looks like a very interesting round.

Marist have a tough assignment at Crawford Park.
United may have a chance to improve their current form, but watch out for UHC.
Gossies haven't won in about 4 games and will look at doing their best against Stop Out, who could still come away with the points.
The Tawa Derby will bring excitement to all the football fans in the Tawa-Granada area :D
Karori have a golden chance to resurrect their season at home against University.

Hopefully, with a break in the weather, all these games will go ahead on Saturday.

Indeed, should be a good game. the boys have been talking it up all year, from both teams.

hopefully the brothers will get stuck into it straight away.

Wellington United     3    Upper Hutt City       2

Tawa B                1    Tawa A                3
Karori Vistas         0    University 1st XI     1

tawa b v tawa a
good game out in kura street.... with a rather large crowd. start of game was pretty even with both teams playing nervous football. but then tawa a went up and proceeded to dominate for the remainder, with tawa b deciding to turn up for the last 10 minutes to get a consolation goal.
In the end there wasn't actually that much in it - the difference being tawa b hade some horrible lapses at the back to let "a" go 2 nil up at half time.

all in all good to finally play some footy after a couple of weeks off.

Gossies 1 - 1 Stop Out.
Fiery and interesting encounter at Kelburn Park. Stop Out had a very young team full of flair and handy kids who did a great job. We were the usual mix of young and old and played a good game. They scored early in the game with a cracker from just outside the box (though we should have cleared that ball 10 seconds earlier) and we equalized with a nice trough ball and cool Matt Wilson finishing. Could easily have been 3-3 or more. Lots of tackles but good to see that everything ended at the final whistle and the SO lads came up to our clubrooms for a beer.

Shame our catch up game with Upper Hutt was cancelled today, would have been nice to complete the round.

Was awesome to play on the turf, can play with more confidence on the ball due to the lack of bobbles and awkward bounces, Vistas battled hard for the whole ninety and almost pinched a draw at the end. Strikers are yet to truly fire for us but our defence is looking especially sound which is a big plus. Going to be a tough run in almost all the teams in the grade in with a shot.

I was at the stop out vs gossies game on the weekend and I think its fair to say that the gossies were fairly lucky to get a draw. Stop Out had most of the possession for the whole game and whelst they didnt always turn that possession into chances, they definitly had the better oppertunities to win the game and will be fairly dissapointed that they didnt. Gossies are a good side tho and also had a few chances, how-ever the through ball for the gossies goal went straight to the centre back who scored the goal for stop out and it went straight under his foot, pretty lucky really.

Totally agree with your other comments tho, it was great to see everything left on the field and a full clubrooms as you dont always get that and its a shame that it depends on who you are playing as to weather they might come back into the clubrooms.

Good battling win for us against a Karori side that had obviously benefited from their 1st team having the weekend off. Went up 2-0 before Karori came back through a penalty and some average defence on our part to make it 2-2.

Second half we played some pretty good football and went up 4-2 till Karori got a third (one of the biggest offsides I have seen missed in a game I was playing in) to make the last five interesting.

Sets it up nicely for the game against Marist on Saturday, going to be a great game i reckon.

It was actually 0-0 this time. We did play SO two weeks ago and it was 1-1. And I disagree with the comments above that we were lucky to get a draw. Two weeks ago it was a very balanced game. Both teams could have won it, and that includes us.

However, last saturday they were unlucky not to get the 3 points. We were missing a hundred players. We had 3 guys from our 4th team in the starting line-up and one more on the bench. We decided to play defensively and to keep them out, and that we did. They had 3-4 good chances and a few ping-pong balls in the box but couldn't convert. We just played counter attack.
The game was a lot less fiery than two weeks ago, though they had one player sent off for dissent (I think screaming at the ref "you sh*t"! qualifies as dissent) and one of their most experience players at the back (english fella with reddish hair) had a brain explosion and two-footed one of us, and then blind sided him and was lucky not to be sent off. He was also lucky to have struck the most peaceful guy on the planet.
Other than that, SO have a quality squad. Lots of nippy class youngsters and a few experienced buggers (no. 8, with no hair but a great long-range pass), Scotty the skipper and the above mentioned English man.

Marist 1 Olympic 3 - Transfered to Crawford Green.

We had a good game v Marist, Olympic went 3-0 up in the first 30 mins, then the ref awarded Marist a dodgy penalty, apparently as our defender chested the ball back to the keeper he handled it! None of the Marist players challenged, and both teams walked back ready for keeper to kick out! but the ref said penalty! apart from that, second half pretty even.

Marist had 8 subs, talking to a couple of the 2nd team players who were gutted they were dropped, to allow some first team players to play! from the last game we played about 3 weeks ago, they had about 5 different players, but you are going to ge that when the 1st team isnt playing. but if they were first team, they must be in trouble ,they werent that good and their passing was a bit off!!

We had a skeleton lineup as 3 players currently in SA watching WC and 2 on holiday, 4 injured! so we had to call on some of the younger Olympic players (15 yr olds) who had a good game coming off the bench!

All in all, we desereved to win, a team full of mainly 40 yr old guys held their own with a couple of good goals! Chris Christie (45) got the first, Tommy Z (33) got the 2nd and Tony V (43) got the last one!

Our keeper played well!

Good bit of banter on the sidelines which is good to see!

Not looking forward to the return match v Tawa A on the Artificial turf on Sat 5pm! they took us to pieces last time beating us 4-2, was really wanting to play them on grass, where we could match them and play a slower game which suits us! but who knows! This league is up in the air, everyone beating everyone! so all to play for!

Really enjoying it this year coaching!

You are right Blocker in the fact that Marist had some 'first teamers' playing for them, but only as they had played for the first team the week before (for the first time all year, and as subs), because the first team was extremely short. Out of the players on the field, I think one guy was a fully fledged member of the first team, but his season has been on and off through injuries pretty badly.

But it was hardly like we stacked the seconds with first team regulars.

Either way though, sounds like you guys thoroughly deserved the win, so congrats to ya

Yea I suppose in the 1st game its fair to say the gossies had chances to win, having said that they were still the more fortunate of the 2 teams to get a point thats for sure. It was pretty sad to see a team come out and just try and stop the other team from playing as appose to trying to play and have a crack at them when they finally manage to get the ball, especially  in cap 2. I realise you had lots of players out but its not good for anyone when a team comes out and plays like that. Good bunch of dudes tho the gossie lads, they know how to leave what happens on the field out there and always seem to be back in the clubrooms no matter what.

Thanks man, I totally agree with you. I take care of the Gossies on game day and I can assure you that our aim is to always go out with guns blazing, but honestly, last week that really was the best we could do! We only had 1 striker and had fullbacks playing in midfield and midfielders playing on the wing. It was a mammoth task as SO were a very classy side, especially in the midfield! Those couple of youngsters are going to play National League I reckon, and Scotty is always Scotty.

Anyway, good luck to everyone on Sat (if we indeed get to play). I'm actually planning a 'different' weekend as I have a very bad feeling about Cap 2 on Sat!

Just a side note, WCC needs to get the changing rooms sorted or at least provide some shelter on a day like today. Nowhere to shelter from the rain at all, players who came off during game had nowhere to change.

Harden up man - there's been women's football at the turf every sunday for a month - and it's been peeing down every sunday, and a couple with a nasty southerly - without an whinge on here. They've been having to get changed either in the car park or at the side of the pitch.

The turf isn't officially open yet - that block in the far corner that looked awfully like changing rooms might give you a subtle hint as to what will be available once the facility is offically opened.

If there wasn't the turf - you wouldnt have had a game at all to today.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Hey Ginger,
it still doesn't mean you have to get pneumonia. I'm all for playing in the rain, cold, snow (read further down), but at least you have the reward of a warm shower and clean clothes afterwards.

Uni Gossies - Upper Hutt City ---> Postponed.

Basically, and I don't understand why, there had been 1 x Junior and 1 x Capital 13 game on Kelburn Park prior to 230pm, hence the pitch turned to bog. As I said elsewhere, I applaud CF for giving EVERYONE a game, and ka pai to them for cancelling capital 1 etc yesterday. But it makes no sense to play Cap 13 on Kelburn Park. When I was playing down the grades it was always Nairnville or Happy Valley.

Anyway, the ref first gave us the nod. We did our warm up, set up the nets etc and then she changed her mind and called it off as, according to her, "once a game starts, it has to be finished" which was her response to our "let's try for 10minutes and if it's not working we'll all go home".

Surely this rule doesn't exist? I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that if you start a game and then a blizzard hits, the ref has the right to say: "guys, these aren't safe playing conditions so let's go home".

Anyway I'm probably just pissed off I wasted my whole saturday for nothing. Also, is it true that the game at Onepoto was also called off?

Im sorry ginger eejit, was just making the point it would have been good. I understand we wouldnt have played and it was excellent to play. Just something to think about with conditions like that, I played in a game back in the Wairarapa a couple of years back where a friend of mine had to be rushed to hospital with hypothermia (his heart stoppedon the way) due to the conditions and up there yesterday was just as cold.

nope we played and got spanked 4 nil from Wellington united.
All the play was in one corner. horrible conditions.
we (tawa) were simply awful.

Actually I never gave the nod :-)  I advised both teams I wouldn't make a call until the 12.30 match finished.  It was obvious that the pitch was not playable.  Over 50% was covered in water..  Once a game starts it has to be played unless the playing surface becomes a danger to those playing.

which, if I stand correct, means that you can get the game underway and then cancel it?

doesn't matter anyway, it super cold anyway. You're lucky you couldn't get ya bollocks frozen like we did!!!

There's no point in starting a game if there is a good chance the game could be cancelled, all you've done if further damage a pitch for a game that has to be replayed.

Of course if the pitch starts out playable, but conditions change during the game to stage it endangers player safety then the game could be abandoned

True, but given the pitch was in no condition to play when I arrived, it was not worth starting in the first place.  If the conditions remain safe to play (ie the weather isn't of sufficient standard to continue - eg hail etc) then we would have had to play the entire match - on a pitch which would have frustrated everyone with the ball not rolling etc.
