1st sending off was a joke , Stu as well . Ref told assistant coach to sit down , all Stu said was give us a fair go John and he sent him off without any warning. Arrogance

Implying that the ref is not giving a team a fair go, is clearly dissent, and doing it a few seconds after a warning is not very smart.

So just to ask again what Chris asked, why was the sending a joke? You keep repeating it but don't give details why.

As for Stu getting sent, pretty stuipd to comment to the referee after he has just given your bench a warning whether it was directed at the Assistant Coach or the whole bench. He did say to Stu that he is responsible for the Assistant and then Stu decided to comment again

I think we should have a ref's/specators/fans for justice flashmob outside Sir Breadwins tomorrow lunchtime.

Did you watch the video before writing this?

The referee actually said to Stu "don't say fairness again or you're gone" and then as the ref walked away Stu basically said "fairness fairness fairness and no returnsies". And lo and behold he got a shower.

Sending off Dylan Wood was a correct (and very good given everything going on) decision.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Watch the video make up your own mind . In my view seeing it live and having watched the video , there wasn't enough contact to justify a straight red card.

That's the whole point of DOGSO though! It can be a foul that wouldn't even warrant a yellow card elsewhere on the field, but due to denying the goal scoring opportunity, it becomes a red!

Genuinely suggest you read the laws of the game before embarrassing yourself further.

As per the LOTG, DOGSO doesn't have to be something that would otherwise be punishable by a card.

  • Denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the opponents’ goal by an offence punishable by a free kick

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences:

  • holds an opponent

How much contact doesn't come into the laws. The fact that the referee got the call spot on is actually pretty amazing when most wouldn't have applied the above correctly.

I have Read the DOGSO why don't you print the whole law , it's complex ??

...and at least six referees (including two national league referees - three if you count the former one assessing the game) who have read it, understood it and applied it have all agreed it was the right call.

Not sure if this is a deliberate and concerted campaign of obstinacy to blur the point that homophobic abuse was shouted at a teenage player.

Ok so you feel the sending off is a joke. You haven’t actually said WHY it’s a joke so we can get on the same page. I gave the courtesy of a polite reply to your opinion but anyone can say that’s shark without quantifying it. Engage in the conversation man!

I think I do a decent job of making myself accessible to queries when there is a lot of criticism that we referees close ranks and take care of our own with no accountability. I have no issue talking to people about decisions I have have stuffed up (subjective opinion) because I love the game and what I do within that and want to get more people informed. I strongly believe in debating the decision and not the personalities involved but to give a response my 5yo could give actually makes me understand even more why referees don’t want questions cause if this is the standard of questioning I think i’d rather be accused of being arrogant than play Q and A with this.

First time I've seen this law applied ever?? But that's what's great about this forum we can agree to disagree? . Other refs have told me they would of given a yellow card in that situation? So there we go!

How many of those other refs were John Serepisos? ;-)

I think it is fair to say many would not spot the dogso, but once you do, there is no choice but red.

Why?  Is it now a secret who is a referee?

It was clearly a light-hearted statement about a firmly Olympic man who has gone out of his way to pick up a whistle and help the game.

This. But shall we move on? Leftfield has taken a beating and, deserved or not, it's getting a bit bitchy (I'm look at you, Baiter).

Huuuuuuuuuuuuge game for Olympic in two weeks against Lower Hutt. How does it work with the sendings off and suspensions with respect to the Chatty Cup this weekend? I can never remember.

Intense few pages dudes. About a flipping ref decision! LOL. Bigger picture is, as someone said, club officials need to have a word to the old fart supporters about their language. Bigger picture still might be why Olympic are having the season that they are.

More important than that is surely that one of the best football projects in nz, if not the best, is in your own backyard; and they just put 5 past a central galacticos semi pro team to go 4 points clear. This team has a Chatham cup game v petone this weekend, who were lucky to escape with a draw v Wests RESERVES last weekend. Is TAB running a book on the chatty? Or banned by NZF decision recently?

Also, not strictly this thread but given current success of ole/wests, here will do: how many FSE/weenix players are on pro contracts now? Fenton, rufer, ridenton, Watson, Mcgarry, Rogerson, Singh, Sail (is that list correct?).  Is it still too early to start evaluating the weenix academy's progress?

Kotahitanga. We are one.

Really Global game , your more worried about a couple of supporters on the bank , rather than the low budget the Nix have in place signing youth players . ???

Well this makes it easy, but what's the rule anyway? Say Wairarapa had Taylor Hall Jones sent off against Wests (just to pick one random and totally fictional scenario...?).

Suspensions from the league carry over to the Chatham Cup should their team still be in it

no it isnt a secret
.  But they have every right not be associated wih this discussion if they have not expressed an opinion or to have it implied what they may have done in a similar situation. Yes it may have been meant to be lighthearted  but this thread became quickly nothing of the sort. And also great that John has chosen to referee.

Here the full West's v Rapa game.

The penalty that was somewhat controversial on twitter is at 1:10:48

The 'not red' yellow card is at 1:26:02; hard to see on the recording as the camera tracks.

Speaking of the bigger picture. I reckon Capital Football and Central Football should make it a requirement of entry into Central League that teams video their matches. A bunch of teams already do it - notably Olympic and Western Suburbs - but I think it should be mandatory.

I believe this has been a rule as low as high school rugby for years now? Mainly for use in policing fights but I completely agree with you.

Relying on it opens up a can of worms though. Did X club delete footage? Block sound? Purposely not film something? etc etc.
