Agree with you Hubminator. The game was fairly even. We are improving but the soft goals are hurting us. Enjoyed the game and it was good to see our young side competing, we now need to create a few more scoring chances cancel out the defensive errors and we should be able to pick up points.
How's your skipper going?

He's fine, thanks for asking, he was discharged after about an hour and came down to kilbirnie to watch part of our first team game . Good luck to you lads, hope some results come your way!

Yes, thanks for asking Nakisponge. I definitely only lived up to the silent part of my nickname on Saturday because I was well and truly assassinated!!!   No malice in it - just one of those unintentional things that unfortunately can happen in football. I was really enjoying the game till that point and all.

So anyway, I'm getting better. Got a hell of a lump on my jaw and still a wee bit fuzzy in the old head but no lasting damage done. Like Hubminator says I got out and went and watched our first team but that was pretty much just bravado - I went downhill fast when I got home.

So now a three week stand down, what will I do with my weekends? Just as well my wife is due with our first anyday

Glad to hear your doing well.  The layoffs unfortunate but really good timing. you'll be busy.  My wife has just had our second and doesn't seem to enjoy the football season as much as i do

So, predictions for this weekend? League table has really tightened up with the last few weeks results so a lot of movement could be seen in the table after tomorrow's games. We (Marist) have our return fixture vs Olympic and will be looking to hit back after losing our round 1 game to them in the last fifteen minutes after being 2-1 up. Should be a good match with Olympic having some good results recently...welcome to (hopefully) the Kilbirnie Bobbledrome!

Miramar 0 Tawa 3.  Possibly the worst wind I have ever played in.  Both sides battled well....good clean game in extremely difficult circumstances.  Massive kudos to Miramar captain Jason Wells who convinced the ref to downgrade a red card for one of the Tawa lads to a yellow.  Well played Wellsy.

Anyone seen next weeks draw anywhere?

From today Tawa won 5-3 over the Uni Gossies. 4-0 at HT. Uni battled hard & gave us a scare 2nd half.

I see that the other teams at the top of the league also had wins.

Nice and tight at the midway stage.  Hopefully University can get something from United in their catch-up game tomorrow to keep things close at the top.  Superb defensive record by United though.

it was a heck of the game. We (Uni) had the wind advantage in the 1st half but didn't kill the game as we should have. Dreamers played well too but perhaps weren't expecting such a hard game. We were the first to be surprised at how well we started the game. in the second half things got a bit heated, but I saw no malice in any tackle. It was just that both teams really wanted it. They pulled one back with maybe 20' to go, with a bloody good header. The delivery was perfect and I DO NOT KNOW how their striker converted it, it was a real beauty I must admit.

All in all it was an enjoyable game. Perhaps the ref suffered a bit as he was being shouted at from both sides, but in fairness he did not have a good game. Two examples: he book Brady from Utd after one of us basically rugby-tackled him and then signalled an off-side (against us) that was a real joke. On the positive side, he was quite bossy and managed to keep the game under control.

Great results this weekend, with University beating Wgtn Utd 2-1 (second time in 5 days believe it or not) and the Gossies drawing 4-4 at home vs Olympic. That was an epic game. Olympic took the lead twice, and twice we drew. Then we went in front twice, and twice they caught up with us.

Our keeper did well, but in a couple of occasions we were REALLY lucky not to concede, when the ball slipped out of his hands and hit the bar. Also, their no.7 (I think) took a magnificent free kick from just outside the box, but the bar denied him the joy of scoring a cracker. All in all, if we count how many chances Olympic had, they could have won it.

That being said though, we did our part, and played a counter-attacking game which allowed us to score on a couple of breakthroughs.

I'm not the biggest fan of Olympic [for reasons i'm not going to explain here], but yesterday the lads have behaved well and a big thanks to them for hanging out at our clubrooms for a long time after the game ended.

I hope University can play as well as they did against us and pull something out of the hat against Miramar that would tighten the league right up. However i can imgine if they don't have shaggy at the back they will be leaking goals

yeah mattie got a hattrick, true as well, but some of the guys said that Tawa scored 3 goals in the first 15-20 minutes of the game and there was a rumor that it might have been a hattrick.

It's going to be a real hard game vs Miramar, they are an old but skillfull team, I played them and watched them 2-3 times already (between 1st team and Gossies) and their only weakness seems to be their age. Let's hope they'll have a bad day, but in all honesty they will be favourites.

good to see the Gossies beat Marist in a highly entertaining game..

Even though we (Marist) came out second best in a five goal thriller, I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Full credit to your supporters, who really backed their team and provided some quality banter.

Well done Gossies, you played some decent passing footy and deserved to win - good luck for the rest of the season.

thanks mate, I tell you something..I think it was a great game and the Gossies deserved the points in the end, but had your 2nd goal come a little bit earlier, you guys might have snatched a draw. You were attacking a lot and had numbers up front for a good 10' at the end of the game. The biggest problem of all Uni teams is that we are likely to loose our shape and coolness whenever we concede a goal. I have seen many a game being ruined just because we conceded in the first 20'..

But anyway, I enjoyed watching the game and yeah the banter was class. Thanks for coming up to the clubrooms, loved what your speech-man was wearing too (A jersey with "Marist AFC" written in green...), I'm gonna try and get us some gear like that for next year!

well since I have too big a choice there I might just go and trial for the Nix! maybe I could make the youth team? 26 isn't too bad, just look at Italy's average age at the confed cup!! :D

Matt Wilson got another hattrick vs Marist on Sat (Uni 4 - 0 Marist), and by the looks of it he and that Gary Romijin are competing for who scores the most hattricks!
The Gossies lost 3-1 to Miramar and from what I heard Miramar went 3-0 up in the first 10', so pretty much game over.

We are playing Miramar this weekend in what is a season defining game for us. It's win or nothing really. I have seen Miramar play a few times this year and for me they're the best team in the league. They always help each other out and really work as a unit. We have a few injuries/people going away this weekend so we're gonna have to try out best to get a result.
