All quiet on the div 7 front so I will get things moving.  5 teams return from a competitive league last year, with the hypocrites and wests up from cap 8.  From what I saw Wests beat the crap out of everyone in cap 8 so are looking dangerous.  My LH Mooseknuckles look for some consistency this year after a ridiculous season of 2 halves in 2010.  Up against Miramar in week 1 - I'm assuming they came from div 6.  Scouting report?

CAPITAL 7:

Miramar Rangers __ Lower Hutt City __ Miramar 3 (12.30);

Uni Raiders __ Marist Cobras __ Anderson (12.30);

Nth Wgtn Varsity __ Wgtn United Elite __ Nairnville 2 (2.30);

Naenae Hypocrits __ Western Suburbs __ Naenae 1 (2.30).

Naenae side will probably look alot different.  Many of the Hypocrites have moved to other sides or retired so it will look more like a club third team.

Wests will be strong again i believe (they have a few ex-Hypocrites).

How's my driving? - Whine here

Wests were far too good last year, would expect much the same this season. Full of quality former 1st team squad from years gone by.

Think a few of the Wests team from last year have left but more of the same standard have come in.

I have joined the Wests team having played Cap 2 for Tawa last year.  Have no idea how good our side will be compared to everyone else, don't really know what the level is like in Cap 7.
Looking forward to the season starting this weekend though!

Why are some of the ex-hypocrites playing for Western Suburbs? My mate played for Cap 8 Olympic last year, when I told him he was baffled. He compared it to some of 90's Wimbledon joining current Barcelona

There were 3 ex-hypocrites playing for wests last season. Two of them were there leading goal scorers last year. They played for the Hypocrites in 2008 and 2009.

The Nighthawks marquee signing.  I have a feeling its going to turn out as well as Wellington Phoenix marquee signing of Ahmad Elrich.

Miramar Rangers 3 - 5 Lower Hutt as Lower Hutt continues their footballing philosophy of "score one more than you". Bit of a rusty start from both sides but some good football being played at the end.

Nth Wellington 3 Elite 2.  North Wellington up 2 nil at half time.  Elite come back to make it 2 all.  Penalty to North Wellington in the last couple of minutes of the game was the difference.  Its best to say that it was probably the softest foul given all game.  North Wellington were probably the better side but still a tough pill to swallow.

Look forward to the rematch at home with our ref.....

iv never seem them play but I think its fair to say the consensus is that wests will end up on top.  Lil Joe (keeper) went for the often underused 'do nothing and watch the ball loop/curl into the top corner from 30 yards' for one of Mirimar's goal.  I think you couldv saved it.

wests 8 naenae 0...prob shoulda been about 15..hypocrites have a completely different team from last year though....everyone had the rusty shooting boots on and was trying to walk the ball into the net..."Noel" their keeper made some great saves....looking forward to playing miramar next week......

Noel played his best game hes ever played for the hypocrites.  Shame he never played like that last season.  You guys could of won 20nil. Wests look like the team to beat this season, they wouldnt look out of place in they were in cap3 or 4.

No and I was lucky that I didn't predict a clean sheet for me otherwise it would have ended up even worse as Lower Hutt crash to a 1 - 5 loss to Uni Raiders. Lack of a midfield presence meant Uni tore us apart as they could have, and probably should have scored a bit more.

Was one of the worst I've seen us play.

That's okay...Western Suburbs next week. WE'LL HAVE EM

Wests 8 - 1 Miramar.

Miramar started with ten players, despite having 2 subs on the sideline.  They were 1 nil up after 10 minutes, then brought on their 11th player.  Maybe should have left things as they were.

Goalkeeper here. We were absolutely torn apart. Couldn't keep hold of the ball for a second. As soon as we got a touch we'd give it straight back to them. Our distribution from goal kicks was abysmal, every kick went straight back to them, and whilst I made a few good saves I did also contribute to the odd goal...slightly, one being a weak shot at my near post which I was certain was going wide...was wrong. Awful.

We'll do them at Fraser, don't worry.

Oh...and I could have swore it was 12...but I kind of lost count.

Saved a penalty though! Not all bad...hahaha

I think Wests are going to lol right through this grade, and the next, and the next... etc, they could easily play in the likes of Cap2
Permalink Permalink
almost 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
We (wests) have been told that if we rack up some high early scores in this grade then they might put us in a higher grade after a few games.  Apparently they said the same last year so remains to be seen if they'll stick with that.  Can't see who it benefits having mismatches like this.

Exactly my thoughts. Wests are the kind of club who need a team in at least Cap 3 or higher. I live in Whitby, played all my junior footy for Wests, but currently play for BNU, and I know quite a few other players in the 'Wests catchment area' who only play for clubs in wellington and the hutt purely due to the lack of depth out this way...  I went to BNU in 2004 because:

A: Being a born and bread Wests player, I hated Tawa, so there was no way i was going out there...
B: i knew (at the time) i wouldnt make the Wests Cap Reserve squad, they were a really good squad at the time and already had alot of established players
C: Wests didnt have any other teams to play in outside of the reserves
D: BNU were newly promoted to Cap Prem and Cap Reserve so I went along in hope of some game time... success.

I really hope you guys get put up a few grades, youre far too good to be pissing around in the lower leagues, and theres so much talent out that this way its almost insulting that Wests dont have a 3rd squad higher than Cap 7.

I know for a fact that a few dudes out this way are following you guys fairly closely in hope of playing for you in the near future and boosting the rep out this way.

Back in 2004 we would have had a 3rd team in about Cap 3, but a lack of players meant it had to be canned.  I think alot of people got put off wests because of the strong focus on 1sts and 2nds and nothing else.  I've just returned to the club this year and can see the change from when I left in around 2006.  Hopefully we'll start attracting a few more players back to the club so we can get some more teams between Cap 10 and Cap 2.

it could have been closer (maybe single figures?) but we gave up fairly early on. no fun for either side with these sorts of scores

No doubt.  But would be good for all concerned if they weren't.
