Be fantastic for the league, and football in New Zealand if they got there.

Sounds like they've got a few ex-semi-professionals in there, who may know how to deal with Wellington United's youngsters.

Would be an excellent reward for Ian McGrath for a number of seasons of real hard work raising their standards, as well as for the committee who seem to have done a great job lifting them back up from Western Premiership obscurity. Mid-table obscurity at that.

It'd be a shame to have Wellington United spend another season in Capital Premier, especially if Lower Hutt don't pull finger and improve - but definitely better than putting Team Taranaki through another season of thrashing Feilding, Marist Reserves, and Red Sox Social Club.

Football. All things considered.

You'd hope the Phoenix/Wellington United relationship could endure one more year of trying to get promoted (and assumedly attaining that)

I couldn't see Havelock North or Palmerston North End beating them the next year...and could see them beating Lower Hutt (if they stay the same)

But like I've said earlier it seems like Team Taranaki and Wellington United (and probably Waterside Karori by the sound of it) would beat both Tawa and Lower Hutt, this year.

I'm not an afficionado of Taranaki football, but all indications are they have "imported" a bunch of players to "lift the standard" and get promoted.

That is all temporary, money-spending, rubbish. And not to be encouraged.

Having Team Naki back in the league would add significantly to the cost of participation. If that is for the greater benefit of some mercenaries then I can't see how football's best interests are served.

Geographic spread of teams is not of any benefit to anyone per se. It's only valuable if it affords opportunity to local players capable of playing at that level. Team Taranaki have shown over a long period of time not to have that talent base. Unless they've achieved promotion off the back of predominantly local players then having them in the league is going to be detrimental to "football" overall.

When you factor in the Weenix that becomes worse. That is a team chock full of talented young players withing cooeee of a professional contract. Football's interests would be much better served by them playing in the top league.

What do Team Taranaki bring to the party do you think that means that their promotion should be considered "important" or "valuable"?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

smiths reasoning >> mastys. Not sure you would get out your violin for an import packed team that can qualify easily from a pretty poor league. Sounds like they will be a challenge for whoever end up playing them.

I think (think) they have 3, maybe four 'foreigners'. Will check that and get back to you.

Bulk is 'local talent'.

I'd hope one trip to Taranaki a year wouldn't kill a club.

I want them both there! Relegate Tawa AND Lower Hutt!

But I'm saying Team Taranaki (with three good imports - about the same amount most Central League teams have?) 2016, Wellington United with Phoenix having stuck by their side 2017.

I guess what I'm campaigning for is the highest level possible to be available to as many regions as we can.

Taranaki and Gisborne being the obvious 'victims' in New Zealand Football - our talented youth HAVE to move (/play for someone else) to even be seen.

It might be a similar situation in Invercargill...I remember them trying something - not sure if it still exists?

I'm not sure whether Gisborne will ever get the chance to bring a few willing imports in to help us out (we need it) - but it's hardly glamorous so good on the ones that do!

I like it how in the CL Regs for playoffs it has an added rule that 'away goal rule applies' yet it gives no definition of it.

Didn't know it was taken out.   The away goals rule was there when Steve and I wrote the regs for the playoffs.   The best part of it was that the "Manager" would have the last say in most things.   Self serving but stopped a lot of arguments.

How do you think Wairarapa United was formed.   Has moved away from that principal a bit these days.

Was at Miramar v Olympic 1st half Saturday. Good footy but bloody chilly so thought I'd hit the bar for a dram or 3 and maybe a natter. But I couldn't.  'Only members and guests allowed'.  Any reason why Mar don't want my money? Why the exclusivity? Doesn't happen elsewhere far as I know (except at Cambridge when ACFC are in town).

PS I left and got warm - but missed another 5 goals!

I reckon you should ask the club. They are likely to know and be able to answer your question at least as well as the YFF.

Call them or email them. Be polite. There might be a really good reason... like the licensing laws, perhaps? I know that at the yacht club you can only be in the licensed premisis if you are either a memeber or signed in by one. Signing guests in is not onerous...

Might be a licensing issue. As in theirs may have lapsed.

Most clubs have reciprocal rights with other clubs members so license shouldn't be an issue.

I remember Upper Hutt having a sign in book last season which I found odd. My guess is it's the DLC trying to justify their existence once again.

Well every Auckland club that I've been to which has a bar lets me buy a drink without signing anything, whether they know me or not. The only issue I've ever had was at Bay Olympic on an Easter Sunday.

I think, technically, they can't just let anyone in for a drink. Of course many [if not most do] but it all turns to custard occasionally when the local liquor licensing coppers  do a crackdown and things are run very tightly. Some of our RSA type clubs here got done a few years ago and things were tightened up to fudge. Napier RSA won't let you buy a drink without being a member still. big fines if the locals have it in for them and they are caught.

Maybe things are a just a bit looser up here in jafatown but I'm pretty sure Northern League clubs know what the law is regarding liquor sales and stay onside.

Another example (as well as Bay Olympic enforcing membership regs on Easter Sunday as above) was Western Springs not serving alcohol at the ACFC Easter tournament, despite having a well-stocked bar, "because the tournament was for juniors" they told me. But as I said, for years at every game otherwise I've been to across the league the bars have always been open to all-comers. When WaiBop hosted ACFC at Cambridge last year and denied access to their clubhouse bar, they at least laid on an extra beer tent - much appreciated as the day was about 30 plus.

The sign came about after people found it was a great viewing point and they ended up with too many on the balcony. The sign is totally due to the weight limit of the balcony. To access the bar ask at top of stairs if you can get a drink and then take your plastic cup back down with you. You will notice the acro props under the balcony so it does not have to be removed before funds for upgrade are found.

I attended a game at DF park last year, Miramar v Upper Hutt and noticed many spectators on the balcony. Good on Miramar for thinking of  safety and no doubt they had an engineer's report carried out.

The Upper Hutt balcony has been very  well built with heaps of reinforcement.

Ah! Cheers. Reasonable. Good to know. Best of luck with funds.

Tonight under lights at Wakefield. - Olympic 1 (Haidakis) Stop Out 0.

As someone said of Stop Out tonight 'they couldn't buy a goal'....  all the more surprising after our last outing.  Such is football... I guess.

Besim will be happy (mostly).

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.
