Sorry to hear about your players injury, wish him all the best from us.  Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery.  As for the game it was a goody, we were impressed with the way you guys played, it was a good game to watch from where i was standing!

Technically we are the 4ths, this is because we are a closed shop team where as the thirds are a mix of younger guys and guys fed down from the first and seconds training squads

Is Masterton the 1st team for the club?

Thanks Mark. I'm sure he will be fine. I hope it not a curse on the player of the day from the previous week, as he was our POD from last week, and i got the jacket on saturday. As captain, i wasnt disappointed with the result, as it could of been more, but we knew it would be tough. Should make the 2nd round battle a good one, as we should have gelled a bit better as a squad by then.

Zoro: Gardner Electrical Masterton is the top team for the club. We then have about 6 senior mens teams still in local league. Trevs Sports Masterton AFC is our top local team

Good win to the Gardner Electrical Masterton team on the Weekend.  A 4-1 result over Petone.  Petone only travelled with 11 and unfortunately they had an injury to the number 15, which technically dropped them to 10.  We shared the goals, with 1 from our striker, 1 each from the left and right halves and 1 from centre mid.  Great strike to Petone for their goal, volley from left hand side of 18 yard box, up into top right hand corner. With the slip up in the 1st game at home against Island Bay, we are trying to make our Hullena Park into a bit of a couldron for travelling teams, but still working towards our first away win.  Got Lower Hutt at home this weekend, and from comments from previous teams, it should be a battle, and with them going down 3-0 on the weekend, they will be up for a challenger.  All the best for the rest of the season Petone, and we will see you in the return leg.  Cheers

Yeah.  I read the first page of the results page.  Sorry.  Coming off some good form then after beating the top 2 teams.  We should go alright, but not expecting miracles.  we have had good home support which is always a bonus, and our grounds are pretty good at this stage of the year.  Hopefully its a cracker.

Good battle between Lower Hutt City and Gardner Electrical Masterton AFC yesterday.  We struck first, with a pretty good finish from our centre mid, which i think the keeper really had no chance.  The game went back and forward from there, with LHC having a majority of the chances, including a one on one, which our keeper covered very well.  Then LHC got a penalty, which to my dismay was awarded after the ball popped up and hit our player in the hand, when his hands were to his side and not out from his body.  But nevermind, penalty was well taken, to make it 1-all at half time.  The second half carried on the way the first half, with both teams playing good hard footy, with passion and determination. With about 15 to go, I was confident that we had started to press LHC a bit, and maybe push for the win, but then what i call the 'loss of the game'.  Our centre back running beside the LHC striker, completed what i thought was a beautifully timed challenge, having the ball cannon off the striker, and over the backline.  In the process of the tackle, the LHC striker attempted to jump over the centre back, not quite getting the clearance, and clipping our player on the ground, to which he fell over.  The ref pointed to the spot, and LHC took the 2-1 lead.  The 3rd goal from LHC came from us pushing players up the feild to chase the game, and a well hit drive from the #7 on the edge of the box.  It seems that the #7 hasnt scored in 2 years, and by the way he hit the 2nd shot, it will be another 2 years before he gets another one. ha ha.  Good passion, and determination by both teams, nothing off the ball, or any afters, so i thank LHC for the game, and wish them the best for the year.  No hard feelings towards the LHC team regarding the penalty shout, as i probably would of shouted for it aswell, but at the end of the day, the ref made the call, and thats that.  We have North Wellington next weekend, and if we play the same as we have done over the last 2 weeks, i think we should be ok

Hi TSMA.

Just to clarify the point of the beautifully timed tackle. The striker had indeed hit it pass the centre back , and would of more than likely went over the dead ball line, However the defender went to ground in a tackle missing the ball.  And as the striker jumped over the tackle was clipped by the defender.

At no point did the striker claim a penalty, Infact the ref was pointing at the spot before any call was made.

A good game played in good spirts, Looking forward to the return leg which seems to have come around rather quickly.

I think we have to agree to disagree.  Whats been and gone doesnt really matter now.  It was a good game, played in good spirits.  Interestingly my previous comment also made mention to your first penalty, to which the ball in-advertantley hit our players hand.  We had the same ref last week and he called play on with a number of balls onto the hand scenario.  Unfortunately it happens at every level, and changes week to week.

We are looking forward to coming over this weekend for the return leg, and with now recruiting a new striker, who scored the first and last goals in last weeks win against the Barcodes, we should have confidence in playing well. Home ground advantage always proves to be a point, but as you guys know, it doesnt always work out.

All the best for the weekend, and see you Saturday

Did they also mention that they done the ultimate sin and left their strip in wellington?  Maybe we could of taken the default, but happy to of supplied them with a full strip of shorts and shirts to use.  Maybe that was the start of a bad day for them.  I didnt think the ref was too bad, but then I am the captain of Masterton and i would say that after we won.....

Ha they did say someone forgot the kit. Had to go to the warehouse to buy socks. Cheers for the strip- not exactly a quick trip back to go and get it.

After a few weeks have been since i posted last, and a couple of results going our way, and not our way, i would like to take this opportunity to thank the teams we have already played twice and wont see again this year.

Lower Hutt:  Good bunch of guys that play a great style of footy.  Seems a whole better attitude from what i had heard it was from last year.

Island Bay:  Battled hard to get the points after being 1-nil down but seems a different team from when we played them in the first game.

Barcodes:  Good game at Hullena earlier on, and played until the end two weeks ago, to only just lose 1 nil, and give us our first away win.

Cougars:  A completely different team from when they played us a Hullena.  Good to get pay back from that result.

In all so far, no team has been a disappointment in attitude, or style of football.  have enjoyed the year so far, and with 5 games to play, hopefully we can get a few more wins and cement our place in Cap 3 for next year.  Will be an interesting season next year as to date, the possibility of 4 Wairarapa teams in cap 3.  With Greytown leading the local league and looking at Cap 3 promotion, Villa at the bottom battling to strive off relegation to Cap 3 from Cap 2 and Wairarapa United 2nds currently sitting 3rd in Cap 4 pushing for promotion, should make for some interesting "local" battles.

Congratulations Lower Hutt and Island Bay for getting promotion to Cap 2. All we need now is for Uni to lose, and barcodes to lose and us to beat Marist next week and we will stay up. But you never know. We had a good win today against North Wellington. Down 1 nil with 8 mins to go, we equalized and then they have us an own goal to make it 2-1 up. Good work lads.

Island Bay still need to win this weekend to get promoted, otherwise leaves Petone Armanis a door open, if they win their last 2 games put them on 35 points. Clear of Island Bay.  Of course this doesn't help Masterton in staying up.

Good Luck for this weekend everyone.

If Upper Hutt go up to Central League at the expense of Maycenvale there will only be one relegation per grade, and i think this is farely likely going to happen.

So AJ13, top spot only get promoted.....

Also if someone joins Cap 3 like Greytown then that would mean bottom 2 still relegated?

Oops sorry Shady, i didnt see that Armanis have 2 games left, not 1.  All we have to do is win our game and see how the other games eventuate.

Greytown won the Local league last weekend and i have heard they are taking the Cap 3 birth they are entitled to.  this means 10th, 9th and 8th will be relegated.  If things fall our way this weekend, we will end up 7th.  So would stay up.....but if Horowhenua put a team in, we are gone.  On the Upper Hutt note, this would mean 10th and 9th relegated, with Greytown taking the 9th place.

Also with Wairarapa United 2nds sitting 2nd on the cap 4 table, the possibility of 3 Wairarapa based teams could be on the cards.

So on that note, C'mon North Wellington and Island bay, and we will do our part

From Cap Prem? Yes only top team have a shot at CL. Every other grade? Generally top 2 yes, except for Cap1 and 2 it depends on a few things (you cant have more than 1 club from the same club in those grades)

[quote=shady1]Also if someone joins Cap 3 like Greytown then that would mean bottom 2 still relegated?

Ahh yes i didnt account for an extra team coming through from the Rapa. Now that i think about it the only reason 1 team was relegated last season i think was because of Paekak pulling the plug. So yeah i guess its fair to assume bottom 2 will go down

Don't think Rapa AND Horo can put new teams in?

Yes, feverish they can. Winners of Wairarapa and horowhenua have the right of entry

If that is not the case, and both regions want to come into cap 3, they should do a home and away playoff.

Well after a great result yesterday against an under strength Marist 4-2, with one of our strikers getting all four goals, we expected the other results go our way but it was not to be. With Uni beating Island Bay and Barcodes beating North Wellington, our fate has been sealed with ending up in 9th.

Now I am unsure if Uni and Barcodes had any help with the dropping of players, which we dont get the luxury of doing, because they were at risk of being relegated, but at the end of the day, we didn't produce consistent results during the year, and shouldn't rely on what other teams are doing. All in all,it has been a good season in the Cap 3 grade, and with our squad building up, and preseason planning already starting, I think we will do ok in cap 4.

Thanks to all the teams we played against, the officials, the food and bar people behind the scenes, and of course Capital Football.

Regards

Douglas Gardner
