interesting. tawa lose at home. R Steel get on the scoresheet for two clubs. Henders knocks in a couple. Kapiti's goal by an unkown not enough to stop a spanking. And Karori and Mar couldnt finish a cup of tea.

good win first up in the season for us, we should have really banged in a couple more in the game but did what we had to in the end, highlight was western suburbs player of the day having to take a soft drink instead of a pint. monkeyboy2009-04-04 20:09:45

Not quite, as the West's coach put it.

"Sorry half our team aren't here, they had to go home so mum could put them to bed"

when you play wests reserves at home most of them go home.   Sometimes, there is no after match speeches or acknowledgements.  Every other club there is atmosphere afterwards, even food put on by some clubs.  Hosting and after match functions are an oimportant part of competitive sport, be it rugby, hockey or football.  The raffles go around and you buy a ticket to help raise some money for the club, the oposition guy you wacked on the field you have a chat with in the clubhoue and wish him luck for the season, you enjoy and laugh at the speeches to hear how the lower teams had fared that day, teams that contain ex first team players, teams that still support thier first team and club...

Sport is not just about trainig and the match, if it is why do all these clubs have clubroms, bars and all of the above?

I think Cap Prem will be a lot better when Wests get relegated.  Lets get a real club in there, one that has spirit, one that will play the same guys every week and not stack there team to survive.  I am not oppossed to 2nd teams being in CP, Mar and Hutt understand the club philiosophy...

You see my middle finger sticking up on the left?  That is at Cap Football for allowing Wests to play on Sundays and for the club itself..

JohnnyCash you make an awesome point, that's precisely why I love the club I'm with because of the great spirit and community we have just makes it feel like you belong there.

However the Wests coach did talk about how they are trying to encourage their younger generation not to be part of the drinking that goes on after game as they are trying to get these young guys onto bigger and better things they do not want them to be involved in that. About half of their team stayed behind which was good, better than no-one, I will be interested to see how it is when we go out there in the second half of the season though.

Cash, just because you love a pint after the game doesn't mean everyone does or has to.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

If they were really wanting to get these young kids into bigger and better things, wouldn't they have a better coach than Calcott??  He has just inherited what Stu Jacobs set up.

My comments are not about alcohol, they are about comunity spirit, socialising and the values of athleticism.  It is the same as the clubs in europa, they still have aftermatch functions there and the alcohol is not an issue or an optio for most of the players...

I understand what your saying, unfortunately in NZ drinking is a large part of aftermatch functions. Wests obviously have made there own choice about it and the end of the day if they want to run things that way its up to them.

Anyway, we're going down a completely different lane here. Any one else from other teams got anything to comment on about their weekends result?

Upper Hutt showed a lot of character to get a point in fairly windy conditions at Bell Park - came back 3 times to get a draw with pretty much the last kick of the ball. A normal derby match with heaps of "feeling" and a sending off for Upper Hutt. Matty (English lad, unsure of last name - Upper Hutt) scored an absolute screamer to make it 2-2, contender for goal of the season. Porteous onto a good thing with that group of players.

Final Score 3-3.

1. yeah monkeyboy thats the fella, helluva nice guy - his 1st goal was a kind of Di Canio jumping volley but from 25yds on the angle, left peg - didnt see his 2nd goal (to get the draw) as i'd been dragged by that stage.

2. why the constant bagging of linesman on here? we should be thankful we hve them. Granted they don't always get it right but i'd rather have a semi-dodgy lino than a referee callin offsides from 40 yards away, its all "swings and roundabouts" - these guys DO NOT get paid for what they do bobbyb, the are VOLUNTEERS.

3. anyone know anything about Miramars reserves?
