Not to metion the 12 Northern (auckland) teams getting a free pass through to round two. If theres an even amount of teams with byes why not just have six more games?

Anyone NOT travelling to Bishop Park Wembley to watch the Naked Mole Rats play Wilson United is a mug.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

the cup isnt about the travel though - sure its an added bonus for teams that are good enough to get to that stage but there are plenty more factors to take into than just having a great trip away - and i cant argue the fact that away trips bring together a team and great booze trips.

funny ive played chatham cup against eastbourne - even scored to knock them out, a win in the chatham cup was more important than worrying about getting pissed on the road trip back. went on to lose to petone (who were in premier league at that stage)

the factors for not travling 1st round far outway the benefits or reasons for wanting to travel first round. im sure  wellington teams such as wellington collge, eastbourne, douglas villa, bnu love the fact for 1 weekend they get the oppoturnity (if the random draw is kind)  to play great teams such as tawas, petones, island bays, miramars, olympics, uniteds. theres no better pleasure in playing olympic in the 1st round as an absoulte minnow and losing 13-1.

I don't think Western Suburbs are going to score 14 goals. Eastbourne are not that rubbish.

Just got back from Masterton and a cracking game at the Sports Bowl.....with Rapa having all the early running then Wharfies slowly getting themsleves into the game and equalizing early in the 2nd half.

A great 2 periods of extra time and the MIGHTY Wharfies winning on penalties thanks to two fine saves from Fulcher in goal (and Adam Cowan smacking his against the top right corner) and some well taken Karori pens by Crump, McKinlay and Robbie Hunter.

Nice one Buffon, apart from Matamata being an above average side your comments will look great blown up and on the walls in the clubrooms.

Will those comments still look great blown up on the clubroom walls?

Above average

Three for me, and two for them.

Would of been a good game for the spectators at Hutt Park yesterday, Stop Out went up three nil after about 30 minutes. Two well taken goals first one from Abass after a deflected shot from CM Regan? Second a nicely hit half volley from Regan again off a corner that managed to go through everyone of our defenders and the third a very wind affected corner that went straight in. We managed to peg one back about five minutes before half time with Benji beating his marker on the 18yard box and placing away nicely to be 3-1 down at the break.

We came out with nothing to lose and proved this for after about 10 minutes El Capitano Si Hall squeezed through a couple of defenders near the end line and squared across nicely for Tea to slot away into an empty net 3-2. Rest of the half was a very tense affair for both teams, Naenae trying to press forward to search for the equaliser and at the same time trying to contain SO on the counter attack. Good end to end play would of make for great viewing. Ref managed to control the game well until SO's CB got a bit niggly with our CF, got a verbal warning the first time, but second time was a tad more in the refs eye and was shown a red card. Was a tad miffed when a foul went against us our CM got kicked in the face and the ref gave the foul against us said "for his head being too low" ????!? Definitely had me lost on that one.

Should be a good rematch next weekend, we will be back to full strength and will make for a very interesting game.

I went and watched this game, it might have been a better game if Lower Hutt were average, I thought they were poor a best and Olympic were average. For two of the so called better sides from Wgtn the standard of Football was poor!

Well deserved win to Olympic. Lower Hutt lucky that Olympic finishing was so poor in the first half or it would have been the thrashing that NVH suggested it would be.

I think it was Eastbourne 0 - West 9 but I may be wrong.

Eastbourne did Ok considering, it was so windy and the pitch so small even wests had trouble keeping the ball on the pitch sometimes.

Good luck on the old guy at the back for Eastbourne, he was surely older than even me, half my height and half my speed, maybe I should move up 10 divisions if thats Cap 4.

Having said that, I have no desire to test myself againts Wests first team as an over 50 thanks very much.

Wests got some great goals, but Eastbournes keeper saved less then the Mormons on a bad day.

10-0 final score. Highlight being Jacob Gleeson complaining to the referee that Eastbourne moved the ball a couple of yards forward from where their free kick should have been taken. After Wests were already 8-0 up.

Lower Hutt were sh*t. Plain and simple.

Didnt show up to play, but then again we did scuff a couple of chances to go up 2 by halftime as well.

Good win, none the less, bring on the next rigged fixture. Miramar anyone?

I wouldnt say the quality of football was poor. I would say the finishing was poor without a doubt thats all. Great result however for Olympic.

Miramar beat Island Bay yesterday didnt they by 4 nil or something..

Chatham Cup: Sunday leaguers win first round ties

May 17, 2009

AUCKLAND - Auckland's O'Carrolls FC will join fellow Sunday Leaguers Bohemian Celtic in the second round of the 82nd Chatham Cup after beating Taupo 3-1 in their first round tie at Bill McKinley Park on Sunday.

O'Carrolls rocked Taupo - unbeaten in the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Federation League - with two first half strikes and extended their lead to 3-0 after an hour before the visitors grabbed a late consolation goal five minutes from time.

They will join Bohemian Celtic in the second round on June 1 after Celtic returned from Northland with a 3-1 win over FC Whangarei on Saturday.

In other Sunday fixtures, Mainland Premier League club Nelson Suburbs found four second half goals to beat Richmond 4-0, and Nelson City prevailed 4-2 over Nelson United in another local derby.

Northern League division one side Ellerslie needed extra time to see off the challenge of Ngongtaha - a side two divisions below them at the bottom of the Waikato-Bay of Plenty division two table - before finally edging out to a 4-2 win.

In Wellington, seven different Western Suburbs players found the back the net as the three time winners overpowered lowly Eastbourne with 10 unanswered goals

On Saturday, Northland local league side Kerikeri thumped Waitemata City - who play in the second tier of United Soccer1's federation-wide league - 4-1, while Waikato-Bay of Plenty Division Two outfit Te Puke, upset division one Otorohanga 3-1.

The first round's only penalty shootout was also won by the underdogs with Wellington Premier League's Waterside-Karori beating Central League side Wairarapa United 4-1 on spot kicks after 120 minutes of football finished with the two sides locked at 1-1.

With only four remaining first round ties to be played next weekend in the FootballSouth region, the draw for the second round will be made this week.

Magnificent effort from Smithy on Dewhurst's show tonight. Central region sides getting a very easy ride.

Here are some stats by the way.

27 Capital Football Federations sides entered the Chatham cup, 7 were Central League sides. No CF sides had byes in Round 1.
12 Central Federation sides entered the Chatham Cup, 1 was a Central League side (Only Napier City Rovers that I can find - no Palmy North Marist and no Team Taranaki). Byes for Round 1 were granted to Maycenvale, Motoroa, Napier City, Taradale and Western.

Both Federations have 8 teams playing in Round 2 (this will be the first game for Napier City Rovers, while two CF Central League sides have already been knocked out).

I believe the draw remains local (ie a central and CF draw) for Round 2, meaning that both Central and CF regions will have 4 sides each through to Round 3, where I believe they come together. So Napier get pretty much free pass into Round 3, while Wellington Central League and Cap Prem sides have been feeding on themselves for two rounds already.

That is baloney!

As for the travel argument, the Northern region (ie Taupo north, which is quite a lot of geography, is drawn together from Round 1)
