One thing about the Velo, unlikely as parks stand weatherwise this week, but if you step on the entrance side and find it is nice and solid, don't assume the other side under the bank is...

My understanding if you do get red carded in the lower leagues you just have to sit out 10-15 minutes and pay Capital Football some monies. not sure how much truth there is to this.

A yellow card from an official Referee is $37 or something around there, however, i doubt anyone would report a card in the lower leagues(or even have one on them!) so you can skip the money issue there
i can confirm  that div 7 wgtn utd tce  DO have a set of yellow and red cards, at least the ref they used against us at melrose the other week had them and was quite happy to show the yellow coloured one to our C.B,oh how we LOL'd, whether or not it was reported  too capital soccer i don't know

We all know its the Slayers who are doing the rain dance cause they are scared of the mighty Martians

You lucky bastards...haha. We shouldn't need ring-ins this week I believe, just in case Mana were hoping they could get their inevitable loss overturned.

Is that gun player whose hat trick made the difference in our first meeting playing?
If so can we remove his sprigs before we start to make it fairer?

Was your goal the one where a 1k wind would have blown it over the line?

Is that 18 people, or 18 on the Richter scale?

I'm hoping for no cancellations tomorrow, although it's not looking good.  Missed 4 weeks of great fixtures with a calf tear, and a week with a chest infection.     A match against the Slayers is just what the doctor ordered.  On past games it will be a close match, played in the right spirit.  An getting soaking wet & covered in mud like a hippo.  Perfecto!

We dont win too many so the points earned for a win is a bit of an unknown for us but we do know you get nothing for a loss

Not to be a cheeky bugger, but when in the season does it become late enough to stop saving the pitches? It's not that I'm publicly bitching about not playing(in fact i enjoyed the sleep in), I just wondered what view Capital Wellington had on the issue and if there is a time in the season(any year) when they go 'ah f*ck it, we'll play anyway!'

Not really an option given that within two weeks of the season finishing the parks need to be turned around for Softball and Cricket (yes, there are other sports) and/or a maintenance period to get them ready for the next season.

Put on top of that the ad hoc pressure from, for example, on again/off again All Whites games , Nix trainings, Springbox tours, and Third Division Chinese Sunday League teams challinging Nix for charity and the increasing trend towards Summer Football (Sportzone!) and you start to see the pressure mounting.

"Capital Wellington" (do you mean Capital Football?) work across 6 Councils and need to balance all of that pressure and do there best to make sure games are played (some lower grade games probably should have gone ahead today -yes) and in my 8 nyears of playing in Div 8 we only had one season that fell short, by one game (05 i think?).

it can't be a nice position to be in, a sports loving grounds man with the weekend rolling around and the dark clouds looming.. contrary to some peoples opinion, the Parks staff also play and have kids who play and know what its like to be dissapointed on Sunday morning.

but good question Sealad- short answer is yes, they will get to apoint where they say bugger it. and no, this is not in the grounds mans best practice bible...

We dont like cheating in our grade , thats why theres no Tawa teams in it. Keep your unwelcome comments to your own grade.

Not liking the look of this rain.....

Why why why are the Martians and Mana so afraid of the mighty Slayer's they spend all week doing rain dances before the games?????
Permalink Permalink

I personally think its Slayers who are afraid of running, and they are the rain dancers...looking forward to tomorrow we have no Jim Orpe but I have no other cancellations yet.......depends on the temperature tomorrow morning I suppose

Running is to be avoided at all costs!

Don't judge the weather by Porirua standards it's always a couple of degrees warmer in UH (until the sun drops behind the hills that is).

Gale force winds forecast....that will be a gentle summer breeze for Upper Hutters isnt it? last time we played at Awaikairangi we had gale force southerlies....Ball got blown across the goal line a couple of times from memory and whenever the ball was kicked in the air, it was if a hand picked it up and threw it across the sideline... Since we only had 7 players we spent our time kicking the ball away and making the Slayers run for it

I purposely wiped the result from memory but thinking back the score line was 7-2 to the Slayers approximately

Was that he hand ball one or the offside one?
As usual Slayers a great bunch of guys to play but the ref forgot his glasses.

I was well onside buddy how could you see from half way standing beside the ref?

I thought the ref had one of his better games, if his calls were wrong they were certainly debateable, no glaring errors. I have seen a lot worse

You guys did well in that last 10 minutes, took advantage of our cockiness. The second and third goals came after I subbed off as well, never knew I was such an important player
