Hey Prof....

we're playing you again this week and you're down for reffing again. You happy to do this (we did it last time) or are you struggling for numbers?

at this stage i think we have 12, I've suggested to the guy who'll be in charge to ask to ref a half each, seems fair seeing it's a one off game.

It was a preferring game last time we played te whaea against naenae.

I guess the flat surface allows us to play our Barcelona-esque passing game

We have Naenae this Wednesday.. Hope it goes well..
We remind ourselves that we were 4-0 down after like 15 minutes last time we played them before it got called off. Here is hoping for this week.
We train on Artificial and some have played almost every game this season on it. Advantage?
Permalink Permalink

I'd say it takes away a possible disadvantage if anything.

If you're good and play on an artificial every week, that'd be good. Else if you're rubbish, the muddy pitches can sometimes act as an equaliser.

Petone for Shore vs Karori Rovers

@ Te Whaea

Petone 3(1) - Karori 1(1)

Match report.....DUNNO COS I CAN'T REMEMBER A BIG SECTION OF THE GAME!

Karori striker pushes the Petone defender in the back as I (the keeper) come out to smother the ball. This push results in my head connecting at full speed into the defender shoulder. I'm pretty much out cold for 15 seconds and the striker who did the pushing, has a shot blocked and still continues to play while everyone is yelling 'kick out the ball'.

Poor sportsmanship in my mind and later in the game we were hot on attack, a Karori player goes down with a bit of cramp up the other end of the field....what do we do? Kick the ball out so he can recover.

The push and claiming of the goal set the tone for the rest of the game which became VERY niggly and finished a few minutes early by the ref as elbows and late tackles started flying from both teams. We'll take the win and the moral highground though.....

edit: ...and I'm now out for a week with concussion...thanks for that!

Get off.

He was nowhere near your defender, you ran straight into each other. How could you possibly see a push when you're going for the ball. I'm
Sorry you have a concussion but accusing someone of something like that is not on. your own referee didn't even give it a freekick,so there's your first clue.

It was an open goal 1 yard out,you really expect him to kick it out instead of into the goal?

Maybe calm down and think about things before you post buddy.

I could go on about the borderline psycho antics of one of your players, but I won't. There was only one team acting like children last night, and it wasn't us.

I'm sorry mods,but feel it's necessary to defend my team here...Tegal2011-08-06 15:47:03

So how was it possible for a defender to have almost stopped and then suddenly be projected forward.....oh yeah, and also the 4 or 5 people in line with the play on the sideline who saw the push? Of course a game is going to get niggly after that kind of poor sportsmanship....and the goal celebration with not ONE player from your side checking to see if I was ok.....really, really poor especially after offering to help you out with a ref when we knew you might be short.

I'm sorry mods, but feel it's necessary to defend my team here...

I thought you were out cold for 15 seconds? Immediately after tapping the ball in the first thing the striker did was check to see you were ok. Nobody else was really near you.

From the refs point of view (and mine) it wasn't a push,he was nowhere near the defender, you just ran into him. I think the ref had a better view than you.

That is still no reason for you guys to use that ad a reason to act like children for the rest of the match. One guy in particular was an absolute psycho who was quite deliberately hurting people (he'd call it then do it) that's why I reacted near the end of the game. He then responded that I'll get a massive hole in me next time.

Psycho.

We had one admittedly bad tackle, but there was no intent or premeditation about it.

You guys were mouthing off like children at us and your own ref for the entire game. It was embarrassing.

You should probably take another look at yourselves before claiming the moral highground.

Interesting......you had several players warned for late tackles in the first half and the ref said he couldn't see the push as he was behind the striker.....interesting you didn't mention or dispute what the people on the sideline saw. At the end of the game both teams were guilty, us of some dodgy tackles and your team of swinging elbows. The better team won just a shame that as I said, poor sportsmanship early on set the tone for the game & whether some of the retaliation from both teams was wrong, it still stemmed from that point and how your team chose to handle it.
Permalink Permalink
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
We handled it fine. Defender and keeper run into each other, striker gets the ball a yard out from the goal, taps it in,then checks if you were alright.

From that point on you guys let it be an excuse to act like idiots. It didn't have to be.

I actually thought it was mostly a good game aside from that one guy on your side, and all the yelling at us and your own ref. By the end it had turned into a farce though,I have to take some of the blame for that for reacting to him.

I think the damage was done at that moment. Out perception of events is different from yours. Yes, both teams behaved badly and one or two on BOTH sides. Our guys are traditionally not like that which should have been evident from previous meetings so something triggered it.
Permalink Permalink
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah neither is ours.

As I said, you guys took that event as an excuse to act like idiots. It didn't really have to happen did it?

It's one of those things where you saw what you saw and we saw what we saw. The striker is tame as,he's not the sort of guy who would do something like that. And from what I saw he didn't. But you guys obviously saw something different.

I do hope youre feeling alright though,it was a bad looking collision. Didnt realise you came off that badly though. Pretty brave of you to play the rest of the game!

Not sure they used it as an excuse and we thought that things were a it physical from the outset from you as well, maybe due to the fast open football on that pitch? Wasn't implying your striker was a dirty player, simply over enthusiastic going fo the ball and could have been a free kick our way.

Now I think of it, more stupid than brave to play on with concussion.

Yeah there were a few bad tackles aye (on in particular from us should have been a red!). It certainly wasn't malicious though. Probably like you said, too used to playing on slow muddy pitches!

agreed. You had a blinding chance when it was 2-0 which could have swung the momentum. In the 2nd half though you hardly ventured westward towards our goal, although Steve your Chinese lad should have scored from a far post cross. We were a bit tired i think- a few injuries and illnesses meant we were all running at about 80% plus it was too damn hot!

you could have done with a sub on the sideline as well though- where was your squad?

We drew 3-3 with Legends.

They are a good team. They started well and had us on the back foot early and went 1 up. We made a few changes to our shape and got some parity and created quite a few chances on the break, hit the post, header just over from just in front, missed when on-on-one with the keeper and finally got the equaliser. Scored two more unanswered but the Legends with their possession football were starting to tire us out, we couldn't press them high up the pitch and started to drop deeper. Still 3-1 with about 15-20min to go and they started getting all over us and pulled two back late on. If the game went for more 10min they probably would have won it.

a good chunk of the squad were away up the mountains, two in particular hurt the midfield a bit. From where I was playing at LB I reckon we had two must score chances ion the 1st which would have made it a very interesting finaish....I still can't get over the fact that our first shot managed to hit the cross bar above your keeper - had to be the more difficult option between scoring and not.

7:40pm @ Wakefield #1 on Monday.....

We're down as the home team so have already organised a ref who does most of our homes games and people are generally happy with his from both sides.

We're likely to have 15 due to some injuries but no ring-ins...all regular team players and about 3 of them can't be there until ON or AFTER kick off.

Looking forward to it!!

Lights went out with 5 to go which was a bit frustrating as I was enjoying the game. Earlier game must have gone a bit long.
