well i think the reporter got it wrong as rugby might be his preferred subject.

i assume the shield that was probably intended to be mentioned was the o'brien shield.

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

Did Phil not support Wairaraa Bush as well for a long time?

The 2011 success of United in the country's premier men's knockout competition, the Chatham Cup, will always be a standout in Keinzley's list of successes in the coaching sphere and he also recalls with fondness the season where they earned promotion to the Central League and won the Hilton Petone Cup and Swindale Shield along the way.

Um....

Last time I played against them, the team was big enough.

My first senior game of football involved being knocked out cold by a giant Wairarapa CB. This when they were still in Capital 1. Fun times.

Highlight of the Mar game was Flem hitting the crossbar on the volley from a corner. I love that shit.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phil Patterson back at CB for Upper Hutt. Did not make a lot of difference though going down 0-3 to Wests.

Would've been great goal.
Mar's first goal was stunning. 2nd was a great pass for the assist. And 3rd, Olympics defence parted as mar player beat 4 players before a few nice passes set up the goal.
Quality stuff from Miramar.

Allegedly

All 3 goals were quality at this level. Van Elia was also getting the shit kicked out of him with no mercy from the referee.

Wasn't there a blatant straight red in the second half that should have been given?

Interesting results. Mar played Most of the game with 10 men against Upper Hutt. 4 goals in the last 10 minutes to go from 4-2 to 6-4

Tawa rolling PNM probably sees them safe for another year.

Heard Jono Steele got a straight Red card for PNM vs tawa today. Does that mean he misses 2 games? and does that include Chatham cup next weekend? great result for tawa away aswell.

I am sure AJ will have a detailed report.
I was at the game. Wests deserved to win, but probably not by that margin. NCR missed a penalty (crossbar), and a couple 1-on-1s.
Wests were more clinical in front of the goal and pretty much converted all their chances.
A rather entertaining game, fast pace , goals, yellows. NCR are a good team, certainly deserve to be in the top 4.

Mid season Olympic, Napier and Wairarapa tightly grouped. West will be cursing the 3 points they gave away 1st round. Petone with a game in hand have everything to play for.

I watched the Wests v Napier game no doubt Wests deserved to win but in my opinion was a poor game of football between 2 of the better CL sides. First half both teams seemed happy to kick each other rather than the ball, second half did improve abit. No sure how many yellows were issued, but both teams possibly lucky to finish with 11 players.

Does Mcyntire still coach Lower Hutt? Must be some pressure on him

Don't think so. He does a pretty solid job and brings through club youngsters to the first team without spending up large on imports. Haven't heard any suggestion that he's under pressure?

Actually I did hear rumor on Saturday that club is unhappy with him. Two players were rumour to have walked out the weekend before their Chatham Cup game against Stokes Valley, one of them hasn't returned. (believe it was their captain too)
Now that his coaching style (swearing at people) isn't getting results, I don't think he job is as solid as before.

I'm positive things will go wrong.

I don't understand this argument. Do you honestly think a competitive central league side could be be built from the current crop of wairarapa based players? I don't. Certainly not a title winning side. The best players who are actually living in wairarapa are all hovering around Cap 2/3 ... It's the reality of wairarapa football, it's just not as strong as Wellington. I think what you need to do is look at the bigger picture here, PKs trying to grow the game to an elite level over there, and once it's there the younger locals will grow into it and move through the ranks.

I'm off to watch Wests / Wairarapa now. Cracker day for it over here in Whitby, can't wait to see this.

I do agree with your statements, but how did Wairarapa really get from the lower levels of Cap Fed into Central League? With a lot more than 1 or 2 locals.

They built themselves up, and gradually got better and better and as you have stated, they had to bring in players to sustain that level. More credit to the team that keeps together and gets where they are going, or at least tries, than one that is full of players that line their pockets. Again, it's Phils prerogative to spend his own money and good on him for the interest of veiwing, but what happens when that disappears.....

we played them which I think wad their first yeah in Prem in about 2003 when they had Cossey, Nobby Stiles, a bit lump from Akld, and another import who I can't remember. We played them first game of the season at Hellena Pk and won. They did pretty average - and then went down the Island route which got them to CL. Speering has been about the only constant local I think

edit: Heath Dickinson or something was the other one

i remember that game, cossey broke his leg

they got well beaten for most of the season and by the end of the season there was a lot of hate in that team

Rapa keeper conceded a shocker for the second against Mar on Saturday. Beaten at his near post from near the edge of the penalty area about 1 metre from the goal line.

Maybe they were just on the ouzo after Greece won and did it as a joke. When they sober up tomorrow they'll realise they've had a shocker.
