I assume you mean don't only say Waitemata...

Waitemata
Manurewa
Onehunga Sports
Birkenhead United

Palmerston North Marist

Coastal Spirit

Roslyn Wakari

Without knowing too much about teams in the Northern or Southern leagues, I've eliminated teams who I think will be strong whether we play them home or away. From the list above I would fancy our chances at home, and maybe pinch a win away. I think any other away win is a huge upset and a home game only slightly improves our chances. But then again, considering our form lately and the fact it is the cup - anything can happen - especially at home.

Your putting far too much football logic into this, the important factor is the piss trip potential.

Based on that criteria, a trip to Dunedin would be cool

Well you're not wrong, the cup is a different priority and more of a bonus to enjoy but Salmon wanted my expert opinion - which is what he got, clearly!

A home game is ideal for the club in more ways than one though.

good piss: bar takings.
bad piss: how many powerade bottles the boys can fill between dunedin and here. TopLeft072011-06-20 17:02:49

Chatham Cup rules From NZS are as follows , see document below

COMPETITION FORMAT

4.1 All teams that have entered this competition shall compete on a knockout basis until two

teams remain unbeaten.

4.2 NZF shall set the dates on which the successive rounds of the competition will be held, or the

day by which one or more rounds must be completed. Games must be played on the dates

specified unless otherwise approved NZF or its nominee.

4.3 The draw for the rounds involving 32 and 16 teams (Rounds 3 and 4) shall so far is practicable

have due regard for the costs of travel for participating teams, and desirability of promoting

matches of such importance throughout New Zealand in order to maximise local and

community involvement. For clarity the practical application of this regulation means that

teams from within District Federations 1, 2 and 3 could be drawn against each other, as could

teams from Federations 3 and 4, 4 and 5 and 6 and 7.

Ha.  I never knew that.  So there's no national round until the quarter finals.  Shame.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Isn't the important word in those regs 'could'.  Doesn't say it will happen.

Clause 4.4 is far more clear about what will happen this arvo !!

See below Chatham Cup rules from NZ Football

Rule 4.4 is more clearer

4.3 The draw for the rounds involving 32 and 16 teams (Rounds 3 and 4) shall so far is practicable

have due regard for the costs of travel for participating teams, and desirability of promoting

matches of such importance throughout New Zealand in order to maximise local and

community involvement. For clarity the practical application of this regulation means that

teams from within District Federations 1, 2 and 3 could be drawn against each other, as could

teams from Federations 3 and 4, 4 and 5 and 6 and 7.

4.4 The competition will become an open draw from the quarter final stage with teams being

required to travel, at their cost, throughout New Zealand.

Makes you wonder why they say it will go national at the Round of 16 every year, and also why people believe it.

Three for me, and two for them.

Time will tell I guess  ?? NZF have no idea whats going on with their rules , as per usual rules say one thing and they do another.

You got a link to the document Roy?  The one one the NZF website is from 2008 so would think it is a tad out of date.

No link as it's a work computer , but rules are identical in new version from 28.03.11 , If you are involved in a club , they were sent a copy by NZF at start of April ??

Clause 4.4 is alot clearer than 4.3 , as noted in above posts ??

Because when Glading and Patel toured the Federations last year they asked the clubs what they wanted. Most supported a full national round from the round of 16 which NZF went with. Looks like NZF have now gone cold on the idea as clubs start to protest the cost as reality hits in. Some clubs could go broke playing 4 away games through to the final. Cup would look great in a trophy cabinet made from a Persil box!Ronaldoknow2011-06-21 11:53:39

Not sure 4.4 changes much.  All it says is quarters are definately open. 4.3 still says that the round of 16 could be regional.

True, but it also says Round 4 will be drawn with practicality in relation to costs of travel and the importance of local matches. No point sending Waitemata to Welly or Chch on their own accord if they can't afford it.

Three for me, and two for them.

I guess the reality is the cost for the clubs ?? , mind you , if you read the rules it says , if you pull out after the draw is made your club will be hit with a 10 K fine , with a fine like that you may as well play the game and then have a think about what you want to do next round ??

Guess it depends on how and when they decide the practicality of it.

Miles just said on Radio Sport that it will be a National draw so an Auckland team could end up travelling to Christchurch...we shall see.ThreeFourThree2011-06-21 12:49:47

yeah miles has confirmed this repeatadly including to a request by a Dn Tech club person but is bizzare as to why clubs would recieve this which was earlier posted here.

have attached above for your information the 2011 Chatham Cup regulations which were forwarded by NZ Football late last week. The announcement of the National Open draw on Radio Sport when the round 3 draw was done may have caused some confusion about the next round games. I draw your attention to clause 4.3 (highlighted in yellow) which indicates the R3 & R4 will involve teams within Footballsouth & Mainland Federations (6 & 7). I hope this clarifies this for you. Can teams please ensure that full results (half time, full time, extra time, goal scorers) are texted to 027 7111025 as soon as possible after the game. Also, please forward completed original (white copy) of Match Information by Tuesday/Wednesday. Many thanks and good luck to all teams involved

Either way someone has made a monumnental cockup.

4.4 does help.  It puts 4.3 in context.

Also could does not equal might.  You're reading something into it that isn't really there.

The intention is relatively clear.  Again though, terribly drafted regulations make for confusion.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
