League. Always liked "Blinky", not the flashest but didn't tend to do an awful lot wrong when he played. Good luck to him.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Correct.

So with the known player movements to date, what will our starting squad look like next year?

                    Hohaia
Locke                             THEBEAST
               Inu       Ropati
             Seymour Maloney

                     Matteo
              Luck     Mannering
    Packer     Brown      Rapaira

-----
Lillyman
Matulino
Prop
Heramia/halves cover

Or would you have Matteo at 6?  What would you do with Maloney then?  He's also our primary goal kicker, not that you should choose a player for that solely, but he's proven to be an above average player in his position at NRL level.

So many young/U20 players too to consider.  Shaun Johnson, Mara will be a huge talent, Steve Rapira is coming back, Latimore/Louisi didn't look bad.

Warriors to win NRL championship in 2012 if not before.  Key is our young core, would have had lots more exp, brains, strengthened bodies for NRL.  Forwards mid 20's onwards = primetime.

Other top teams plateu/declining + us catching up in aging of young players + adding tallent.

That was a long rant.

Problem with a young squad is as they get older and better they demand more money and you inevitably have to let them go as you cannot fit them under the salary cap. Unless you are the melbourne storm.

Brown at hooker? Hmmmm.

Tegal - thats true, but NZ boys get mad homesick.  I hear Eastwood wants out of Leeds.  Manu signed surely cos of his bros and family here.  The Warriors seems to and should be able to play that NZ is home card, and although some U20 grads have gone over to Aussie they might not have been the cream of the crop anyhow such as Likiliki (shoulda kept him for the name alone, Costo would have a ball), the wrong Rapira (but he's coming home cos he's homesick right?) etc.  While we've kept and signed up Locke, Matulino, Mara I hope will get a full contract next year, Shuan Johnson etc...

Shedding Tait, Pricey and Hendo surely has created more than enough cap space for Mateo, Inu, Rapira.  Should have some left over for the raise Manu got, who else's contract is due soon?

The club/Cleary seem to be quite savvy at picking up players who are fringe squad players from other teams who become compitent role players here i.e. Maloney, Lillyman, Luck, Royal etc.

Paulinho - yeah, the right build and going by his form/runs over the last few weeks he seems to be pretty good at running from dummy half and breaking tackles.  Being at hooker he doesn't need to be a great passer which he isnt.

And please please please don't play Hohaia in the halves ever again.  Which means Locke will have to play wing, which means Inu will have to play centres.  Mateo as our ball playing backrower we've been missing since Lauititi (he was missing brains too though).

I forgot I Inu is a pretty accurate kicker.

And yeah i suppose there is a risk of losing players to the Super League from our first team than it is to NRL teams i.e. I can see Seymour pissing off to the UK on some big contract if he plays well in the playoffs (i want him to stay tho).

No Ukuma Ta'ai in your line-up?!?

Seymour is contracted till the end of 2011. They could release him from his contract early, but I can't see it happening.

Inu's defence hasn't got me totally sold. A massive drop from Tate to him at the moment. He is young though and should learn pretty easily.

It only takes one injury and the whole plan goes down the toilet, and in league that will, not if, happen, so its important to have cover in all areas for all eventualities. I'm not sure we can realistically expect our first string 13 to be together for more than maybe one match at a time before injuries set in. Its the nature of the sport.
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah thats a good point.  Seems to happen to most other clubs too (despite NZ commentators/media harping on about it like it only affects the warriors).

Still, if you look at our talent and the core of our team - the next 2-3 years we should be contending every year, this year included I suppose.

It's always a bit :S with our form/start of season expectations/revival etc anyway lol.

You would have Ukuma Tai in there surely???

He is going to be huge next year..not that he is small now!!
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
WE are really going to miss Tate in the center's. Inu really does not inspire me.

Keep the same 2 halves, Maybe we need to sign another hooker too.
It could be time that Johnson comes up at trys it at the big time.

The key signing is Mateo he can fire then watch out. Other than that we have lost a few players and we have also gained a few.

Oh yeah Ukuma Ta'ai - forgot about him!  In that case he gets the spot on the bench along with Matulino, Rapira, Herimia/Hooker/halves cover.  My bad.

We can still get a home semi, but it's dependent on other results:

We have to beat the Eels

The Tigers have to beat the Titans

The Cowboys have to beat the Roosters (Ha!) or, just slightly more realistically, we have to beat the Eels by more than the Roosters beat the Cowboys....

If all that pans out we should play the Roosters at Mt Smart. I'm not holding my breath!

best we can finish is 5th right?

I don't know why I bother sometimes, I really don't....

If what I posted earlier happens, we'll finish 4th.

True, but as the Panthers' PD is far better than ours, I'd thought I'd go for the slightly less unbelievable scenario Jag2010-08-31 17:42:38

Man, saw the HL's of that Panthers v Dogs game, gutted for Kimmorley!  And sh*tty for us.

Also I left out Joel Moon out of the squad.  TBH he's one of our current squad players that can genuinely create something from nothing.  Not sure he's seen by management  as a starting player though.  Say right now if we didnt have Tait, I'd have no problem putting Moon in there.

And Ropati sluts me sometimes, no pressure/lack of concentration and dropping ball for no reason >_<<<<!!

I think Kevin Gordan is the fastest player in the nrl
