Looks as though the result stands as well, a few Naenae supporters were saying yesterday the game will need to be replayed but the results up on the CF website.

well its one thing when a ref abandons a game for the players safety but whats the deal when a ref abandons its for his own health?

There is some leeway to replay the match though.

1)
Any match abandoned for any reason shall be reported immediately to the Manager.   This responsibility lies with the Referee, if present, or the Home team.   After considering the facts, the Manager may decide that:
a)
the score at the time of the abandonment shall stand, providing a minimum of 60 minutes have been played, or
b)
the match will be re-scheduled to another date.

At half time the referee asked both captains if they wanted to play 15 more minutes than call it a result, being 2-1 down naturally our answer was no and BNU agreed to carry on, we had a really fast turn around and began again - then about ten seconds after they score their third goal the ref abandons it and runs for the changing rooms. We all head inside and start stripping down, jumping into showers etc Jamie Cross came in and told both teams to get changed and that we had to finish the game with him refeering because you cant abandon a game on turf. Naturally both teams were sort of hesistant to get back into freezing cold wet kits and it was then decided not sure by who that the game wouldn't continue.

what did he mean "you can't abandon a game on the turf"??
what if it starts snowing and you don't have an orange ball?
Or someone drives onto the turf with a truck load of poo??
interesting rules no one has ever heard about seem to come out whenever a game is abandoned!

Does anyone know if the changing sheds at wakefield are open yet? Don't fancy playing tomorrow night and not being able to have a hot shower there afterwards. bun12011-07-24 20:29:24

Yep, they've been open since the turf officially opened.

Amazingly close league. North Wellington (after losing to IBU the week before) drill Miramar for their first loss in 9 or so games. Welly Utd beat IBU after being smashed mid week by Lower Hutt.
While Petone go about another methodical (?) 1 nil victory to strengthen their title credentials.

CAPITAL 1:
Wellington United     3    Island Bay United     0
Kapiti Coast Utd      0    Petone               1
Brooklyn Northern     3    Naenae               1
Miramar Rangers       0    North Wellington      5

SUnday 24th July:
Lower Hutt            1    Waterside Karori      1

                      P W D L GF GA Pts
Petone               15 10 2 3 29 12 32
Waterside Karori      15 8 4 3 34 24 28
North Wellington      15 8 2 5 29 21 26
Island Bay United     15 6 3 6 22 24 21
Wellington United     14 5 4 5 32 26 19
Lower Hutt            15 5 4 6 35 33 19
Brooklyn Northern     15 6 1 8 21 27 19
Miramar Rangers       15 5 4 6 28 34 19
Kapiti Coast Utd      15 4 3 8 21 30 15
Naenae               14 3 1 10 23 43 10

Only 2 points between 4th and 8th, not taking into account the game in hand for WU and Naenae.

One of the most interesting factors being that we each have one team we have not played at all yet.
Pity I can't work it all out from Cap Football's website which is supposed to have all results on it.

From memory (after talking to players from other teams)
Miramar have Naenae twice (perhaps the best draw)
Wellington United have North Wellington twice (probable spoiles shared?)
Brooklyn have Karori twice (perhaps a chance for Karori to catch Petone? as...)
Petone have Lower Hutt twice (possible choking hazard for Petone considering Hutt's latest results?)
Island Bay have Kapiti twice

I think the first of these 'double headers' will be played this week, and it'll be intriguing to see how the ties will go the second time around, with them being only 2 weeks apart.
Great end to the season anyway...

So that's basically it for Naenae then aye? 9 points off safety with 9 points available and a bad goal diff.

And Brooklyn 2-0 over Karori almost gauranteeing Petone the title.

Brilliant League.

Kapiti in serious trouble too with only an in form Lower Hutt (with 9 points available themselves) within reach.

3 away wins today sets up the return matches in two weeks as well.

Yeah that's quite a feat, dropping two divs in two seasons.
And a bit of a pity when it means two more first teams dropping further for a second team (Tawa). At least Varsity should be welcomed back.

It's just how it works these days, go and look at the results from previous years, always generally the smaller clubs first teams that go down can't keep up with the big clubs when they have the ability to stack sides. Not that Miramar did much, we were winning 2-0 with 80 to go until our CB decided to try and save the ball on the line, then they got a ridiculous deflected goal and Keano took a lovely dive in the box for the 2nd penalty.

What happened to Mar losing the points to KCU or whatever it was due to shifting pitches?

So chance of Naenae going down again next year?
They'll lose more players no doubt.
What's happening with Russell? Coaching again?

A chance? They look pretty much gone to me. I think KCU are still a chance for a double down though, in fact LHC only have to win one of their last three in send KCU packing. So the double-double-down looks like the most likely outcome.

Whats amazing about this league is how average most of the teams are. I'd definitely say our demise hasn't come from teams outplaying us or from other teams brilliance, but more from our own stupidity and wrong decisions at the wrong times. No excuse for our poor performance but I don't think the level in this grade is anything fantastic.
