I know but not in a long long time.
Cody = Bourbon and Coke.
Last time i was there bourbon and cokes were very prevalent.

Imagine these academies heading over the hill to concrete bunkers of changing rooms, then having to listen to the oldies in the clubbies a few codys deep, giving them all shark for their haircuts etc.

I think the cultural guardians of Wainui would have looked upon many of the haircuts in the Wests - Olympic games with admiration. Feutz and Watson making the mullet the must-have hair style for Central Leauge marksmen.

Wanganui lead New Plymouth Rangers by two points in the Fed League with two games left, they play each other next Sunday in what could be the title decider.

Any word on whether they are interested in promo?

Wanganui Athletic btw

They are very interested in promotion from what I understand. So is NPR.
Wanganui are an interesting team I have seen them play once and they seemed to rely on some really really quick guys up the wing but they were very strong on all their tackles etc.

Only 7 goals against indicates they are pretty strong defensivly

I think i did say congrads above? Lets see if they get promoted; i think they'd bring a lot (of character, if not footballing prowess) to the central league - and it is one of my fave clubrooms to visit.

Otoh, there must be a lot of soul-searching going on up at Maidstone.

Playoffs are 10th / 17th of Oct apparently, the 17th being the long travel date. (i.e over the hill to wainui).

They'll have to do some recruiting as they didn't have a big squad this year (about 16 I think) - which just takes a couple of injuries and suspensions to have bare minimum (which was probably the case v Tawa)

Can't help having their reserves down in cap 4.

As much as we enjoy Wainui winning the league, they only have one decent player who is very  good and can get on the end of many of their long balls . Without him they would be mid table at best.

Tawa would have  beat them by passing the ball on the ground, catching out their high line and keeping their best player in check

Wainui had the best attack, but only scored 44 goals.

They also had the second-worst defence and conceded a whopping 41 goals.

A goal difference of only 3 and a points total of only 36 surely makes them the worst side to win Cap Prem ever?

It is the lowest points total to win Capital Premier, the previous low was 38 by Wairarapa in 2008

Last year the playoff games featured 11 goals.

You would expect something similar this time around too.

The League has been really competitive this year. I dont think Wainui are the worst

team to ever win it . The crowd will be huge at prouse for the second leg October 17th.

Statistically, they are the worst ever.

Are there any other league winners anywhere in the world with a goal difference of only +3?

I’d guess close and low scoring - but who knows. With the Fed game yesterday 0-0, perhaps those two teams approach key games somewhat defensively

I don’t think it makes them the worst league, if you watched any of the league or even the table you would’ve seen that it was a very tight league with any team being able to beat anyone.. which shows were in week 16 there were still 5-6 teams that could still end up in relegation, and 2 teams to still win it - I think it’s been the tightest league for a few years... I’ve never seen anyone go down to goals scored and conceded to determine if a team is good or the “worst side ever” but hey there is always a new way to look at the table.

/Would not the second leg be at the Central Federation winner's ground?  I understood the playoffs were to be rotated every year - last year first game at Central Fed, 2nd game at Capital Fed (Petone).  If rotation is correct, first game should be at Wainui.

it is a random draw isn't it? (like the Napier u19s)

Regulation 12.3 - Central League Regulation - Playoffs

"The first home game will be given on a rotational basis to each federation i.e. 2019 – Central
team will have the choice if they want the first home game, 2020 the Capital team will"

Can I assume Wainui has been given the option

I was in Wanganui and watched the PN Marist v Wanganui Athletic game. Marist well deserved the points, a pity they couldnt do that consistently through the season they showed just how class of a side they can be on their day. 2 Goals against a team who had only conceded 7 all season before that is a good effort. Even the Athletic supporters were applauding the goals (well the ones next to me).

Wanganui is an interesting place, two clubs playing out of the same grounds with clubrooms ontop of each other that generally seem to dislike each other (to put it mildly), the City club were cheering wildly for Marist even though they had played the Marist reserves in the game before.

Also  saw on FB that Marist meet NP in Bulls at the Pub to celebrate with them

All clubs in Wanganui play out of Wembley Park its just City and Athletic have clubrooms there as well.

Always been a love\hate relationship between the two clubs even though most players have probably played for both at one time or another.

I heard Marist had the trophy with them which is why they stopped in Bulls to give it to New Plymouth Rangers
